Regular on The Greg Gutfeld Show, standup comedian Joe Devito sits down with Brad Szollose to talk about the business of comedy, his best gigs and his worst, the next generation of comedians, cancel culture, and dating after 50. About Joe Devito: Whether taking on relationships, his Italian-American family, or current events, Joe DeVito's dead-on timing, unexpected twists and sheer flights of lunacy make him a favorite at clubs and colleges across the USA, and at the top venues in New York City. After spending a decade as a journalist and advertising writer, Joe gave into his coworker's demands to try performing so he could find fame, while they finally got some work done. Since then he's appeared on television more than 150 times, including Comedy Central, The Late Late Show (CBS), Last Comic Standing (NBC), AXS-tv's Gotham Comedy Live, Comics Unleashed, E! Network, CNN, Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, and more. He's also been a regular panelist on FOX News Channel's Red Eye, Kennedy, and The Greg Gutfeld Show, discussing current events with a satirical bent. As a writer, Joe has contributed to Maxim Magazine, MTV, and the award-winning film Super Size Me. In 2006, he was invited to the prestigious Just for Laughs Festival in Canada, where the Montreal Gazette rated his performance "9.5 out of 10.” Joe's debut album “First Date with Joe DeVito” is in regular rotation on Spotify and Sirius XM satellite radio. I first read about the N.E.R.D. project in something like Maxim Magazine back in college around 2001. Very quickly, the UK version was on file-sharing sites (Napster, LimeWire, Kazaa), and I snapped it up. Ironically, there was no way to know the actual tracklisting, so I made a mix CD with the order that I liked. This was the OG beats version that was never released in America and remains my preferred version. In 2002, with what must be one of my first-ever purchases on Amazon, I actually managed to buy the OG UK version on CD so that I could have WAV files of this amazing debut album, though I quickly burned a CD with the order I was used to from my sketchy mp3's. N.E.R.D.'s second album, Fly or Die, was actually really good, but at the time, I was sorta turned off by the band instrumentation on a N.E.R.D. album and didn't keep up with them much after that. This needed to be sorted out, so I've gone through their discography for a mixtape. I've used some of my beats versions of In Search of... songs as well as the officially available versions with full instrumentation because, with fresh ears, some of them actually kinda slap. You be the judge. One thing I realized while pulling this tape together is that Fly or Die was actually freaking amazing. I love the Steely Dan-esque moments, and really, the only thing I can knock it for is being a little short. Definitely an admirable follow-up to their goat debut masterpiece, In Search of... My guest today is Jason Feifer. Jason is the opposite of a one trick pony. He's a multi-hyphenate: Editor-in-Chief of Entrepreneur magazine, podcast host, book author, keynote speaker, startup advisor, and my personal favourite: non-stop optimism machine. In this episode, we are going to learn about Jason's journey to, I know this is going to sound cliché and click-bait-y… embracing change. Because as much as we all know it's important to understand and accept change, not a lot of us like it, let alone thrive in change. Fret not, Jason is here to show us how. We cover a LOT during this conversation, such as:- Jason's career pre-Entrepreneur Media. In fact, we talk about his study choices during college and whether it was obvious to him from an early age that he was meant to be a journalist. - How Jason pitched dozens of magazines and how one landed at Washington Post- Jason's time at small and large media houses: Men's Health, Fast Company, Maxim Magazine etc. and whether there's one position that massively influenced how he shows up in the world today - Of course, we talk about about Entrepreneur magazine. What was the company like back in 2015? How did Jason get hired there and what helped him get from Executive Editor to Editor in Chief in a very short time (one year)?- I geek out with Jason on a couple of chapters of his book to simplify the takeaways for you, whether you want to grow your career or company, or both. - Jason has met with and interviewed so many famous people Jason: Ryan Reynolds, Gary Vaynerchuk, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jimmy Fallon, etc. Which interview went surprisingly different from what he expected and what did he learn from the experience? - Jason's advice for someone who's in a career transition and how to best make the most of the situation, while being practical and aware of the day to day needs.Subscribe to Jason's newsletter: http://onethingbetter.email/Get Jason's book: https://www.jasonfeifer.com/book/ Follow Jason on Social Media:Jason on LinkedInJason on Instagram----------------------------------------------Liked this episode? Too many people are stuck in the past: old ideas, old technologies, and old ways of living. When we don't embrace change, we don't grow or evolve. Accepting change and using it to fuel our growth is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves in every area of our lives. But how can we resist our natural inkling toward predictability and become comfortable with change? To answer that question, Hala invited Jason Feifer, a champion of change, onto Young and Profiting podcast. Jason is the editor-in-chief of Entrepreneur magazine. He hosts two podcasts that focus on how to take hold of change and use it to your advantage. He's also the author of the newly released book, Build For Tomorrow, which outlines how to use the power of change to your advantage using wisdom from some of the brightest minds in the world. In this episode of YAP, Hala and Jason talk about how entrepreneurial thinking differs from the rest of the population, and how embracing entrepreneurial thinking can help you find more opportunities that you wouldn't otherwise have seen, even if you're not an entrepreneur. They explain how to stack your skills in order to open new doors for yourself, why we resist change, and how humanity has resisted change throughout history. He also explains how we can use failure as data and view new situations as temporary experiments rather than permanent commitments. Topics Include: - How well do you really know your audience? - Why Jason renamed one of his podcasts - Opportunity Set B - Parkinson's Law - Seeing loss as opportunity - Viewing opportunities as temporary experiments - Defining traits of an entrepreneur - Using failure as data - The truth about time management - The 1907 Teddy bear crisis - Jason's actionable advice for becoming more profitable - And other topics… Jason Feifer is the Editor in chief of Entrepreneur Magazine and champion of change. He has led an extensive career as a journalist, working at publications such as Fast Company, Men's Health, and Maxim Magazine. He hosts two podcasts: Build For Tomorrow and Problem Solver. Earlier this year, he released a book called Build For Tomorrow that outlines how humanity has rejected and embraced change over time. His goal is to help you become more resilient and adaptable in a world of constant change — so you can seize new opportunities before anyone else does! Mo Amir (This is Vancolour) joins the show and brings a little local Vancouver flavour to the podcast, as he gets blocked by a local Member of Parliament despite them never interacting, even after the block when Mo tried to sort it out through official channels. It's a great look into what it means to host a local politics-focused TV show, and how even our government can get down in the muck with us Twitter weirdos. We start out away from our familiar medium by getting into TikTok and paring down our algorithms, and move from there into our favourite older technology: Maxim Magazine. We also chat about casino bands, we get a listener update on Every Buddy's, John's dad gets into Young Sheldon, we read Ryan Giggs' love poems, and Stefan introduces us to Real or Fake: Peep This Out edition. If you wanna peep some more content out, head on over to patreon.com/blockedparty, where $5/month gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every single month. Last week, our Sex and the City series continued with listener Molly, and this week, it's the triumphant return of SECRET PARTY, the special bonus episodes where we read your listener secrets. Check it out! Mo Amir is the host of This is Vancolour, a TV show on CHEK-TV here in British Columbia, and a podcast available wherever you get your pods. You can follow him on Twitter at @vancolour. Anjelah Johnson-Reyes is currently one of the most successful stand-up comics touring today, selling out theaters and clubs across the country. Well, not today, because global pandemic, but today-adjacent. Maxim Magazine hailed the comedian and actress as “uproariously funny” (weird they didn't write “unapologetically sexy,” but okay), and Time Out Chicago described her shows as “filled with almost non-stop laughter.”Anjelah, born and raised in San Jose and of Mexican and Native American descent, has guest starred on shows such as Superstore, The Shield, Ugly Betty, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and About a Boy. She has also appeared in such films as Enough Said, Our Family Wedding, and Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, as well as voicing a role in The Book of Life. After a stint as a professional cheerleader for the Oakland Raiders, Anjelah became an Internet sensation with her viral video, “Nail Salon.” That same year she joined the cast of MADtv as a series regular, which spawned another Internet sensation, “Bon Qui Qui.” This original character, a disgruntled fast food employee with no filter, has been viewed by over 85 million people worldwide. Comedian Rob Little from The Best Damn Sports Show, Drybar Comedy, Maxim Magazine and Budweiser's Man of the Year goes big with host Sadie Katz. PART ONE Rob LITTLE: Rob Little's outlook on life can be summed-up in two words: Pure Optimism. The ability to see things in a positive light has served him well. While working in a lucrative position as a computer programmer for IBM, he sent out an ALL-company e-mail that read, "If you aren't happy here, quit your job and follow your dream." IBM promptly gave him his walking papers, which was a blessing for Rob and comedy lovers nationwide. Last Comic Standing on NBC agreed and named him “The Happiest Comic in America”. A sketch comedy player on the Fox Sports Net Show, "The Best Damn Sports Show Period" and Comedy Central's “Nick Swardson's Pretend Time”. Little uses his training from the world famous Second City Improv Comedy Club to create routines that are inventive, funny, spontaneous, and completely unique. Having established himself as one of the peak performers in Clubs, Colleges, Cruises, and Corporates within the Country, it's easy to understand why the Detroit Free press selected him as the “Best up and Coming Comedian,” Campus Activities Magazine named him “College Comedian of the Year,” Carnival Cruise line named him “Top Cruise Line Comedian,” and Maxim Magazine along with Budweiser named him the “Real Man of Comedy”.

My guest today is the lovely & hilarious model and actress, Jamie Leigh Thornton. Recently she packed up her life as a student at University of Kentucky to pursue a career in LA as a model & social media influencer. Since then, she's been featured in Maxim Magazine and Sports Illustrated, and has amassed over 155k followers on Instagram. Many people assume this career path is simply fueled by looks, but Jamie's outgoing personality, humor and atypical body type really separate her from all the other pretty faces out there. During our conversation, we talked about how she makes money on Instagram, dealing with brands and sponsors, hanging out with celebrities, what her friends and family back home think about her newfound success, what really goes on in her Instagram DM's, and of course she answered the question she gets asked by strangers every single day, "Are they real?" Make sure to follow her on Instagram: @JamieThornton If you would like to support the podcast, please rate 5 stars and review on iTunes. Music by Calvin Kraakevik
