Grief, adversity, and trauma are common, formative human experiences that people move through and grow from. Yet, we often avoid talking about this process, making it harder to understand how people make meaning from grief. Posttraumatic Growth (PTG) offers us a paradigm for how to make sense of hard experiences and move forward in ways that deepen our connections with ourselves and each other. In this episode, teens share their stories and we hear from Dr. Taryn Greene, a research psychologist who works with the Boulder Crest Foundation to study PTG.  Check out Boulder Crest's PTG story challenge, with opportunities to win funding to share your story. It is SO impressive what The Boulder Crest Foundation and The Boulder Crest Institute are doing for our Combat Veterans to help them heal from traumas. Their work is groundbreaking and it's working! The focus is on the teachings of posttraumatic growth. Ken Falke, Founder & Chairman of Boulder Crest, is a 21-year combat veteran of the U.S. Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) community and retired Master Chief Petty Officer. He believes there's no greater mission than helping Veterans, first responders, and their families rediscover hope, purpose, and a future that is truly worth living. It's his passion. He spends the majority of his time educating the public and private sectors on the issues surrounding the long-term care of our returning military personnel and their families from the last 20 years of war. Ken is excited about the breakthrough success he's seeing at Boulder Crest, and says this is the coolest thing he's ever worked on and he's worked on some pretty cool things. Ken is highly respected around the world as an innovative and forward-thinking leader on the subjects of wounded warrior care, military and veteran transition, counterterrorism, military training, and innovative technology development. I'm so honored to be able to shine a light on Ken Falke and Boulder Crest this Veterans Day and every day. To help transform 'struggle to strength', Boulder Crest offers 2 peaceful locations for struggling veterans to come spend a week, spend quality time, be embraced, understood and heal. One location is in Bluemont, VA and the other in Sonoita, Arizona. Plus they offer many other programs across the country where those who are struggling can get the quality help they need to find the path to a life worth living. Their efforts are working. The Boulder Crest locations feature things like ADA-accessible cabins with plenty of amenities for comfort and for families to join in. Therapeutic and recreational activities like equine, archery, art, music, labyrinth walks, and fishing. And optional organized group activities, like barbecues and bonfires, which create opportunities for guests to connect with, and draw strength from, one another in what they've coined as a 'warrior's paradise'. The Boulder Crest Institute, located in Bluemont VA,  serves as the hub for the development, delivery, study, and scaling of their groundbreaking, Posttraumatic Growth-based programs. The Institute led the development of the Warrior PATHH curriculum, which is now delivered in nine locations across the country: Boulder Crest Virginia, Boulder Crest Arizona, Boulder Crest's Mobile Training Team, and through partnerships in Florida (GratitudeAmerica), Georgia (Camp Southern Ground), South Carolina (Big Red Barn Retreat), Maine (Travis Mills Foundation), Arkansas (Sheep Dog Impact Assistance), and Washington State (Permission to Start Dreaming Foundation). The Institute is also currently leading programs in Miami, Florida and Tucson, Arizona, to integrate Struggle Well Training and Posttraumatic Growth into their police departments. This project is made possible by the support of the FirstNet by AT&T, the Gary Sinise Foundation, and the Community-Police Relations Foundation. Since the Institute's opening in January 2018, Boeing has been an invaluable strategic partner and supporter, enabling them to develop and deliver training on Posttraumatic Growth for the mental health community. Ken Falke and Boulder Crest Institute Co-Founder & Exec. Dir. Josh Goldberg, also co-authored a book that's taken the mental health world by storm. It's called "Struggle Well: Thriving in the Aftermath of Trauma."  It's changing the lives of Veterans, First Responders and anyone who's been worn down by 'struggling'.  "Struggle" the authors say, "is the story of every great leader, every great man, and every great woman. Through encountering obstacles, heroes are tested and forged into becoming the great, authentic human beings they are destined to be." I love this quote on their website:  " It's time to learn how to struggle well. Because struggle is a terrible thing to waste." Ken Falke and Josh Goldberg, the authors of Struggle Well, have trained more than 40,000 people in the principles and practices of how to Struggle Well. Boulder Crest Foundation is doing amazing work and would love your support. Here's where you can find out more about them and donate. And if you want to meet a real hero please take a few minutes to meet Ken Falke, Founder & Chairman Boulder Crest Foundation, in this warm podcast conversation from The Debbie Nigro Show.  The world is a better place because of people like Ken Falke.

Camaraderie comes in many forms, from combat deployment to live-fire ranges, or field exercises. To ruck marches to morning PT sessions and back-to-back hour-long death by Powerpoint mandatory annual training. Service members almost always had a battle buddy there soldiering through it together. But, civilian life is much different and for some of us, the loneliness and lack of connectivity with others make even the most mundane aspects of life sometimes hard to bear. That is why there are many on this side of the DD-214 who have dedicated themselves to walking side-by-side with veterans through thick and thin, ready to encourage and help bring restoration to our warrior spirit. Lenora Turner interviews Ken Falke, 21 year Navy veteran, entrepreneur, author of Struggle Well and founder of Bouldercrest.org. Many are familiar with PTSD and the intense challenges that can follow the aftermath of trauma but too few know of the hope that can be found in Post Traumatic Growth. After extensive research and disappointing data on the mental health treatments for PTSD, Ken came upon the research of Dr. Rich Tadeschi and Post Traumatic Growth. From there he began a partnership to document and scale what has been discovered through those who've gone on to thrive after trauma. Boulder Crest foundation locations in Virginia and Arizona have been the proving ground to test and improve the program and now Bouldercrest Institute can equip others in the methodology to scale this effective program to countless other locations. The interview and conversation is honest and brings awareness to the low percentage of success until this proven program approach. You'll want to get the book "Struggle Well" and share this information with veterans and first responders struggling with PTS or PTSD.Visit Bouldercrest.org for more information and to discover new hope for a future where individuals and their families can learn to thrive after trauma. This video is from "3Ps In A Pod" Episode 10, a podcast hosted by Lenora, daughter of a Korean War veteran and program Director for youth and veterans at a Fortune 500 company. Partner marketing focuses on communicating value to, with and through resellers, distributors, alliance partners, agents and other third-type companies to help market and promote your organization. No matter what you offer, when it comes to partner marketing, there are two important questions that all parties need to answer: What's in it for them and why should they care? In this week's episode of The Brand Ambassadors, Merritt and Gary welcome Boulder Crest and EOD Warrior Foundation chairman and founder Kenneth Falke and Leon Tackitt, owner of Tackitt Family Vineyards. As retired Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians, Ken and Leon have a passion for helping fellow combat veterans and their families deal with the issues surrounding long-term care and emotional support of returning military personnel and their families from the last 16 years of war. They will discuss how partnering their very different companies has increased brand awareness of both organizations.

Boulder Crest Retreat, a wellness center for veterans, provides healing through gardening and other activities.Boulder Crest Retreat is the nation's first privately-funded rural wellness center dedicated exclusively to our nation's combat veterans and their families. The organization is committed to improving the physical, emotional, spiritual and economic well-being of this remarkable community of heroes, and ensuring they have the opportunity to succeed in their new mission -- a life of passion, purpose and service -- here at home. One of the ways Boulder Crest provides healing is through gardening.Veterans and their family members are able to walk the grounds, get their hands dirty, pick fresh produce, or even just reflect and meditate. For some families, this is the first time they've been able to pick food fresh from the garden. All cabins are equipped with a kitchen so they can cook what they've just harvested. There is also a chef on staff who is able to help with questions, recipe ideas, etc. The retreat has had people come from as far as Hawaii and Alaska. Other independent organizations often donate frequent flier miles. There are also a variety of activities available, including kayaking, fly fishing, equine therapy, trail walking, horticulture therapy, and a rock wall for those who are physically able. The community has been incredibly supportive of the mission of Boulder Crest.Julia Falke, who created Boulder Crest Retreat with her husband, Ken, joins Andrea and Lisa to share more about the organization and the great work its doing for our veterans.
