Dennis Swanberg, an encouraging speaker, comedian, and humorist, served the local church in pastoral ministry for 23 years. Then, in 1995 Dennis took a leap of faith when he stepped down as church pastor and stepped up to the microphone on stages and platforms all across America and the World. “The Swan” soon became “AMERICA'S MINISTER OF ENCOURAGEMENT”, a job he takes seriously as he continues to speak to about 150 organizations, faith-based groups and corporations every year. He has hosted two successful TV series, authored 9 books, and created over two dozen DVD/CD productions. Dennis is a graduate of Baylor University where he majored in both Greek and Religion (1976). He earned both a Master of Divinity (1980) and a Doctor of Ministry (1986) at Southwestern Seminary, Ft. Worth, TX.
On today's edition of Family Talk, Christian comedian Dennis Swanberg says that many men are lonely and they struggle with regret and secret fears. Proverbs 27:17 declares, As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. That's why all Christian men need to resist the temptation to isolate, and should find a trustworthy accountability partner. Swanberg points to the biblical examples of Paul and Luke as well as Silas and Timothy. When men confess their sins in transparency to God and to one another, they can be healed. Abstract: Parkinsons disease (PD) is a heterogeneous disorder characterized by intraneuronal inclusions of alpha-synuclein (-Syn), a strong neuroinflammatory component and neurodegeneration. Human genetic association studies have shown that variants affecting quantity and quality of major histocompatibility complex II (MHCII) have implications in PD susceptibility and it was recently shown that PD patients have -Syn specific T lymphocytes in circulation. The class II transactivator (Ciita) is the major regulator of MHCII expression and reduced Ciita expression has been shown to increase -Syn induced neurodegeneration and pathology in vivo. Here we show, using flow cytometry in an -Syn overexpression model combined with -Syn pre-formed fibrils (PFF), that congenic rats with naturally occurring differences in Ciita expression have altered local and peripheral immune populations. Lower Ciita levels are associated with increased percentages of microglia and circulating myeloid cells being MHCII+ but with lower levels of MHCII on individual cells. Additionally, lower Ciita levels was associated to higher TNF levels in serum, trends of higher CD86 levels in circulating myeloid population and a lower CD4/CD8 T lymphocyte ratio. Taken together, these results indicate that Ciita regulates serum TNF levels and baseline immune populations which could mediate an increased susceptibility to PD-like pathology. The mix is an electro selection of underground and other less obscure tracks. Not all are rarities. What was once underground eventually comes to the surface as in the well-known Deep House classic Deja Vu by DJ Larry Heard or other House Classics A Naked Theme by Joey Negro and Lost Illusions by Shazz. Underground is the scene where Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti - Chris & Casey - have been in many parts of their music career which started with Throwing Gristle. Their production Exotica is a catchy dance electro-pop tune. Another great tune is by the late J. Dilla from his experimental EP “Ruff Draft” (warning of explicit lyrics). Return to the Underground mix also features Dilla's friend and producer Madlib in his experimental electro hip hop Jazz band, Yesterday New Quintet. Music gems such as Trompetas al Anochecer by electro hip-hop band from Barcelona, Barnabasstars or the Hippie Session 2069 by the Venezuelan duet of Masseratti 2 LTS. De Phazz is a nu-jazz and downtempo from Germany whose contribution in this selection Depression Royale adds soul to the mix. Bogdan Irkük a.k.a Bulgari is a Rare Avis artist in the dance music world. His real name Måns Swanberg is a Swedish designer, illustrator and animator who has masterly translated his visual concepts into unique music production. We cannot forget the eponymous track that gives name to the mix. Aybee is the alias of Armon Bazile a recording artist who has forged an eclectic music career from the turn of the millennium as dj, producer and artist in its own genre. Bazile takes various musical sources for his productions and with those he assembles his electro rhythms that transport you to a profound mystical experience on the dance floor. Music 1- Return to Underground - AYBEE 2- Take Advantage - FREESTYLEMAN 3- Deja Vu (Remix)- LARRY HEARD 4- The laws of Physics - BOGDAN IRKÜK a.k.a. BULGARI 5- Exotica - CHRIS & COSEY 6- Depression Royale - DE PHAZZ 7- A Naked Theme (Source Mix I) - JOEY NEGRO 8- From the other - FRED P 9- Lost Illusions - SHAZZ 10- Dice Game - YESTERDAY NEW QUINTET 11- Crushing' (Yeeeeaah!) - J DILLA 12- Hippie Session 2069 - MASSERATTI 2 LTS 13- Trompetas al Anochecer - BARNABASSTARS

Comedian, speaker, and author Dr. Dennis Swanberg joins us! Not only does he bring a large dose of comedy, but also a powerful message about planting shade trees that you may never sit under (and leaving a meaningful legacy in the process).
According to Dr. Dobson, "an inheritance is something you leave to someone, while a legacy is something you instill in someone." On today's edition of Family Talk, speaker and comedian Dennis Swanberg delights an audience through his memories with his family. As he reflects on the humorous moments with his parents and grandparents, Swanberg explains that the spiritual legacy they left him was like someone planting a shade tree. When Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, he couldn't envision New York City's skyline, and when the Wright brothers built the first plane, they couldn't envision a 747. They planted "shade trees" for future generations to enjoy. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1091/29

Recently there's been a dramatic shift in the American workforce: The “Great Resignation.” “The Big Quit.” In one year, more than 47 millions of people left their jobs. The majority were women. “It is horrible for our economy when millions of women exit the labor force,” says economist Michelle Holder, CEO of the Washington Center for Equitable Growth. While men have regained nearly all the jobs they lost since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we're still missing 2 million women. So where have all the women gone? So where have all the women gone? We'll hear Holder's insights, as well as the stories of two working women whose thriving careers were turned upside down by the rigidity — and sexism — built into the American workplace. Guests Kari McCracken, a mother from Lexington, Kentucky. She had a job she loved, and managed close to a hundred employees. Then the pandemic hit. Kiarica Shields single mother of four in Georgia, lost her job as a hospice nurse in the early days of the pandemic, then with schools and child care closed, has struggled to find the care she needs in order to find work. PUBLIC VERSION. Filmmaker Joe Swanberg (DRINKING BUDDIES, YOU'RE NEXT, Netflix's LOVE) is one of the most prolific artists working today. Writer, director, producer, actor, editor, cinematographer… he literally does it all! Swanberg sits down with Adam, Joe, and Arwen to discuss his career journey from aspiring basketball player to filmmaker… the films and filmmakers of the mid-80's to mid-90's that inspired him while working at Hollywood Video… how he prioritizes projects that “can be made tomorrow” rather than investing years developing giant productions that may never ever get made at all… how working with Adam Wingard helped teach him how to make really good movies really fast… and how he turned a combination of fear and major life changes like becoming a father, getting divorced, and being broke into the very fuel that kept him churning out project after project in his 20's and 30's. Swanberg also discusses acting in Mickey Keating's latest film OFFSEASON which opened in theaters on March 11th and is currently available on VOD and digital! Dr. Arwen provides “Hollywood Therapy” for a filmmaker unsure of just how much time, energy, and money to spend promoting and traveling with a short film on the festival circuit and Swanberg reveals where you can now finally stream his earlier previously impossible to find films in this total geek-out between three fellow filmmakers / cinematic nerds.

The best shade trees you'll ever plant are the ones you'll never sit under!None of us are self-made. We're all sitting under "shade trees" that were planted by our forefathers, by our families, and by our friends. Now, it's your turn to leave a meaningful legacy by planting your own shade trees for others to sit under. Not everyone can be a legend, but everyone can leave a legacy.

BJ takes us to Dresden, Germany where he begins research on his most groundbreaking project: the Wet Specimen. A dead body was secured within minutes of death. Occiput, atlas, axis and spinal cord removed to determine actual size in life. This would either prove or disprove the Specific Chiropractic principle and practice and elevate the profession into the realm of objective science.
Karley Sciortino's “Slutever” empire and Joe Swanberg's Netflix show, “Easy,” remind us that not all bad sex encounters are existentially and forever bad or damaging. There's a “good” kind of bad that we tolerate in so many parts of our lives, but we don't always extend that trial-and-error tolerance to our sex lives. Sciortino, Swanberg, and I (lol presumptuous) are here to tell you that there's “good” bad sex that's important and necessary. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/alittledeath/support

In theaters and/or On Demand now, you can check out new films by Alex Gibney, Michael Winterbottom, Woody Allen, and Joe Swanberg.
