In this episode of CORNDOWN, descriptions run wild as we dive into describing men and vehicles, with wastedmemory and I leading the way. There's bizarre incidents of battery-eating that escalates quickly, alongside some accusatory fingering and Dwight’s room garden situation. Things get even more intense with drinking motor oil, shredding documents, and an unusual pizza style order. Hootis, Mailman, and newcomer Hi jump in on topics from Wendy's mishaps to odd pubic hairs, with frivolous complaints rounding things off. Katie and Bridget yell "Kwantsu dudes!" as they re-watch the movie: Surf Ninjas! It's a nostalgic family favorite that features two things the 90's loved: ninjas and surfing. Come along as we meet Johnny and Adam, two brothers who discover that they're the long lost princes of a place called Patusan - NOT the place with the porta potties! They get thrust into a wild adventure all under the watchful eye of Snacks/Stacks/Snatch/Zach/Zatch: their secret uncle, who has no qualms about blowing up entire houses for no reason or sinking rescue boats! Along the way they bring their friend Iggy, who can't surf or do ninja stuff but can make jokes; Johnny's future wife Ro-May, who very quickly is like LOL I OBJECT TO THIS ARRANGED MARRIAGE; and of course... Tone Loc, a cop who just decides to tag along because why the heck not! We've got destiny nonsense, Game Gears, punching through windows, and Leslie Nielsen - what more could you want!? Released in 1993 (#thebestyearformovies), it stars Ernie Reyes Jr., Ernie Reyes Sr., Rob Schneider, Tone Loc, and Leslie Nielsen.

“At the end of the day if you don't have hope, you have nothing.” – Ernie Reyes Jr.My guest this episode is Ernie Reyes Jr., a martial artist, actor, and fighter.  He is known for his work in films like The Last Dragon, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Surf Ninjas, and the Rundown starring alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.  I first remember being wowed by Ernie as he burst on to the television screen in the 80's tv series Side Kicks.  At the age of 6 he joined his father's famous West Coast Demo Team, he would also go on to a 3-0 professional Kick Boxing record in Strike Force.  He is a father, a stuntman, and action film maker. This episode is filled with inspiration, wisdom, and the artistic expression of martial arts in film and in life.  My key takeaway is that we must value the gift of life and live it to its fullest.  We dive deep into Ernie's battle with Kidney failure and how it transformed his life.  Martial Arts gives us the ability to face challenges on and off the matts.  Ernie describes how he used his martial arts training to stay mentally focused, make himself comfortable in uncomfortable situations, and operate from a hope driven mindset as he went through the process of kidney failure, to dialysis, to receiving a kidney transplant, and to making a healthy recovery.  We also discuss his friendship and training relationship with the Diaz brothers, what makes great fight scenes, and what it takes to be a good teacher and a great martial artist.Ernie has been a true inspiration to many, first sparking the martial arts interest for generations of kids and adults, and now showcasing the power of the arts, and how to keep hope in the face of darkness.  Tune in this is a great episode with a Martial Arts Cultural Icon.

We love Spielberg, we love aliens and fedoras. How could this go wrong? On this episode Paul & Chris are joined by their better halves, Tina and Colette. So does the film hold up to the lego game? That’s the big question. Can you use Square Cash to transfer money between Canada and the US? Hmm. Nope. Crystal Skull came out in 2008. BoxOfficeMojo lists it as 3rd for the year, below The Dark Knight and Iron Man. This film is actually above Wall-E and Twilight. WHA? The biggest film shot in Hawaii since another film we reviewed, Waterworld. Of course, hands down the best Hawaii film we’ve watched is Hard Ticket to Hawaii. This is not the Mitchell-Hedges skull, yo! It’s like ALIEN! For your entertainment, real-time searches of the The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Sean Patrick Flanery and River Phoenix on air. Such wow! Are we watching American Graffiti? Between all of Chris’ coughing, Indiana Jones jumps the shark in a stolen Tardis. Paul educates us on the history of nuclear weapons testing. The only movie star who has talked to us is in this film! We’re super excited to know Ernie Reyes Jr. is on our screen. Ants dislike Cate Blanchett. Always do your CG in the dark. Don’t do it in the light, Golden Compass. Just stop. It’s a quiet group on the podcast because the movie isn’t that awful. One exception: them Shia Labeouf scenes like the Shia-monkey. Our take overall, this is an entertaining film. As an Indiana Jones film it is bad. Thanks to our biggest patrons, our wives for joining us again. For more of Tina and Colette check out Harem Scarum. Cowabunga! It's a turtle triple feature as Lyndsey gets radical with her VHS selections, picking the 1990 smash hit Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and its sequels, 1991's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze and 1992's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III. Talking points: A triple feature. The comics, cartoon, and movies. The original film. Pizza party at Pizza Hut. Cartoons on VHS. The Foot as an allegory. Leonardo, Michelangelo, Corey Feldman as Donatello, and Josh Pais as Raphael. Rapid turnover in cast. A gritty first installment that feels like a reboot. Casey Jones. A violent and fully realized world. Secret of the Ooze. The BK Kids Club. Suburban Commando. Stepkids. Ernie Reyes Jr. These turtles look different. Paige Turco replaces Judith Hoag as April O’Neil. Out of the shell and on Oprah Winfrey. What does Splinter eat? Tokka and Rahzar fill in for Bebop and Rocksteady. Everything is toned down. Go Ninja by Vanilla Ice. Missed opportunity with the anti-mutagen. The third film. Army of Darkness. The soundtrack. A Hanes commercial. Surf Ninjas. All Effects Company takes over from Jim Henson, turning Splinter into a dog puppet. Oregon fills in for feudal Japan. Time travel. Romeo and Juliet subplot. Jokes for adults. A demon gives CPR. No pizza or consequences. Human-turtle relationships. Lame villains. A double role for Elias Koteas. Favorite turtles over the years. Buy it/rent it/tape over it for the series. Other adaptations of TMNT. Turtle nostrils. An American Werewolf in London.

Listener favorite Arden returns with more kung fu! He joins Chris and their fellow movie buff Geraldine on a special episode recorded during the summer break. While Paul slumbered in his hyperbaric chamber, the 3 intrepid friends attempted to sit through a Chuck Norris film, The Octagon. Arden gives a shoutout to star & martial artist Ernie Reyes Jr. who joined our chat room in a previous episode. Should we watch The Big Brawl some time? Chris & Geraldine recently went Turkey Shoot to watch Snakes on a Plane. A very bad film featuring Farrah Fawcett and disgustingly old Kirk Douglas as lovers in space? Ew, just ew, Saturn 3. The Octagon also came out the same year as Xanadu. What’s exactly going on in this film? Arden wonders if we’re watching Naked Lunch. Geraldine is pretty sure that Chuck Norris wrote the Wikipedia page for The Octagon. Master of picking up ladies, the character A.J. is played by Canadian actor Art Hindle. Chuck’s fighting style lacks, style. “I hit you. You fall down now.” Chris is missing Jet Li. Oh hey! Look it’s The Master, Lee Van Cleef! And there’s a very brief Ernie Hudson. It’s Seikura, not Shakira, Chris. What a great character actor, Tracey Walter. Seikura’s main bro is like an imperial royal guard from Star Wars. Ninja ranking in the film seems to be based on flair? By this rationale, Liberace is a grand master. It’s like an episode of America’s Funniest Home Videos, all Chuck does is hit people in the privates. Look out! Shakira has Kusarigama! Arden wants to watch Caveman. Chris watched Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films and wants to see Invasion U.S.A.. Arden recommends The Delta Force and Geraldine says listeners should check out Barbarella. It was a lot of fun to get together in the same room, watch the film and record the show. Though, we missed Paul’s trademark hilarity! Be sure to check out one of Arden’s projects, Prairie Noodle Shop. When the restaurant is complete it will be worth the trip to Edmonton. Trust us! More ninja movies! The post-production company Big Boss Creative wanted to break into the lucrative direct-to-DVD racket, so they asked distributors what they wanted to sell. Their questions were answered with the mixed bag of “ninjas,” “post-apocalypse,” “zombies,” and “The Warriors,” so they slapped all of those ideas together into an 82 page script, added some cheap After Effects CGI, and made Ninja Apocalypse. Starring some stunt men who were available in the greater Los Angeles Metropolitan area, as well as Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Electra, Showdown in Little Tokyo), and Ernie Reyes Jr. (Surf Ninjas, Ninja Turtles II). Cage (Christian Oliver) is the leader of the lost ninja clan and goes to a peace summit with his best warriors for some reason to help unite the clans. When the ninja leader (Tagawa) is killed at the summit, Cage is falsely accused to the murder and all the clans hope to catch him before he escapes. On his way to the surface he and his clan mates fight ninjas, zombies, reptile men, and sexy lady ninjas for their freedom. They also have cool blue fire kicks and energy blasts.

For the final show of the season Arden and another kung fu film! Though, Paul will argue that it’s not a kung fu movie, but a terribly long 80s music video. Previously, he brought us Revengeofthe.ninja. We learn that M.A.S.K., Mask and The Mask are all different films and television shows. Chris is fascinated with Berry Gordy’s Wikipedia page. The Last Dragon is ranked number 33 for the year in 1985 and look at the movies below it. Clue, Weird Science and more. There’s a Road House play? Get your fan site on because you need the glow. The villain is played by the late Julius Carry, who is simply amazing. Lots of recognizable faces in this film, William H. Macy, Rudy from the Cosby Show, Chazz Palminteri and this guy who is in every mobster film. Vanity’s 7th Heaven is…well, watch at your own risk. Not one, but two songs in this film were nominated for a Razzie. Arden compares Vanity’s dance in the 7th Heaven video to Prancercise. An actor from the film, Ernie Reyes Jr. shows up in the chat room during our live stream of this episode. Chris recounts the experience here. Chris is frustrated because he can’t find the Suki Yaki Hot Saki Sue song anywhere for purchase. Paul blows the minds of the others when he points out that Leroy’s master is just regurgitating fortune cookie wisdom throughout the entire film. Hey! He’s right. Ernie Reyes tells us from the chat room that his dad Ernie Reyes Sr. was one of the baddies in the club fight scene near the end. Who’s Leroy’s dentist? He does great work. As we wind the recap down, Ernie Reyes Jr. shares a great insight from being on the set during the final scene in the movie. Have a listen, we can’t spoil it here. We discuss 80’s music vs. boy bands and Arden dares Paul to watch Breakin and Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo.
