You know what time it is! It's bracket time folks! Ron's in the house and he decided to surprise us with a topic neither Rob nor myself knew of. So, to our delight and surprise, we got a battle of legends from the found footage world. That's right. It's Winnebago Man vs. Fred the Carver. No bells being rung by those names? No worries, you'll soon fall in love. But that's not all, of course. We also discuss George Lucas's absurd grudge, McDonalds mascots, and Happy Gilmore 2. Rob also issues one of his patented reviews of the 1993 cult classic Surf Ninjas. All that, and a bag of chips, here in The Nostalgia Pit.PATREON EXCLUSIVE: We get a Limited Recall slash navel gaze as Colin looks into some of his old musical endeavors. We also look into pink cocaine, laugh tracks, and Eastbound & Down outtakes. In this episode, we ride the wave of 90s nostalgia with Surf Ninjas—a martial arts comedy that's equal parts absurd and awesome. Join The Dale, Cea, and Twan as we break down the tale of two brothers, ancient prophecies, and the power of Sega Game Gear. Listen in as we debate whether it is a hidden gem of the ninja craze or a wipeout.
We interrupt our April break to bring you a brand new episode... from the past! Dun dun dunnnn... Yes, while we're on the road, we're opening the Matt and Mark vault to give you an episode that most of you have never heard before, and trust us, it's a doozy! Strap in for wild Retro Reviews of ALTERED STATES from 1980 and SURF NINJAS from 1993. We even squeeze in some MADAME WEB talk. Why? Why the hell not. What ridiculous caveman scene made Matt giddy? Why do we love Surf Ninjas so much? And will Maxim Magazine get us in trouble? hey, remember Maxim Magazine?! Probably not, but we talk about it like two giggly old men anyway. Keep your eyes on this space as we might unveil one more surprise ep for you while we're on break. Miss you all! Wanna be on the show? Call us and leave a voicemail at (707) 948-6707. The name says it all.. Ninjas ninjaing on the surf. It tells the story of Ernie Reyes Jr's early life, his search for his origins, and his clairvoyant brother's struggle with dyslexia. Its a fun one with a young Rob Schneider and a 20-something Tone Loc battling wits. High kicks and high laughs highlight this coming of age. Listen, won't you?
Rob Schneider and Leslie Nielsen? What a dream duo.

Ninja Christmas 2023 kicks off with the Say Reporters celebrating the 30th anniversary of New Line Cinema's "Surf Ninjas." Will this ninja odyssey hold up against the memories of a child or have standards changed over these past three decades.
Quansu dudes! This week, the crew are checking the 1993 kids-action-comedy Surf Ninjas!Could this be the most DIVISIVE movie ever discussed on the podcast?!?Don't forget to rate, review and subscribe wherever you're listening!
DoA forces Monte to watch a forgotten kids' movie from 1993, the terrible and hilarious Surf Ninjas. Clearly attempting to capitalize on the martial arts craze arising from Karate Kid and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the film contains notable actors Leslie Nielsen and Rob Schneider in some of their most forgettable roles. Surf Ninjas attempts to shoehorn product placement for its own video game on the SEGA Game Gear portable video game system, using the novel approach of having the video game be used as a tool for prophecy. While completely ridiculous, Surf Ninjas does provide some accidental big laughs and can be viewed as a time capsule for terrible 90's cinema.
Katie and Bridget yell "Kwantsu dudes!" as they re-watch the movie: Surf Ninjas! It's a nostalgic family favorite that features two things the 90's loved: ninjas and surfing. Come along as we meet Johnny and Adam, two brothers who discover that they're the long lost princes of a place called Patusan - NOT the place with the porta potties! They get thrust into a wild adventure all under the watchful eye of Snacks/Stacks/Snatch/Zach/Zatch: their secret uncle, who has no qualms about blowing up entire houses for no reason or sinking rescue boats! Along the way they bring their friend Iggy, who can't surf or do ninja stuff but can make jokes; Johnny's future wife Ro-May, who very quickly is like LOL I OBJECT TO THIS ARRANGED MARRIAGE; and of course... Tone Loc, a cop who just decides to tag along because why the heck not! We've got destiny nonsense, Game Gears, punching through windows, and Leslie Nielsen - what more could you want!? Released in 1993 (#thebestyearformovies), it stars Ernie Reyes Jr., Ernie Reyes Sr., Rob Schneider, Tone Loc, and Leslie Nielsen.
In this episode, the guys remember everything that happened in the movie Surf Ninjas. Discussions include Game Gears, Mechanical Men, and Kwansuing dudes! The What We Remember Podcast stars Bradley Jones, Andy Moldenhauer, and Andy Hubert. They try to recall what happened in movies they haven't seen in a very long time. And now, back to our regularly scheduled "Summer Surprise" programming. Travel back with us to the early nineties, a time when the world was still ninja-crazy, Leslie Nielsen's star-power was so on the rise that even a few minutes of screen-time seemed like it might boost a movie, and when Hollywood was ready to see if this Rob Schneider guy from SNL could maybe cross over into movies. Clearly designed by New Line Cinema to capitalize on their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles success, and meant as a star vehicle for a unique father-son martial arts team, the family action-comedy Surf Ninjas is admirable for its mostly Asian cast...still a rarity today, and almost unheard of from studio movies in 1993.
