As we near the end of our week focusing on tilling the soil of the heart, today we’re going to look at the role of community in positioning ourselves to receive all that God longs to give. God is calling us into a deeper commitment to love others, and be loved by others. He wants to use us and those he’s placed around us to guide us deeper into fullness of life. So as we set our eyes on him, may he fill our hearts with compassion and love, and desire to be fully known and fully loved by our communities. Our Scripture for today comes from Romans 12:4-5, and today's worship is This I Believe (The Creed) by Hillsong Worship. _____ First15 is a daily devotional written and recorded by Craig Denison. One Calling – 1 Corinthians 1:10-17Much like the church in Corinth, many followers of Christ are divided today, especially as it relates to our response to the Coronavirus. We need remember that in him we are to be united in the same mind and judgement, seeking the proclamation of the gospel above all. Speaking from Titus 3:4-5 “when the kindness and love of God our Saviour appeared, He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy”, Catrina continued the “It is finished” series, today focusing on God's kindness to us: His kindness that leads us to repentance; His kindness that enables us to be kind! Before she spoke, we played This I Believe (The Creed) from https://youtu.be/uuDI-sk2nJU and at the end we played The UK Blessing from https://youtu.be/PUtll3mNj5U

As a church we seek to love well, change lives, through Christ that means we want to do ministry like Jesus. He saw and pursued an social and religious outsider. Jesus did not block Zacchaeus from coming to him, rather Jesus invited him to a relationship and Zacchaeus was greatly transformed. We too are to go out and seek and save the lost, we do this not through our own power but through the power of Christ. 1. See and Pursue (vs. 1-7)2. Repentance and Transformation (vs. 8-9)3. Thanks for praying with me today. Our order uses elements and readings from the Book of Common Prayer (1979) Daily Morning Prayer Rite Two with music, worship songs and a time of free guided prayer. Music: “This I Believe (The Creed)” by Hillsong. Follow the reading plan with me Submit a prayer request here! 1. Opening 2. Prayer of Confession: Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. 3. Psalms 83, 85, 86 Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. 4. The Lessons Daily Office Year One, Proper 20 2 Kings 9:1-16, 1 Cor. 6:12-20, Matt. 6:1-6, 16-18 5. The Apostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth; I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. 6. The Prayers Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. Guided prayer and meditation 7. Benediction Painting by Ronald Raab
Why are friends such an essential part of the Body of Christ? In what ways are you following Jesus lead in creating or deepening your friendships? On Sunday, August 4, 2019, guest speaker Steve Haas continues the sermon series, “Wisdom in Bite-Size Pieces” with a sermon on “Wisdom in friendship.” The worship service kicks off with worship through song led by Kalina Wilson and Bill Pomeroy, leading us in “Draw Me Close” and “What A Friend We Have in Jesus.” After a two-song worship set, the congregation greets those around them, and then Tantiani Budiman (Director of Eastgate Christian School) gives the morning announcements. Following the announcements, Steve Murray and Tantiani provide an update on ECS - the preschool that operates on-site Monday-Friday on campus. Steve Murray then prays for the offering and gives an introduction to the guest speaker. As the ushers pass around the baskets for the offering, the worship band sings, “In Christ Alone.” Steve Haas then comes up to the stage to give the message of the morning. The sermon is followed by Holy Communion. The worship band sings "It Is Well With My Soul" during Communion. After Communion we pray for the Agarwal family who is moving away. "This I Believe (The Creed)" is performed by the worship band as people leave the service. Kalina and Bill are joined by Lincoln Ballard on electric guitar, Bob Sale on drums, and Tim Rayner on bass guitar. Steve Haas is a longtime friend of LJCC, having spoken many times to our church family. A gifted and dynamic spokesperson for World’ Vision’s worldwide humanitarian work, under the title “Catalyst,” Steve can be found engaging faith leaders, strategizing on World’ Vision’ s major initiatives or communicating about global issues that affect the poor. ‘Steve’s background has entailed serving on the staff of ‘Illinois’ Willow Creek Community Church to facilitating Socratic forums for Fortune 500 executives to refugee relief work on Cambodia/Vietnam border. He joined World Vision in 2001.

Upon coming to faith in Jesus we do not simply secure eternal life, but should seek to have the pattern of our daily lives transformed by our faith in him. Our knowledge of the gospel should lead us to live godly lives that give testimony to the truth that is in us. This pursuit is not an optional one, but rather is “entrusted by the command of God our Savior” (Titus 1:3).1. The author (v. 1a)2. His purpose (v. 1b)3. Our motivation (vs. 2-3)4. Peter confesses Jesus as the Christ and Jesus begins to teach them that, contrary to their understanding, the Messiah must suffer and die. Similarly, as we follow Christ we must not expect a life of decadence and ease, but following his example, be willing to deny ourselves, take up his cross and follow him. 1. This I Believe (The Creed) 8-26-18 AM by Rock Hill First Church of the Nazarene
In today's podcast we wrap up our week on seeking God by looking at the act of seeking God through community. You may be a people person, or a total introvert, but either way, God wants to use his church to encourage you and draw you closer to him. The Lord loves unity in his body, and he longs for his church, his Bride to worship and seek him as one. May God open your heart and mind today to the community he's placed you in in this season. Our Scripture for today comes from Hebrews 10:24-25, and today's worship is This I Believe (The Creed) by Hillsong Worship featuring Matt Crocker. First15 is a daily devotional written and recorded by Craig Denison. If you would like to learn more about the First15 app, books, blogs, videos and our other resources, please visit first15.org. Despite the tremendous demonstrations of his power throughout the region, those in his own hometown of Nazareth reject him. Like the prophets of old, Jesus is opposed and his message is disregarded; a foreshadowing of things to come in Jerusalem. Might we find in our own hearts the faith to believe. The proclamation of the kingdom of God will not be received equally by those who hear it. Using parables, Jesus teaches on the nature of the gospel and how, while it does not always take root in every heart, when it does take root, it bears tremendous fruit. More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
There are some nights when the moon shines so brightly I don't even have to turn on the outside lights to pick my way across my back deck. It's like a spotlight in the sky. Except that the moon doesn't have any light of it's own. The moon merely reflects the light of the sun. When we sing Hillsong Worship's song, "This I Believe (The Creed)" or recite the statements found in the Apostles' Creed we realize that it is not Scripture, but a reflection of the truth found in Scripture. I hope you'll take on the challenge of exploring the Scriptural support for the statements of the Apostles' Creed with me. In fact, I've created a useful resource to help you. On this episode I discuss: How creeds summarize Biblical truth and can give us a concise overview of foundational beliefs as followers of Christ The B.I.T.E.s - Bible Interaction Tool Exercises - for the week include: Explore a topic Read in context Clarifying the purpose of the creeds What it means to believe the statements sung in our song and found in the Apostles' Creed Refuting the idea of "blind faith" with the eyewitness accounts of the apostles - Luke 1:1-4 The Apostles’ Creed - A Teaching Series by Dr. R.C. Sproul The Apostles' Creed - Matt Chandler YouTube Video Series Additional Resources Download the single or the entire album Lyrics and chords This Week's Challenge Use a special resource I created to help you get started digging intro Scripture and exploring the Scriptural support for the statements made in the Apostles' Creed. I hope you find it beneficial as you explore Scripture yourself and affirm what you believe. While you are looking up individual verses using this resource, I recommend reading them in context, one of my favorite Bible Interaction Tool Exercises.
Our culture is one of constantly fluctuating rankings; popularity and success, stardom and riches, these are the things that many pursue and people value in others. This should not be the case for the follower of Christ. Looking beyond one's net worth, we are to love everyone as our neighbor regardless of class or social standing.1. The directive: Do not discriminate (vs. 1)2. The example: Two guys walk into a church (vs. 2-4)3. The reasons: a) God loves the poor (vs. 5-6a) b) The rich oppose you (vs. 6b-7) c) It is a sin (vs. 8-11)4. The apostle Paul and Barnabas are sent out on their first missionary journey and they strategically begin in the synagogues of the Jews. As one would expect, the proclamation of the gospel was not well received by all. Paul confronts a magician, Elymas, who opposed them miraculously striking him blind. Seeing what had occurred, even the procounsel believed. Knowing that our proclamation could put us at odds with others cannot deter us from sharing our faith.1. It is intentional (vs. 1-3)2. Chip continues the "Heart Cries" sermon series. When sin takes root in our lives it can form STRONGHOLDS that are not easily removed (Psalm 6:1-3). The CONSEQUENCES of these sins are felt in every area of our life (Psalm 6:5-7). To defeat these strongholds we need to take aggressive action: Depend, first and foremost, on God's unfailing love. Admit we have a PROBLEM and seek God's forgiveness. Repent and begin to tear down the stronghold, and trust in God's MERCY. Featuring music by the Praise Band "Found In You", "This I Believe (The Creed), and "No Longer Slaves" with soloist Tim Springer. The Praise Band closes with "Good, Good, Father" and the Worship Team sings "Peace Be With You". If you have any questions or comments, you can reach Westport Road Baptist Church through our Facebook page, our website, direct email to mike@mywrbc.org, or by contacting the church office at 502.425.2350.

There is perhaps no greater example in the Bible of the message in Proverbs 16:18 (“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”) than when a seemingly trivial sleepless night begins the downfall of the evil Haman. As a result of Esther's impassioned plea, Haman's evil plans are turned against him, his enemy Mordecai is exalted to his position and prominence, and the Jewish people are given right to defend themselves. 1.
