Let's talk flops, turns, and rivers, but more than that a story of a guy trapped between his past and future, and the decisions he has to make to shape the rest of his life. Rounders arrived in 1999, right after Matt Damon's Oscar win for Good Will Hunting. Did Rounders launch the Texas Hold Em revolution, perhaps ahead of its time. A stellar cast and strong themes of friendship, for better, and worse. Plus who doesn't love John Malkovich eating OREOs with a bad Russian accent? Thanks for listening to our movie podcast, please tell your friends, and always remember to be kind, rewind, relax, and enjoy the show!
On Monday's Morning Focus, Alan spoke about a sport that rarely, if ever, gains any coverage! Rounders is one of the four official GAA sports included in the original GAA charter back in 1884 along with Gaelic Football, Hurling and Handball. However, despite it being included in the original GAA charter, Rounders hasn't gained as much in popularity or coverage as the other three sports. To discuss this further, Alan Morrisey was joined by Michael Sheahan, Development officer for GAA Rounders in Munster.

On the exciting conclusion of May of Damon, we are discussing a cult classic that helped launch the poker boom of the early 2000s, inspired millions of dudes to think they could turn $100 into a Vegas bankroll, and gave us the most unhinged Oreo-eating villain of all time. John is joined by the world's most celebrated data nerd, polling aggregator, and election forecaster, Nate Silver, to discuss the 2024 election. Nate offers unnervingly precise takes on just how close the race is (it won't calm your nerves a bit); Kamala Harris's likelihood of winning each of the battleground states; the thesis advanced in the New York Times that the GOP's advantage in the Electoral College is shrinking; whether the polling industry has cured what ailed it in 2016 and 2020; the “contingency plans” you should be making ahead of November 5; having so many people displace their election-related anxieties directly on to him. He also talks about his new bestselling book, On The Edge: The Art of Risking Everything, his relationship with Peter Thiel, his poker addiction, and why the movies Rounders and Moneyball are, well, everything.
