Hey everybody! Episode 88 of the show is out. In this episode, I spoke with Alumnis (Alejandra Ortiz). She had been highly recommended to me by a good friend and then recently someone who was dieting with Merav and myself also highly recommended her. Alumnis was also doing a retreat right next door and so it seemed serendipitous. Alumnis is a Colombian teacher who works with the voice. We had a really fascinating conversation about the power of the voice, how it can be opened and truly found, its healing effects, the power of the word, and we touched a bit on plant medicines as well, especially as the voice and song are often an integral part of many traditions. I really enjoyed this conversation and Alumnis really has a beautiful presence and wisdom that she shares from her own journey and work with others. It was a pleasure for me to sit down with her and I hope one day to sit down with her again and learn more from her. I trust you all will find this episode illuminating. A true honour, Reinhard Flatischler is my guest today! Born in 1950 in Vienna, he completed studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and started his career as a classical concert pianist. He studied with master-drummers from all continents, is a member of the Scientific Committee in the International Society for Music in Medicine; composer of the orchestral suite “Waves upon Waves” and “Space beyond Space” and lead performer with the Auckland Philharmonia and Auckland Choral Society. Reinhard is the author of four books (Rhythm for Evolution) and composer/producer of eight award-winning albums, all bestsellers in the realm of rhythm-focused music and regarded as standard music literature. His unique work bridges the domains of education, therapy, coaching, high-end performance and meditation practices. With his compositions and his educational approach, Reinhard has fundamentally influenced the European drums and percussion scene. The media repeatedly describes him as the “ambassador of the global language of rhythm.” He is the founder of MegaDrums and TaKeTiNa, where he educates people to explore, entrain and experience rhythm with their main instrument – the body. He is also the host of The Power of Rhythm Podcast, where he speaks with world class performers and trendsetters in rhythm based music, to educate about the transformative, healing and creative power of rhythmic expression. This conversation blew me away - a deep dive into the world of rhythm! Reinhard explains why rhythm is the most fundamental power of life and what it means to become one with rhythm. That rhythm is something we all have, can access and experience, because it's what we are. We also talk about: - How human learning can be triggered through rhythmic processes - That TaKeTiNa is not just a rhythm pattern, but about a deep connection with life through rhythm. - Simultaneous perception and how it is a doorway to inner stillness - The relation between rhythm and health - Long term healing of depression through rhythm practices - The vagus nerve, heart rate variability and its relation to rhythm, the nervous & immune system and wellbeing - Polyrhythmic structures and primal rhythmic movements reflecting the purity of nature. - Why chaos is wisdom and your guide - What rhythmic intelligence and the chaos / order cycle is - Why the same rhythm archetypes underly the many voices of music & various rhythm cultures of this world - And much more About Reinhard Flatischler: https://www.facebook.com/reinhard.flatischler/ https://www.instagram.com/rflatischler/ https://powerofrhythm.com/ Free course: taketina.com/member Books: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=reinhard+flatischler Orchestral suite 'Waves upon Waves': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWfJmL5wn2Y ---------------- ★★ SHARING = CARING! Reinhard Flatischler is a highly regarded composer and musician who has developed an innovative and unique form of music. TaKeTiNa allows us to resonate with the natural rhythms of waves and energy that can be found everywhere in nature and reality, including within ourselves, for we are rhythmic beings. Through practicing this method, people can have mental illness such as anxiety, or even physical pain, greatly aleviated, using the healing power of natural rhythm. At a time where people have grown up out of sync with nature, where there is widespread stress and disruption over Coronavirus and politics, the healing power of this amazing music and the peace and bliss it can bring, could not be needed more. Energy and frequency and vibration are key, are they not?

Marcus Sims started playing music and writing songs early in his life and played with his brothers in a bluegrass band. He says, “Music comes naturally, so you can jump into it.” In this podcast, Marcus explained TaKeTina, which is a musical activity for the purpose of creating inner peace and learning about life. Marcus says, we are rhythmic and have rhythm in us; life is rhythm, but modern humans have lost touch with the rhythm of life. TaKeTiNA helps awaken our natural rhythms and is one answer to the challenges of life by reconnecting with nature and the rhythms of nature. TaKeTiNa takes us through a musical journey using our body as an instrument, with rhythmic mantras, clapping, and stepping. TaKeTina helps shift our perception from linear to simultaneous to enter a deep state of relaxation. It is a very joyful process and can result in a deep trance or deep state of being, and lead to profound insights. TaKeTiNa “cultivates the state of being music,” and helps modern humans remember this. Marcus says it is a good thing to cultivate the present, and focus on our own inner world, starting with ourselves and our families, and creating peace and music in our families. For more information, visit www.taketina.com and email Marcus at rhythm4life0112358@gmail.com.
Jason Walker was smitten by the drums early in life, and is still playing with some of his childhood friends. He says he has been fortunate to play in a lot of different situations and always wants to see where music leads him. "Music takes you out of regular time and space," he says. He plays with the intention of best serving the space he is in. Vibrations of music are a powerful thing, he says, and can heal your body; "rhythm is bigger than all of us." He is thankful for the conversations about the power of music, like at Victor Wooten's Spirit of Music camp, and says it is on musicians to pursue this. He says it seems to him that music is a being or entity and that we are being played by music as much as we are playing music. He also talked about Taketina, which is a polyrhythmic exercise to experience vibrations in your body

DrumHeart.org is the website of Michael Kenny, MMT, MT-BC, a music therapist, educator, and performer based in Dallas,Texas. Michael Kenny offers individual and group music therapy for all ages. Michael has over 15 years of experience as a music therapist. He has worked with a diverse set of populations including: psychiatry, autistic and special needs children, Alzheimer's and geriatric patients, developmentally delayed and physically challenged individuals. He brings a sense of healing, sacredness, and wellness to every musical experience. TaKeTiNa is a group rhythmic process that utilizes sight, sound, and movement to activate human and musical potential through rhythm. It was developed in 1970 by Austrian musician and composer Reinhard Flatischler. Participants in a TaKeTiNa circle are guided via call and response and the pulse of a surdo drum through a series of steps, claps, and songs. This process induces a flux between two states: being IN rhythm and being OUT of rhythm. Participants fall in and out of rhythm in the circle; a process analogous to our movement through life. Each time TaKeTiNa participants find their way back to the basic pulse and fall back in rhythm, they experience rhythm at a more profound and intense level.
