In this deeply moving episode of the VinnyRoc Podcast, Vincent "Rocco" Vargas sits down with Casey (@transmute_that_innergy), a Marine Corps veteran, former Mongols MC member, and glioblastoma survivor. Casey shares his raw and transformative journey from war zones and outlaw brotherhoods to holistic healing and inner peace. Diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and given only 3 months to live, Casey defied all odds by rejecting conventional treatment and embracing alternative therapies including fasting, breathwork, plant medicine, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and deep spiritual exploration. Now three years later, Casey is thriving—mentally, physically, and spiritually. This episode explores the toll of war, childhood trauma, ego death through psychedelics, healing masculinity, and what it means to truly be at peace. If you're a veteran, first responder, or anyone walking through fire and looking for light, this is a must-listen.
In this powerful episode of the VinnyRoc Podcast, Vincent "Rocco" Vargas sits down with Dustin Burkett, a former law enforcement officer turned custom gun grip artist and founder of Burkett Customs. He shares how forging unique custom grips from rare and meaningful materials—like wooly mammoth tooth, meteorite, and even samurai armor—became both his business and his therapy. From addiction and suicidal thoughts to finding peace and purpose in craftsmanship and fatherhood, Dustin's story is one of raw vulnerability, redemption, and resilience. This is a must-watch conversation for first responders, veterans, and anyone navigating the mental health challenges of service and life after. The stories that you hear about the border from mainstream media might not be showing the full picture. If you want to know what's really going on, it's often best to go directly to the source. Vincent “Rocco” Vargas is an Army veteran and former Border Patrol agent who served three combat tours with the elite 75th Ranger Regiment. After leaving active duty, he joined the U.S. Border Patrol in 2009. In recent years, Vargas discovered passions for screenwriting and acting, landing a major role on FX's "Mayans M.C.". Today, Vargas continues serving in the Army Reserves as a Sergeant First Class. When not on duty, he runs Light the Fuse, Beteran, and enjoys staying active through Brazilian jiu-jitsu while being a dedicated husband and father to his eight children in Dallas, Texas. Key Takeaways: Border Patrol's Role: Border Patrol agents play a critical yet underappreciated role as patriotic defenders keeping America's borders secure and serving as the first line of defense against terrorist threats. Their importance for national security is immense. Reality vs Perception: There are major gaps between the reality of a Border Patrol agent's daily duties and life on the frontlines versus the public's perception shaped by misinformation and politicization. Vargas wrote his book to close these gaps. Policy Impacts: Flawed policies and incentives exacerbated the border crisis, overflowing resources and limiting agents' capabilities despite their best efforts. Resolving issues requires multilayered policy changes. Ranger Combat Tours: Vargas brings unique experience from serving three combat tours as a U.S. Army Ranger. This firsthand experience of being on the frontlines against terrorist threats shaped his perspective on defending America's borders. In this episode, we welcome Vincent “Rocco” Vargas to the show. He is a retired US Army Ranger (2nd Battalion of the 75 Ranger Regiment) and former Federal Agent with the Department of Homeland Security. He is also an entrepreneur, actor, writer, producer, and speaker. He is most known for his depiction of the character Gilly Lopez on the show Mayans M.C. (an offshoot of Sons of Anarchy). If you know of Black Rifle Coffee Company or watch Mayans MC on FX, you may already know this week's Borne the Battle guest – Army Veteran, entrepreneur, actor and overall entertainer Vincent Vargas. It was a windy road that led him to this point in his life. Too many wild parties got him kicked out of college and ended his childhood dream of playing professional baseball. At 20, as a young father who was no longer playing ball or attending school, Vargas felt like a disappointment to his family. In 2003, during the invasion of Baghdad at the outbreak of the Iraq War, Vargas watched a televised newscast in which a Marine helped to topple a statue of dictator Saddam Hussein. News reporters interviewed the Marine's family, who emotionally expressed their pride in his service. The next day, Vargas went to a military recruiting office to enlist. He later served in both Iraq and Afghanistan as an Army Ranger, became a drill sergeant, and after serving, even joined the U.S. Border Patrol. In this week's episode of Borne the Battle, Vincent Vargas discusses his many transitions between sports, military and civilian lives, getting into acting, his time on the Drinkin' Bros podcast, and the founding of Beteran, his Veteran-focused clothing line that emphasizes empowerment and positivity rather than the prevailing Veteran narratives of depression, alcoholism, and suicide.Borne the Battle Veteran of the Week: Army Veteran Ricardo Barraza Also Mentioned in this Episode: https://vincentroccovargas.com/ VETSmile pilot program to improve affordable dental care access for Veterans Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers to provide an additional year for eligibility and reassessment of certain participants

Vincent "Rocco" Vargas thought his life would be baseball. He was on the path to take a stab at the majors, but academic ineligibility while playing college ball pushed him in a different direction. Inspired by military service and seeking a way to provide a stable means of supporting his first child, Vargas enlisted in the Army in 2003. He knew he wanted the most challenging job possible in the military, and ultimately settled on becoming an Army Ranger. After 3 deployments with the 75th Ranger Regiment, experiencing combat and the highs and lows that come with it, Vargas decided to leave active duty to pursue a new chapter. He is now a working actor and writer. You can catch him regularly as "Gilly" on the FX show and "Sons of Anarchy" spinoff, "Mayans M.C.", along with other acting projects he has coming out. Official website: https://www.lawabidingbiker.com The FX Network released its first season of the new motorcycle club based series named "Myans M.C.". They ran 10 episodes the first season and the last one aired in early November 2018. Although this is somewhat of a spin-off series from the Sons of Anarchy motorcycle club based FX Series, it is also very different in many ways. In this podcast episode, we break the series down for you and what's it's all about. The big question will be whether, as a biker, you should invest the time to watch the Mayans M.C. series? We do a roundtable and each of us gives you our personal opinions to help answer that question. I will tell you that after being a watcher of the Sons Of Anarchy series, I wasn't that invested after watching the first 3 episodes of the Mayans M.C. But, by the 4th episode, things started to flow for me and I am now a definite watcher and look forward to seeing if they'll release season two in 2019! I think it's common to take several episodes for any new TV series for an audience to buy in and become routine watchers. ABOUT THE SHOW *Taken from the FX Network Website Mayans M.C. is the next chapter in Kurt Sutter’s award-winning Sons of Anarchy saga. Set in a post-Jax Teller world, Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes (JD Pardo) is fresh out of prison and a prospect in the Mayans M.C. charter on the Cali/Mexi border. Now, EZ must carve out his new identity in a town where he was once the golden boy with the American Dream in his grasp. The series also stars Clayton Cardenas, Edward James Olmos, Sarah Bolger, Michael Irby, Carla Baratta, Antonio Jaramillo, Raoul Max Trujillo, Richard Cabral, and Danny Pino. Recurring stars include Emilio Rivera, Frankie Loyal, Joseph Lucero, Vincent Rocco Vargas, Maurice Compte, Gino Vento, Tony Plana and Ada Maris. Mayans M.C.was co-created by Kurt Sutter and Elgin James. Norberto Barba directs the first two episodes. The series is executive produced by Sutter and Barba, with James as Co-Executive Producer. The 10-episode first season is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions. New Free Video Mentioned: Speed and Strength Black 9 Moto Shirt Review Sponsor-Ciro 3D CLICK HERE! This podcast makes me soooo happy. This dude is the real f'ing deal. I love it when good things happen to amazing people. I met Rocco at the GI Film Festival with Mat Best, Jarred Taylor and the rest of his Article 15/Youtube Star posse. They were showcasing their 1.2 million dollar crowd funded movie, "Range 15" to rave reviews. He's a real American Hero who served 3 combat deployments as a Ranger, then served as a Federal Agent, then became a youtube star, and now is about to become a TV star with a big pilot he's shooting this month. Oh, and he has 6 KIDS! Here's his official bio: Vincent “Rocco” Vargas was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, California. After several years of college baseball, Vincent enlisted in the US Army and went on to serve 3 combat deployments with 2nd Battalion of the elite 75th Ranger Regiment. After 4 years of active duty service to his country, he joined the U.S. Army Reserves and continue his service. In 2009 he became a Federal Agent with the Department of Homeland Security, and was a BORSTAR Agent with the Special Operations Group attached to BORTAC. Currently one of the owners of the Article 15 "Empire", Leadslingers Whiskey, Warfighter Tobacco and more. He is married and a father of 6 children and lives in Texas.
