What if everything we know about the universe's expansion is wrong? David Wiltshire offers a radical perspective on cosmic acceleration and dark energy, proposing that both might be illusions created by the varying passage of time in different regions of the universe. Wiltshire challenges the foundations of modern cosmology with his innovative Timescape model. We discuss the foundations of Einstein's theory of relativity, examining how time behaves differently in regions of high and low matter density. Wiltshire explains how this could alter our understanding of the universe's expansion, potentially eliminating the need for dark energy altogether. His work revisits Mark's Principle and its influence on cosmology, offering an alternative explanation for cosmic phenomena. This episode will captivate anyone interested in the future of cosmological theory, the mystery of dark energy, and the complex nature of time. The universe can be frustrating. Roughly two-thirds of everything in the universe appears to consist of dark energy. Despite decades of study, though, scientists haven’t been able to explain what dark energy is. Astronomers discovered dark energy by studying a type of supernova – exploding stars. The supernovas brighten and fade in a predictable way. That allows astronomers to measure their distance and their motion away from us. Stars that are farther were moving away faster than expected. That suggested that something was causing the universe to expand faster over time: dark energy. But a recent study said that dark energy might not exist. Instead, the researchers proposed a new model to explain what we see, called timescape. The model notes that matter clumps together in clusters of galaxies, with huge “voids” between them. Time passes more slowly in the presence of stronger gravity – like that exerted in the denser regions. So the voids, with less gravity, could be billions of years older than the clusters – creating “bubbles” of spacetime. If that’s correct, then it would be tough to know just when the supernovas in different parts of the universe exploded. And that makes it tough to know how fast they’re moving away from us. So the study says we don’t need dark energy to explain what we see in the universe. But there’s still a lot of work to be done to understand dark energy – including whether it even exists. SpaceTime Series 28 Episode 04Challenging the Existence of Dark EnergyA groundbreaking study from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand is challenging the long-held belief in dark energy, suggesting that the universe's expansion might not require this enigmatic force. The research proposes the "timescape" model, which accounts for variations in cosmic expansion rates by considering differences in gravitational time dilation. This model could potentially resolve some of the universe's biggest mysteries, including the Hubble tension, by suggesting that dark energy is simply a misinterpretation of cosmic conditions.Solar Wind Slowing Beyond PlutoNASA's New Horizons spacecraft has detected a slowdown in the solar wind as it travels beyond Pluto. Send us a textChris Slade's music career reads like a Who's Who list of rock ‘n' roll.  It's truly amazing how many iconic bands and artists he has performed with over the decades. His musical journey can be traced back to 1963.  Chris came from the same village in Wales as fellow Welshman Tom Jones and, as a 17-year-old lad, was hired by Jones to play drums in the singer's backing band, The Squires, for seven years. It was the beginning of an incredible career that is still going strong today. He was the founding member of Mandred Man, and his illustrious resume includes working with Asia, AC/DC, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, and many others. In 2012, Slade launched the band, The Chris Slade Timeline, to mark, at that time, 50 years as a professional rock drummer. The band performs music from all aspects of his lengthy career and has appeared at major festivals including Hellfest, 24 Hours of Le Mans, Harley Davidson Aquitaine, and Saint Tropez and is the only rock band to play the Moscow Olympic Stadium for the Kremlin Cup tennis tournament. The current lineup of The Chris Slade Timeline features Paul “Bun” Davis on lead vocals, bassist Stevie Gee, guitarist James Cornford, Mike Clarke on keys and guitar and, of course the inimitable Mr. Slade on drums.  This core lineup recorded Timescape and continues to tour.https://chrisslade.com https://www.facebook.com/ChrisSladeACDC Visit the Self-Care Institute at https://www.selfcareinstitute.com/ Support the showVisit www.creativepeacemeal.com to leave a review, fan voicemail, and more!Insta @creative_peacemeal_podcastFB @creativepeacemealpodBonfire https://www.bonfire.com/store/creative-peacemeal/Redbubble CPPodcast.redbubble.comCreative Peacemeal READING list here Donate to AhHa!Broadway here!
