Lester Kiewit speaks to listener Seymour about his family's recent experience, and then to Gina Woodburn, CEO of DHL Cape Town Stadium, about the arrangements one needs to make beforehand with event organisers. Do you like running fast, jumping hurdles or competing in family fun and fitness?.... Yeah, we don't either, but if you think you are fast and you want to talk about the proverbial "great white whale" of the NES (ironically he lost his leg and we are talking about a running game...Ahab lost the leg, Mike and Jay are talking games) then you are in luck. Buckle up it's a wild ride, this episode is packed with collecting, stories of the chase, math lessons and rants.... Did we find a copy of Stadium Events? You will have to listen to find out. Thank you for listening. We appreciate you all!

There is something to the power of gatherings. All throughout human history they have been used to mark lives, impart ideology and even help set the course of a generation. Examples include Woodstock the 1969 gathering which drew 400,000 and became a defining event for a generation, the Promise Keepers' Gatherings of the late nineties whose attendance reached an estimated eight hundred thousand and impacted families worldwide, the Billy Graham events of the forties, fifties and beyond, which saw countless thousands give their lives to Christ — and we could go on. There is something electric and transformational that can happen in these types of events. This is why this particular show is so exciting! Here with us are three Canadians, representing different organizations, who all have a vision for mass gatherings for the purpose of outreach, prayer, reconciliation, and spiritual renewal in our nation. Tyrelle Smith hosted the Come Together event in Saskatoon, SK, attracting thousands the first week of June and seeing (saw) hundreds come to Christ.Solomon Davis is planning the God Heal Our Land event scheduled for July 1st in Hamilton Ontario at the Tigercats Stadium where the Tiger Cats play.Art Lucier from the Battle For Canada will also be sharing about their upcoming event, Prepare The Way, in Quebec City. These conversations are both inspiring and eye-opening.____________________________Faytene.tv is a listener-supported program. The Work in Sports Podcast - Insider Advice for Sports Careers
Getting the right experience early in your sports industry career is critical to establishing yourself to future employers, and minor league sports is one of the best places to do so. Minor league organizations run on lean staffs and budgets but are expected to put on a major-league quality sporting event regardless. Those expectations lead to staff members wearing many hats and fulfilling various roles (ticket sales, marketing, fan engagement, media relations, and broadcasting) throughout each season. That versatile experience is why minor league sports should be part of everyone's sports internship strategy.Today's guest on the WorkInSports Podcast is Greg Kigar, Lansing Lugnuts' Assistant General Manager for Stadium Events and Operations. Kigar has spent nearly three decades working in minor league and college sports and has also taught aspiring sports professionals as an adjunct professor. Throughout his career managing stadiums and facilities, he has supervised hundreds of workers at countless sporting events and observed the traits of those who reach their career goals and those who fizzle out of the industry early. He and VP of Content and Engaged Learning Brian Clapp discuss:• What a typical game night looks like in Minor League Baseball stadium operations• How Kigar identifies and develops talent for minor league sports jobs• How MiLB helps MLB evolve, and how else baseball can modernize itselfEnjoy the full episode to learn more about Kigar's experiences and who he looks for when hiring his staff each season. Its a busy week of events at Highmark Stadium and Donny Tomasulo takes us through what is bringing concert goers to the shows this week.
We're talking about the games the prevent people from completing their sets or even the games that prevent people from trying to collect a set to begin with. From bona fide checklist-ruiners like Stadium Events to fuzzier games in other sets, we're determining what's worth complaining about and what isn't.
If you've ever been to a sporting event, you've probably held your breath, closed your eyes, and had the shared human experience of using a porta potty. But behind this unglamorous, stomach-turning necessity are the companies and people responsible for supplying and cleaning them, especially on NFL gamedays. Ryan Hockensmith traveled to Orchard Park for a Buffalo Bills game and tailgate, and went behind-the-scenes with a sanitation company on a typical Sunday. He shares his reporting with us, and takes us inside the industry: the sights, sounds, smells, and sucks of porta potties.
Greg Kigar joins the show to talk about what he's up to this offseason, being an adjunct professor, his lack of beer pouring skills, a pregame situation probably like no other, and a lot more!
Join us as we head to Huntsville, Alabama! Our guest today is Chelsie Bingham, Manager, Stadium Events at the Rocket City Trash Pandas. Chelsie is a Barcelona '17 Living Sport Alum, and she embodies everything that we preach here at Living Sport. You'll learn how and why Chelsie took an opportunity in sales and earned a full-time gig in another department. If Chelsie didn't get out of her comfort zone to try sales, she would never be in the spot she is today! We'll chat about working for the Trash Pandas, and how every step along the way in her career lead to this opportunity, the importance of sales experience in developing young professionals in this industry, and how the Living Sport family has shaped her personal and professional career.
Warning: Listening discretion is advised. We hold a serious discussion about the first truly controversial arcade game - Death Race. What led Exidy to release this death simulator upon an unsuspecting public? How did something so outrageously graphic make its way into the American arcade? Who was responsible for shining a bright light on this dark subject? Along the way we do cover some less serious topics like how to properly ship arcade parts, the rarity of Stadium Events, Roger Corman films, the use of Pooneh Ghoddoosi as a safe word, and “Je suis la jeune fille!”

The holiest of NES holy grails arrives this week: Stadium Events by Human Entertainment and Bandai. This game is worth relatively little in its European release, and has almost zero value in its reissued "World Class Track Meet" version. But stumble across the original U.S. release and you've basically paid for your retirement. Special thanks to Steve Lin for allowing me to include actual photography of this rarity here. For contrast, the backup feature: Winter Games, a complete botch job of the PC sports classic by Epyx. It has no intrinsic value, either as a game or as a collector's item.

The idea for this episode was to talk about some bad games that have little intrinsic value, but some amount of cachet in the collecting world, basically terrible games that collectors buy for *reasons*. You know, like Stadium Events. But we all kind of interpreted this episode in a different way, so some of us might be talking about questionably "bad" games... such as good games. Fixed 10 seconds of missing audio!

On this game show-ish episode, Johnny is asking Tyler and Stephan opinion-based questions and he's going to judge which answer he likes more. We'll have to justify our opinions on CIB vs loose collecting and perhaps even NWC vs. Stadium Events. Johnny says it's like the show Around the Horn which I (Tyler) have never heard of, so you'll have to take his word on that one.

We're talking with Deniz Kahn, the President of Wata Games, about certification, grading, and where the collector's market for video games may be headed. If you're not about encapsulating your games and think they're only meant to be played, we're still talking about Wata's educational efforts like their recent comprehensive NES black box guide, and tackling the classic issues like NWC vs Stadium Events. This episode is super long so I bet we also got an iam8bit Mega Man jab in there somewhere. Also you can use coupon code "collectorsquest" for 10% off on a Wata submission. No, we don't get money from that, we just think it's cool. And we'll probably use it ourselves.

Dear Diary,Well, it happened again. For financial reasons, I’m forced to once again choose between my two greatest needs; either I can buy Final Fantasy XIII or I can pay rent. Why does this always happen to me? Maybe it’s because I only make $200 a week fetching snacks for George Broussard, but hey, at least I’m working in the industry. Maybe I shouldn’t spend all $200 a week on games and gaming accoutrement, but come on, how am I supposed to not buy games? That $100 super collector’s version of God of War III isn’t going to buy itself, you know! I have to buy it. WITH REAL MONEY. I guess I’ll go sell plasma again. That’s got to be worth at least the cost of a strategy guide! I’d try prostitution, but that didn’t work out so well last time. Oh, that reminds me, I TOTALLY got Trisha’s number! Now I just have to buy a phone and then I can call her!Eric is mysteriously absent this week. Perhaps he was abducted by dingos? I hear that’s happening a lot these days. At any rate, the other three “hosts” yak it up about the cost of gaming. Did you know that Spencer spent approximately 6.2 million dollars on games last year?
