I encourage all of my patients to work with an acupuncturist during fertility treatment. Acupuncture is the "A" in my TEAM (Therapist, Eating well, Acupuncture, and Meditation), and there are many evidence based reasons to consider doing acupuncture during treatment. On the blog, I'm sharing a conversation with Judy Tognetti, a local acupuncturist. Here's her explanation of how acupuncture works for fertility patients: "Fertility acupuncture is based on the concept of using the nervous system, lymphatic system, and balancing hormones. By utilizing certain points in the body, we're able to adjust the hormones. If we use electrical stimulation, we're able to secrete neurotransmitters. At certain amplitudes, we can secrete serotonin, dopamine, whatever it is that we're trying to secrete. Other than that, we're using needle points that are selected over the ovaries or over the uterus to drive blood flow, increase lymphatic circulation, and balance the hormones. Basically, in a nutshell, that's what it's doing while we're doing it." Read the full show notes on Dr. Aimee's website Visit Judy Tognetti at her website. Most people, when they don't feel well, go to a doctor…who then prescribes medicine to help them feel better. But sometimes the side effects of that medicine can be challenging to deal with. So some people say that Eastern medicine is definitely the way to go instead, since its mostly natural remedies rather than chemicals. But now we're hearing that maybe Eastern medicine is not always the best way to go for some people, so what do you do when neither Eastern nor Western medicine seems to fit the bill? On this episode, we answer once and for all the eternal question; should Eastern or Western medicine be what we turn to. ABOUT OUR GUEST:Amy J. Harris is a shaman and writer. Year ago when I met Dr. Sarno, he explained to me why he no longer prescribed Physical Therapy. He said that when people focused so much on a "physical solution" for an issue that has an emotional genesis, they would be blocked from healing. I agree with him, when we look at it like this. And, over years of practice, I have realized that there is a place for things like PT, Therapeutic Massage, Accupuncture, and other "physical" interventions when they are approached through the lens of love, not fear. When Kathy reached out to me, I knew I wanted to share her story. A PT who suffered with back and leg pain for years, healed herself completely through JournalSpeak, and now wants to created teamwork with allied medical professionals about PT's place in this work. Y'all, I got to interview a very special guest..my MOM! My Mom, Dr. Mom, AKA Patricia Sylwester is an MD and a super inspiring entrepreneur. Dr. Sylwester is a graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and has been practicing in Washington since 1986. She was the owner of a busy urgent care facility in which she treated patients for more than a decade. Over the course of her career, her interests shifted to improving overall health as opposed to treating disease, so she underwent additional training in the more holistic practice of Functional Medicine. "We treat each patient as a whole person, considering all factors, including lifestyle and stress, before recommending any course of action." Over the course of Dr. Sylwester's career, she became concerned that conventional medicine left some patients without real solutions for their problems. She expanded her medical training to include Functional Medicine and even Accupuncture, giving her the skills to bring meaningful change to the lives of her patients. She believes dietary changes are the #1 tool you can utilize for radical change in improving chronic conditions, and her personal diet is the Keto Diet. Oh, and since she is my Mom, you will also hear her 'Momming' me as well as sharing about my childhood...Fun stuff!!
