Newcastle upon Tyne is famous for many things: its bridges, nightlife, and being the birthplace of Greggs are just some of them. We've seen plenty of world firsts here, been on the frontline of science and technology, witnessed ethical consumption in the 18th century, and turned a Roman settlement into a city. But our disasters are perhaps less well-known. Newcastle has suffered from plague, fire, flood, and cholera - among other things. Why don't we hear about these as often, if at all? Let's explore the Great Plague of 1636, the Great Flood of 1771, and the Great Fire of 1854 to see what they can tell us about the city we can encounter here in the 2020s in this week's episode of Fabulous Folklore. 288# Before the Waters Rise | Ancient Floods and Modern Warning SignsAcross continents, cultures, and thousands of years, humanity has told the same story: that the world was once destroyed by water, civilisation wiped away, and life forced to begin again. Tonight, we investigate the Great Flood — not as a single religious tale, but as a global human memory. Why do civilisations that never met tell the same story? Were these myths inspired by real catastrophic floods, lost coastlines, or something even older? And if the world really did drown once… what survived?
It's the end of 2025, and Trump's DOJ just found a million new pages of Epstein files (but you can't see them). We're talking about this and how Trump told Marjorie Taylor Greene that he would never release the Epstein files because it would hurt all of his friends, the new Trump Lake Michigan allegations, AI and politics, and a new weird / gross TPUSA grift. We're also talking about the Great Flood (a new movie on Netflix), Stranger Things, and the Pluribus finale. All of this plus a brief retrospective of Quentin Tarantino films it's still 2025 for another day or so, and we're still going on about that. Recording on December 30, 2025. The beauty of the Gospel of Jesus Christ comes alive in the Old Testament. The backbone of learning the Gospel in the Old Testament begins with a historical understanding, which W. Cleon Skousen lays out masterfully by helping the student learn the easy hook dates of critical learning. Weaving these hook dates among the major players in the Old Testament pulls together the storyline and fasinating tapestry of God's master plan for all His children. From Adam to the Great Flood, to Abraham, Joseph and Moses, you will learn how to remember who, when and what each of these prophetic leaders did, promoting and testifying of Jesus Christ and the Plan of Salvation for all mankind. You will discover the linage of Abraham traced through the ages and into our present day, along with the promise of Abraham and the responsibilities of Priesthood leadership residing on his descendants today. God is the same and ever-present today, yesterday and forever, demonstrating His unchanging power and love through Old Testament times, and continuing through your lifetime today and the lives of your posterity in the tomorrows to come.

The historiographical studies developed by Ruth Rodríguez Sotomayor, agraduate librarian of the University of Guayaquil, researcher at the HistoricalArchive of Guayas, and lecturer, are extraordinary. Her studies go beyond the limits of traditional historiography, or rather, they transcend the boundaries of the orthodox history, as Ruth Rodríguez Sotomayor rescues and exposes, through the study of symbols, the arts, sciences, and philology, of an almost unknown past of the Americas. And to speak of the Americas is to speak of the continent of civilizing godswhose traces are today silent vestiges of the original Golden Age.Certainly, Rodríguez Sotomayor's work opposes the aforementionedorthodox or “official” version, and thus, consequently, becomes a revolutionaryproposal. One of the most important fields of her studies is the prefiguration of theorigin of mankind in South America and the spread of its civilization to othercontinents. They are therefore connected to the essential works of distinguishedresearchers such as the multidisciplinary Francisco P. Moreno, the philologist andethnologist Emeterio Villamil de Rada, and the archaeologist Roberto Rengifo, since Rodríguez Sotomayor recognizes in America –or Pre-America as she aptlysheds light on it, that is, the America before the known America– as the nucleusfrom which the civilizing group emerged, migrating, projecting, and settling indifferent centers of the globe, expanding its civilization.Rafael Videla Eissmann (Chile, 1979) is a historian graduated from UniversidadCatólica de Chile. American indie rock band The Antlers began almost 20 years ago as a solo project from singer and songwriter Peter Silberman. While the previous album, Green To Gold, was a pastoral, almost folky affair, the new album, Blight, is almost like a classical song cycle, and is a musical warning about nature under siege. “The consequences of accelerating technology and environmental neglect feel imminent; that sense of urgency made me want to speak more candidly,” he explains (Transgressive Records). Silberman and longtime Antlers drummer Michael Lerner play some of these new songs, in-studio. Set list: 1. Consider the Source 2. Calamity 3. A Great Flood
The first Moomins story about a family of nature-loving white round trolls was published in 1945 during World War Two. The Moomins and the Great Flood was created by writer and artist Tove Jansson as a source of comfort during bleak times. It highlighted the struggles of those who'd been displaced by war introducing readers into the lives of Moomintroll, Moominmamma and Moominpappa. Tove's tales and illustrations, featuring the cuddly creatures with smooth round snouts, are loved the world over and have been published in more than 60 languages. She was born in Finland but her first language was Swedish, which the original Moomins books were published in. Tove's niece Sophia Jansson, speaks to Reena Stanton-Sharma about growing up in a family surrounded by creativity and nature. Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Witness History is for those fascinated by the past. We take you to the events that have shaped our world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes every day, we take you back in time and all over the world, to examine wars, coups, scientific discoveries, cultural moments and much more. Recent episodes explore everything from the death of Adolf Hitler, the first spacewalk and the making of the movie Jaws, to celebrity tortoise Lonesome George, the Kobe earthquake and the invention of superglue. We look at the lives of some of the most famous leaders, artists, scientists and personalities in history, including: Eva Peron – Argentina's Evita; President Ronald Reagan and his famous ‘tear down this wall' speech; Thomas Keneally on why he wrote Schindler's List; and Jacques Derrida, France's ‘rock star' philosopher. You can learn all about fascinating and surprising stories, such as the civil rights swimming protest; the disastrous D-Day rehearsal; and the death of one of the world's oldest languages.(Photo: Tove Jansson in 1988. If the Great Flood of Genesis 6 wiped out all living beings on the earth, and the Nephilim were living beings on the earth, why does the Bible tell us that the Nephilim were in the land of Canaan when the Israelites first entered it?

We'll explore the escalating corruption of humanity, the mysterious Nephilim, and the heart-wrenching decision God makes to cleanse the Earth. Today in History: God created Adam and Eve on Rosh Hashanah (according to tradition, see Genesis 1:26). The waters of the Great Flood drained and the dove did not return. Noah removed the cover of the ark, but he stayed inside (possible date, see Genesis 8). Abraham bound his son Isaac to offer him on Mount Moriah on this day (according to tradition, see Genesis 22). The daily sacrifice resumed on God's altar, but the Second Temple itself was not yet rebuilt (see Ezra 3:6). Ezra the Scribe read the Torah to the exiles who had returned to Jerusalem (see Nehemiah8:1). It may be the day Messiah was born in Bethlehem of Judah (possible date, see Luke 2). The source is an excerpt from a sermon that focuses on the biblical story of Noah's Ark and the Great Flood as recorded in Genesis 6:9-22. The preacher explores the question of whether the flood is myth or history, arguing that the account is historical and aligns with archaeological evidence like worldwide flood legends and geological findings such as massive fossil beds. The sermon contrasts this biblical narrative with the scientific concept of uniformitarianism, suggesting that the latter requires deliberately overlooking evidence of a catastrophic, worldwide event. Finally, the speaker discusses the themes of God's judgment and covenant in the story, emphasizing that Noah's salvation was an act of unmerited grace requiring him to express his faith through obedience by building the ark.Support the showThanks for listening! The ancients told tales of the inundation of the world with water -- the Great Flood. How do these stories compare with the story told in Genesis, and what does this event mean for the Christian?
In Genesis 6-9, we find one of the most famous and infamous stories in the Bible: the story of Noah and the Great Flood. In this story, God goes on a journey toward acceptance of an imperfect relationship with his imperfect creatures, because God refuses to give up on his creatures and his creation. Hosted on Acast. Send us a textDive deep into the biblical dispensation of conscience—that pivotal period between Adam and Eve's expulsion from Eden and the Great Flood. For 1,656 years, humanity was guided only by conscience rather than divine law, with Adam himself living 930 years to share his direct experiences walking with God.What went wrong during this period? Why did God ultimately regret creating mankind? Our exploration uncovers the fascinating progression from Cain and Abel's sacrifices to the mysterious Nephilim—those offspring produced when the "sons of God" took human wives. We examine competing interpretations: Were these supernatural beings who corrupted human bloodlines, or simply intermarriage between godly and ungodly human lineages? The evidence from Jude's epistle and ancient Jewish writings points toward a supernatural explanation that helps explain why, among potentially millions of people, only eight souls remained righteous by the Flood's time. The dispensation of conscience teaches us something profound about human nature and God's patience. Despite direct knowledge of God passed down through long-lived patriarchs, humanity descended into such violence and corruption that God was grieved to his heart. Yet his love never faltered. Even as this dispensation closed with judgment, we see God's mercy in preserving Noah's family and personally closing the ark door to ensure their safety. Jesus himself warned that the end times would mirror Noah's day—a sobering reminder that challenges popular notions of progressive human improvement. What lessons can we learn from this failed dispensation? How does it illuminate our understanding of God's ongoing testing of humanity? Listen now to discover why this ancient history matters profoundly for understanding our place in God's unfolding plan. In this discussion we talk with Professor Corinna Mullin who is a member of the Anti-Imperialist Scholars Collective. Corinna Mullin is an anti-imperialist academic who teaches political science and economics. Her research examines the historical legacies of colonialism and the role of capitalist expansion and imperialist imbrications in producing peripheral state “security dependency,” with a focus on unequal exchange, super-exploitation, resource extraction, and other forms of surplus value drain/transfer as well as resistance. Corinna has also researched and published academic works on border imperialism, struggles around the colonial-capitalist university, fascism, multipolarity, and national liberation, with a focus on the Maghreb, West Asia, and Turtle Island. Corinna was a member of the Steering Committee for the International Peoples' Tribunal on U.S. Imperialism and organizes with CUNY for Palestine and Labor for Palestine. She serves on the Steering Committee of the Professional Staff Congress (PSC)-CUNY's International Committee and is a member of the Delegate Assembly. Full bio from AISC. In this discussion we primarily discuss her piece, Zionism, Imperialism, and the Struggle Against Global Fascism: Palestine as the ‘Hornet's Nest' of US Empire from the Anti-Imperialist Scholars Collective blog The Pen Is My Machete And a little bit on her piece The ‘War on Terror' as Primitive Accumulation in Tunisia: US-Led Imperialism and the Post-2010-2011 Revolt/Security Conjuncture from Middle East Critique Also I say more about this in the episode, but Dr. Mullin was fired from CUNY as a result of her stance and organizing with respect to Palestine. We will include a statement from AISC on this and a Statement in Solidarity with CUNY Faculty and Students Facing McCarthyite Retaliation for Palestine Solidarity which we have signed. There are also a number of other calls to action for faculty and students at CUNY that we will include in the show description. Corinna talks about those at the end of the episode and we strongly encourage folks to support those calls to action it only takes a minute of your time. In this discussion Dr. Mullin talks a little bit about Dr. Ali Kadri's The Accumulation of Waste: A Political Economy of Systemic Destruction and it just so happens that we have a study group on that exact book starting on October 1st, it's available to everyone who supports the show, whether through patreon, BuyMeACoffee or as a YouTube member of the show. Details on that study group and how to join it are linked in the show description. But just to note that there are only about 40 spots left in the group as we publish this, so if you want to join us, make sure you do so ASAP to reserve your space. Calls to Action: "Hadeeqa Arzoo Malik is being made an example of for the sake of setting the tone across the nation at public universities, as they seek further control over the student movement for Palestine. City College President Vincent Boudreau has already denied her appeal for a drop to the charges, without even an acknowledgement to the 2,000+ calls and emails from the community that demanded her reinstatement. Now, it is time to escalate both our tactics against CUNY and whom we pressure— Take it to the Board of Trustees. Your rage is needed to make it loud and clear that CUNY's repression will not go uninterrupted. "Demand Immediate Reinstatement of Terminated Adjunct Faculty and Defend Academic Freedom Send a letter to Brooklyn College President Michelle Anderson, CUNY Chancellor Félix Matos Rodríguez, and CUNY Board Chairperson William Thompson urging them to reinstate the fired adjunct faculty and protect the rights of CUNY students and workers who stand in solidarity with Palestine. The targeting of these individuals is part of a broader assault on higher education and academic freedom. Their fight is our fight—silencing them is an attack on us all. Our first new Magic and Medicines Bonus Episode in ages is out today, and all about Enochian and Angelic Magic! If you happened to listen to our series "Dog Days" then you will have encountered several allusions to this topic, but, so that we can all start on a level pegging, we begin this episode at the beginning of this particular magical tradition, discussing Enoch and the Apocryphal books of the Pentateuch/Christian Bible where Angels are explained, along with tales of the rebel Nephilim who prompted Yahweh/Jove/God to send the Great Flood.Once the waters of all that have receded, we then dig into the dense and mulchy discoveries made by Doctor John Dee and his scryer Edward Kelley. Between them, so they said and wrote, the pair managed to communicate with Angels, who taught them enormous amounts about how the Universe is really structured, and much more besides.Though their work fell out of popularity for several centuries, like the Book of Enoch, the 19th century and the dawn of several secret societies prompted a significant revival in interest in the topic, with the likes of Aleister Crowley developing Renaissance theories and, apparently, fleshing out our understanding of what's hidden in the Aethyrial Realms, behind gates, keys, and outside the realms of normal human experience. It's all slightly bonkers, but we think you're gonna love it - and are so excited to speak to you again on Saturday when we release Series 7 Episode 0: A Brief History of Wales!Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon, too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcastProud members of the Dark Cast Network.CLICK HERE TO COMPLETE THE THREE RAVENS ACAST SURVEY - PLEASE DO! Did fallen angels teach mankind forbidden knowledge- including the use of make-up to enhance a woman's beauty? Why were Nephilim (giants) in the land of Canaan even after the Great Flood wiped out all living creatures from the face of the earth? These are just two of the questions Kathy and Gary tackle in Part 3 of "The Days of Noah" series.

The Tower of Babel was built after Noah's Great Flood. Yahweh had told Noah and his sons to go out and multiply on the Earth and they did have children and multiply, but they disobeyed when it came to dispersing. They stayed in one area and shared one language and they decided to build themselves a city with a great tower to the heavens. What exactly was this tower and why did Yahweh decide to spread many languages and confuse their efforts? What were these men creating? Clearly, this stone tower didn't rise to the heights of our modern-day skyscrapers. And who exactly was Nimrod who seems to have led these efforts? Did the men of Babel create a portal for the gods to come through? Main theme: Crazy For Thrills by Muse Music with Groove Studios

Alley and DZ discuss how to cope with the flooding and damage and Alley shares why her neighbor called the cops without asking her first.
