Journalist Peter Finney Jr. joins Louisiana Life Executive Editor Errol Laborde and podcast producer Kelly Massicot to talk about his new book, “Drago's: An American Journey.” It is a compelling story about the Civitanovich family that migrated from Croatia after World War II and the eventual evolution of a great seafood restaurant, Drago's, best known for its signature dish Charbroiled Oysters. One of the founder's sons would be known for the dish; the other son would become an emergency medicine specialist and is coroner of Jefferson Parish. It is a story of hard work, ambition and the American dream that started across the ocean. ...If you ever have a chance, try the oysters.

On today's episode author Kevin Winkler returns for the second part of our discussion of his fascinating new book, On Bette Midler — An Opinionated Guide. If you missed part one of this conversation, you may want to catch up with that before listening to this one. In that episode, Kevin and I touched on Bette's childhood, explored her early years in the off-off-Broadway experimental and very campy Gay theater scene, detailed her unusual rise to at least demi-stardom at the Continental Baths, her debut on Broadway in Fiddler On The Roof, and her Tony Award wining concert at the Palace Theater which set the stage for the first of what Kevin calls her Broadway musicals of her own devising: Bette Midler's Clams On The Halfshell Revue, conceived and staged by Broadway director/choreographer Joe Layton, and the shows that followed. For more than twenty years Kevin Winkler was a curator, archivist, and administrator at the New York Public Library, and prior to that, he was a professional dancer. His previous books include the award-winning Big Deal: Bob Fosse and Dance in the American Musical in 2018, and Everything is Choreography: The Musical Theatre of Tommy Tune. Kevin and I discussed that terrific book on several episodes of Broadway Nation back at the beginning of 2022. Become a PATRON of Broadway Nation! We had an absolute blast recording this episode. Please leave us reviews!!!! Please follow us on social media! Go to SaturdayMorningDads.biz for links to everything. those reviews are so important. Saturday Morning Dads is Sean and Curtis talking about kid's movies. Do they love them? No not particularly but they were spending too much time at the office talking about random straight-to-Netflix kids' movies so, they figured they might as well start a podcast. New episodes come out almost every other week so make sure to subscribe. Instagram: saturdaymorningdads

David will be in town for an oyster-filled weekend the second weekend in September The first event will be held Friday, September 8 at 7pm at Northtown Books and the second event (featuring oysters!) will be on Sunday, September 10th at 4pm at Wrangletown Cider in Arcata.
