Have you ever been asked to "send n00ds" or "show bobs"? Unfortunately, Morgan has. Several times. That's why she created a series called What's In My DM's where she traverses the swamp of her message requests, and reads them for your entertainment. Lucky for you, the series has now become a staple of My Body, My Jokes! and in this episode, we hear from many a creep-o. Episode 3 also features a peek into Morgan's childhood through her "Thinspiration" journal (gross, right?) and how she's rewriting her past. So sit your beautiful butt down and kiki with us!

“Feeling better about our bodies does not come from changing our bodies, it comes from changing our mindset,” says body positivity activist and influencer Alex Light, author of You Are Not A Before Picture. “I would love for women—because women predominantly bear the burden of beauty standards—to be able to live their lives free of concern about how they look. We have been taught that if we're not thin or pretty then we're not worthy.” In this episode of Clean Beauty School, mbg beauty director and host Alexandra Engler chats with Light about body neutrality, her hopes for Gen-Z and future generations, and the return of “thinspiration” culture on social media. Plus, why toeing the line between “wanting to better yourself” and “not being good enough as I am now” can be so challenging. Thinspiration or Fitspiration has been around since I was a kid, only it didn't have such a cool name. But, I learned that cutting pictures out of magazines of women whom I aspired to look like would help me, somehow, look more like them. I read I should put these pictures on the refrigerator and that would help me not eat. I should put them on my mirror so I could look at these images, every day, and be reminded of my goal--to have that kind of body. It may sound innocent, but friends, fitspiration and thinspiration are not of the Lord. Jesus doesn't ask us to try to look like other women. Jesus doesn't ask us to not eat so that we can have someone else's body size or shape. There is so much evil wrapped up in this seemingly innocent "inspirational" exercise--and it's time that it was exposed. Today we talk about the problem with thinspiration and fitspiration and how, spiritually and physically harmful it can be. Looking at another woman's body and deciding that you "want one just like it" is the type of coveting talked about way back in the Old Testament! Looking at a photo with envy, daily, doesn't lead us to a place of body image freedom--it leads to a place where we are further stuck in our idolatry. Topics we tackle in today's show about the Problem with Thinspiration: What are we worshipping? Have we traded the "truth" for a "lie" like Romans 1:25 says. God didn't make me to look like her. Does posting these pictures actually bring us more shame and hurt us in other ways? God isn't waiting for me to look more like that image, I'm made in his image. The word “thinspo” is cutting a dangerous path through today’s youth culture. Spelled t-h-i-n-s-p-o, Thinspo is short for thin inspiration. It’s a social media user movement offering up memes, quotes, pictures, and posts designed to encourage diet and weight loss. The movement is coming under fire for the ways in which it promotes warped and unhealthy body image standards, particularly for our girls. Experts are rightly warning that the thinspo movement is fueling disordered eating and body dysmorphia. One of many memes I viewed simply says, “Don’t ever stop trying. Because one day, you will be thin.” One seventeen year old in the thinspo movement posted a video on TikTok telling viewers that all she had consumed that day was a jug filled with ice water, with the hashtag what I eat in a day. Parents, the pressure to be thin is strong. Peer influence is powerful. Be aware, and encourage your kids away from the dangers of worshiping the god of thinness.

Pro Ana. My friend Mia. Thinspiration. If you know these terms, you are familiar with one of the dark corners of the internet where vulnerable people go to find support in making bad life decisions. These are pro-eating disorder communities that teach women how to be better at starving themselves. A language emerged to bypass bans and filters, replacing trigger words like anorexia and bulimia, with friendly phrases like: “my friends Ana and Mia.” Bone thin bodies, grim weight statistics, and frightening calorie counts are posted as goals and achievements, hashtagged #thinspiration.
