Carey Foster appeared in the original TOS pilot, "The Cage," with Jeffrey Hunter as a character who ended up not making the final cut. However, she returned as a Starfleet officer clad in blue in the background of many episodes during the first season of the show.Foster's time in Star Trek was the next step in her relationship with Gene Roddenberry, her uncle, who had previously cast her in an episode of "The Lieutenant." Her Hollywood career had little to do with acting until that point, predominantly working as a dancer in big budget musical movies and several features with Elvis Presley - a superstar she briefly dated!Carey Foster stops by Trek Untold to tell us stories about working on these many sets, her dancing pedigree, and what she does today as an educator in the Montessori system of learning. Plus, her longtime friendship with Teri Garr, the risque choices of Gene Roddenberry in the original Star Trek pilot that almost got the show cancelled before it began, and the actual name of the Starfleet officer she played that was never revealed on TV!Please subscribe to our brand new YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/@trekuntold .There, you will see all the old episodes of this show, as well as new episodes and all of our other content, including shorts and some other fun things planned for the future.Visit my Amazon shop to check out tons of Trek products andother things I enjoy - https://www.amazon.com/shop/thefightnerd View the Teespring store for Trek Untold gear & apparel- https://my-store-9204078.creator-spring.com Support Trek Untold by becoming a Patreon at Patreon.com/TrekUntold.Don't forget to subscribe to the podcast and leave a rating if you like us!Follow Trek Untold on Social MediaInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/trekuntoldTwitter: https://www.twitter.com/trekuntoldFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/trekuntoldFollow Nerd News Today on Social MediaTwitter: Twitter.com/NerdNews2Day Instagram: Instagram.com/NerdNewsToday Facebook: Facebook.com/NerdNewsTodayTrek Untold is sponsored by Treksphere.com, powered by the RAGE Works Podcast Network, and affiliated with Nerd News Today.

Brian Markinson is a veteran performer who can boast multiple Star Trek roles on top of his already crowded resume. Trekkies know him as Vorin from Star Trek TNG "Homeworld," then an appearance as Lt. Durst in VOY "Cathexis" and "Faces," the latter of which he did double duty as the mad Vidiian scientist Sulan. Finally, he wrapped up his time in the cosmos on DS9 in the fifth season episode "In The Cards" as the wacky Dr. Elias Giger.Besides telling stories about his time on Trek, Markinson explains how he transitioned from theatre into TV and film, how that led to working on "Angels in America" on HBO with Al Pacino and Patrick Wilson, his unique "X-Files" episodes, "12 Rounds Reloaded" with WWE superstar with Randy Orton, working with Woody Allen and Wallace Shawn, and much more in this frenetic chat with a highly talented actor who has seen and done it all. Daphne Ashbrook had a very memorable appearance on the Star Trek DS9 episode, "Melora," playing the titular character in an episode that examined physical disabilities through a 90's sci-fi lens. Today, the episode is still discussed and debated, and this ensign's actress is ready to explain her side of the story, as well as tales from other productions ranging from modern films, period pieces, and a few things timey-wimey.Daphne tells us about wearing the Elaysian makeup and body prosthetics, navigating the tricky sets in an electric wheelchair, flying in the air on wires while kissing Alexander Siddig, and her take on the plot and intentions of "Melora," and how she views it through a modern perspective. Plus, her secret audition for a Star Trek movie, working with David Hasselhoff on "Knight Rider," the incredible stunts she did on an obscure made-for-TV movie, her trio of “Murder, She Wrote” appearances loaded with Star Trek alumni (as well as Florence Henderson), and behind-the-scenes stories from her starring role in the American “Doctor Who” movie with Paul McGann. While his time on-screen might have been brief, Vadia Potenza is one of the few actors to play Spock in Star Trek history. Today, his journey through Hollywood brought him to a different profession that can make or break a film or TV show. Potenza is best known to Trekkies as one of the young Spocks in "Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock," and has fond memories of meeting and being directed by Leonard Nimoy, working with Robin Curtis and Lee Remmick, and what it was like to become a Vulcan. We also learn about some of his childhood gigs, including "Father Dowling Mysteries," why he moved away from performing, where life took him as an adult in directing and editing, and a second chance at playing Spock in an unexpected film. Plus, being a production assistant with Jim Henson's studio for the Muppets, stories from BET's "The Iron Ring" MMA reality tv show, editing A&E biography documentaries, and his job today working with Karamu Brown. Deborah Strang's life journey took her from rural Virginia near the Appalachian Mountains to the stages of New York, regional theater across the United States, and finally arriving in Hollywood. Trekkies remember Strang from her role as Admiral T'Lara in the fourth season "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode, "Rules of Engagement," but her career has some other Trek connections, too. We learn about her origins in the performing arts and the tools she picked up along the way; one of the most valuable lessons on acting she learned from her first TV gig, working with Scott Bacula on "Quantum Leap," and Pedro Pascal on "Touched by An Angel" in one of his earliest roles (ages before becoming Din Djarin in "The Mandalorian") and being part of the DC and Marvel Comics animated universes. Today, Deborah is a resident artist at "A Noise Within," a theater company in California that she's been involved with for decades and continues to perform with today. Over the years, Strang has learned tons of things about her craft, and she shares many of those important ones with us on this episode of Trek Untold. Watch Deborah Strang perform in George Bernard Shaw's "Misalliance" at A Noise Within Theater in Pasadena, CA, from May 12 through June 9.
