This episode includes Dancing the Tightrope Chapters Fourteen Commitment and Fifteen Curiosity. These are the first two of five chapters in the book outlining the building blocks of self-awareness. If you have listened this far, you have certainly heard me talk about the value of these inner “tools.” I decided to highlight the five building blocks of self-awareness at this stage of my story, because I found myself not always showing up in pressure situations the way I would have liked to. It was clear to me that sometimes I could reach for my tools, and other times I had to reach for my rules. Awareness was the difference, but there was something more. For several weeks, I became more and more aware of my awareness. It was through this focused attention that I began to see that I “fell off” at different points. Sometimes it was at the level of being committed. Sometimes it was lack of curiosity, or one of the other three layers, which I dive into in the chapters to follow. I revisit the lessons in these five chapters over and again, because they help me fine tune my awareness when I get off track – and the nature of the game is not being perfect all the time. It's about having lots of ways of getting back on track. Speaking of curiosity, this podcast was created because of my budding curiosity to have a different kind of conversation, and you will hear about one of my early podcast guests Warwick Schiller, who has also been on a journey of self-discovery. Chapter fifteen has a special surprise in it.
On today's episode Equiteam's Liz Daniels is thrilled to be joined by equestrian trainer, author, podcaster, National Reining Reserve World Champion, and creator of the Attuned Horsemanship training programme, Warwick Schiller. Australian-born Warwick shares his fascinating journey from Pony Club and riding Quarter Horses, to changing his thoughts of being a bull rider, his move to America and how ice baths have been an important part of his journey (and a cheaper way of boosting dopamine!). Warwick shares how mindset coaching helped him pull out a PB at the World Equestrian Games, leading him to be the most relaxed he has ever been in a competitive environment, and why it led to him realising that he had been competing for the wrong reasons. Warwick has a real passion and gift for equine psychology and training horses and a desire to share his knowledge with the equestrian world.
In this episode of Equine Assisted World, Rupert Isaacson sits down with Warwick Schiller, renowned horseman and creator of Attuned Horsemanship. Warwick is widely recognized for his transformative approach to horse training, which focuses on attunement, connection, and creating a sense of safety for the horse. Through his Journey On Podcast and extensive teaching, Warwick has helped thousands of riders and trainers understand the deeper layers of horsemanship and how true awareness changes everything.Together, Rupert and Warwick explore the concept of attunement—how being truly present and aware influences both horses and people. They discuss how small, subtle shifts in attention can have profound effects on behavior, trust, and emotional regulation. They also dive into sleep deprivation in horses, the power of following rather than controlling, and what it really means to develop a deep partnership with an equine partner. What You'll Learn in This Episode:Understanding Attunement and Connection (Starts at 02:20)The definition of attunement and why it matters in horsemanship. How attunement applies to both horses and people.Warwick's journey to understanding deep connection. The Role of Awareness in Building Trust (Starts at 16:10)The difference between “trusting you won't hurt me” and “trusting your awareness to keep me safe.”How observing small signals from your horse builds trust over time. The science behind attunement and safety in mammals. The Power of Giving Up Control (Starts at 36:27)Why giving up control doesn't mean losing control. How allowing horses to make choices increases connection.Exercises for developing attunement by matching steps and mirroring behavior. How Sleep Deprivation Affects Horses (Starts at 56:10)Why some horses struggle with sleep deprivation and what it means. How Warwick accidentally helped a sleep-deprived horse by simply listening. The connection between feeling safe and being able to sleep.Integrating Attunement into Riding and Training (Starts at 1:14:22)Why training should be about awareness, not just technique. The role of breath and relaxation in riding. How to ensure your horse is mentally and emotionally present before asking for movement.Practical Tools for Creating Attunement in Everyday Training (Starts at 1:36:27)Simple ways to start building attunement today. The “look where they look” technique and why it's so powerful. How mirroring movement builds trust and awareness.Memorable Moments from the Episode:The story of the Mustang who overcame bolting through attunement (12:03).How giving a horse space to “say no” transformed its willingness (45:36).The unexpected link between sleep deprivation and emotional regulation in horses (1:04:00).The revelation that attunement and safety go hand in hand (1:42:38).Why trust is built on recognizing and repairing ruptures in connection (1:44:17).Connect with Warwick Schiller:

In today's episode, we're discussing what "Relationship before Horsemanship" really looks like with Warwick Schiller and how this applies to ALL beings (not just horses). We also discuss what unraveling and shattering long-held truths can look like, the importance of validation in all of our interactions, why extending grace to animals seems to come easier for us than to our fellow humans, and much more. In this episode, we cover:A pivotal experience that led to Warwick's focus on relationship before horsemanshipHow working with horses started Warwick's journey of unraveling and the role his podcast plays in showing the unraveling of our cultural and societal conditioningsWays to support horses with nervous system regulation using connection and how this applies to people, tooHow we are in charge of creating our own reality and how we choose to interact with any type of being (human or animal)Why it seems easier for us to extend grace to our animals rather than to our fellow humansThe concept of waiting vs. doing when working with horses and why the nervous system isn't meant to be calm all the timeWhy attachment and attunement are what humans need most but are also most lacking Connect with Warwick:Follow on Instagram and FacebookCheck out his YouTubeListen to The Journey on PodcastCheck out his website and online video library Make sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode! Today's episode is inspired by a book that I recently finished reading, ‘The Principles of Training' by Warwick Schiller. He has 12 different principles about training your horse, but they're actually applicable across the board - just like good movement! The specific training we're discussing today is what it looks like to create a tool before you need to use it.In today's episode, I talk about creating the tools before you need them and how to go about building emotional resilience and communication. Similar to horses, humans need to create tools that will lead to effective communication and emotional regulation. Essentially, we need to have these tools established BEFORE we use them.In this episode, I cover:The importance of asking honest questions + why we first need to do this when the stakes are ‘low'Why breathing is a powerful tool to help us regulate our nervous systems in stressful situations + simple techniques to tryTaking a deliberate, intentional pause before responding in a high-stress, high-emotion situationHow body awareness and grounding can help during tense and ‘heated' momentsMake sure to hit subscribe/follow so you never miss an episode!Find the complete show notes here: https://terryndrieling.com/building-emotional-resilience-and-communicationConnect with Terryn:Follow on Instagram @terryn.drielingCheck out my websiteSend me an email at terryn@terryndrieling.comResources & Links:The Principles of Training by Warwick Schiller [affiliate link]M Well the Podcast with Ashley Machado: Three Breathing Exercises to Help with StressJoin the waitlist for the Good Movement CollectiveGood Movement music by: Aaron EspePodcast produced by: Jill Carr PodcastingSome links referenced above are affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. The Journey On Podcast and Summits have become something of a legend in conscious equestrian circles - and rightly so. Anyone who has tuned in to the vast array of talent that Warwick features in his in depth interviews ends up walking away with insights into themselves as well as into horses and how they interact with and assist humans, both in the practical and mental/spiritual realms. To those still new to Warwick, an Australian-born champion in the Western discipline of Reining, he made it to the World Equestrian Games before a pro-fund relationship with a particular horse changed his whole outlook on the horse and human relationship. What followed was a journey of self discovery that has led to exploration of therapy, neuroscience, psychadelics and shamanism as well as ever deeper dives into the horse and human interface. Recently returning from his latest challenge, the 500 mile Gaucho Derby in Argentina, Warwick tells us how it bumped him up against some of his own limitations - and how he got through to the other side. Also we look at the upcoming Journey On Summit in Birmingham UK, happening August 1-4 2024, who the fascinating array of speakers are and what they have taught him so far. So, for those equine Assisted peeps out there, sit back and enjoy the listen as Warwick guides us further into how and why the outside of a horse is so good for the inside of a human.Register to the UK Summit now: https://summit.warwickschiller.com/?aff=RupertIsaacsonFind Warwick's Programs online: Horse Training Website: https://go.warwickschiller.com/membership-signupPodcast: https://warwickschiller.com/podcast/Journey on Summits 2024 in UK and USA https://summit.warwickschiller.com/?aff=RupertIsaacsonFind our other shows and programs:https://rupertisaacson.com

Each panelist emphasize on understanding the human mindset and how it aligns with liberty training can greatly impact the success of the practice. The psychological approach to liberty training also included discussions around essential aspects such as being present, regulating energy, and self-awareness, displaying broader implications for self-improvement and individual growth.
New Zealand Horse advocate and author, Julie Smart joins Barbara O'Brien in a conversation not just about training, but about retraining ourselves to listen, to watch, and to feel the subtle cues that horses give us when trying to communicate. We talk about how spending undemanding time with our horses changes how they feel about and us and can really help build a better, more trusting relationship. We also talk about how horses never stop learning and can be trained at any age with atunement and understanding. Julie recommends books like 'True Horsemanship Through Feel' by Bill Dorrance and Leslie Desmond, and 'Warwick Schiller's Principles of Training'. Julie shares her biggest failure, which involved a horse named Ethel, and how it taught her the importance of not believing what others say about horsemanship. They also talk about fear and the need to acknowledge and respect it, as well as the luckiest thing that has happened to Julie, which is having her mother as a role model.https://www.empathetic-trainer.com/
A lifelong equestrian, Warwick initially focused his competitive efforts on reining, eventually becoming an NRHA (National Reining Horse Association) Reserve World Champion and representing Australia at the 2010 & 2018 World Equestrian games. Along the way, Warwick not only discovered a passion and a talent for teaching, but he also became aware of a consuming curiosity about how things can be done differently. For the past 13 has been sharing knowledge in his online video library, social media and his Youtube Channel, which has amassed over 27 million views. A chance encounter with a horse 7 years ago that shifted his perspective on horses and life a complete 180 degrees, he is now excited about teaching connection and relationship based interactions and training with horses. An offshoot of that caused him to start The Journey On Podcast, where he interviews amazing people from around the world and learns about the path that led them to a perspective that may fall outside of our cultural and societal conditioning. The Journey On Podcast has amassed over 3 million downs and has spawned an annual Live Podcast Summit event on 3 continents.Warwick is also the author of The Principles Of Training, which has been an Amazon best selling book in the Equine category.Warwick's Book:The Principles of Training: Understanding The Relationship Between You and Your Horse, and Why Effective Training Works.Connect with Warwick Schiller:YouTubeFacebookwww.warwickschiller.comSend us a message. My guest for this episode of the Creative Spirits Unleashed podcast is Laurie Kaplan. I reached out to Laurie to be on the podcast after hearing her talk about her experience of the Gaucho Derby on the Greg and Dan Show in Peoria Illinois. The Gaucho Derby is a 500 km adventure race through Patagonia, and it's billed as the world's toughest horse race. That's an understatement. Three of my former podcast guests were involved in the Derby, Kansas Carradine, Stevie Delahunt and Warwick Schiller, so I was paying attention to their adventures as well. In this podcast, Laurie shares her epic moments. Some were high notes and there were plenty of low notes as well. As we spoke, it's almost as if she were reliving many of the moments, which you will hear. Listen to the whole thing, because at the end, you will hear how she puts it all together, when I ask her: What would the Laurie of today tell the Laurie that decided in August 2022 to do the race. Her answer moved me to tears. Here's what Laurie has to say about herself: Laurie is a free spirit who seeks living at a deeper level in the many things that she pursues. Whether it is raising her 2 boys who are both successfully off at university, riding horses, caring for her farm, rocking out on her drums and guiding others to their epigenetically best life. She recently experienced the Gaucho Derby in Patagonia, Argentina and is still processing the profound expansion this is opening for her.I hope you enjoy this podcast with Laurie Kaplan and as always, please share this episode with your colleagues and friends. Warwick shares his endless pursuit of understanding horses combined with a compassion towards horse enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. You may know Warwick as the host of the industry favorite Journey On Podcast with a Mission to Change Yourself to Change Your Horse or as the organizer of the one-of-a-kind Journey On Summit that aims to improve horse-human relationships mostly by improving the humans themselves. My guest for this episode of the podcast is JP Dyal. We met at Warwick Schiller's Journey on Podcast Summit last year in San Antonio. JP answers one of the questions that has hovered over me of late: Can someone who didn't grow up with horses become a true horseman? As you might guess, I have this question for myself. He embodies the answer to that question, as you will hear in this episode. Not only is he a true horseman, he shows all of us just how the dark episodes of our lives are the gateway to finding our path. Here's some more information about JP Dyal:JP Dyal is not your typical horseman. He grew up in the Florida Keys and was a corporate executive until he lost everything. It was then his life was saved by a horse. While JP has competed in many different disciplines, his true gift and passion is transforming the lives of horses and their people by combining his leadership development experience along with his soft and light style of horsemanship. With his corporate background and focus on leadership, we had a lot of common ground in this conversation.Contact Info:HeartoftheHorseonline.comJPDyalHorsemanship.comFacebook Profile: JP DYal HorsemanshipFacebook Page: Heart of the Horse with JP & LisaFacebook Group: Heart of the HorseEmail: jp@HeartoftheHorseOnline.com
Have you ever noticed how one thing leads to another, then leads to another and so on? This episode came about because I fell off a horse and found Warwick Schiller, who teaches people about horses on Facebook. Except he's really all about personal transformation. He was a guest on this podcast in May 2020, and then I was a guest on his podcast September 2021. In that episode, I told a story about a pivotal moment in daughter Jen's addiction journey. Fast forward to the summer of 2022, I get a message on Instagram from a woman in Los Angeles who had listened to that podcast and described how moved she was by that story. In early November, 2022 I went to Warwick's Journey On Podcast Summit in San Antonio, where he gathered many of his prior podcast guests to share their wisdom in person. One of those podcast guests, who was not a scheduled presenter, was Christine Dickson. Now here's where it gets interesting. I had listened to Warwick's podcast with Christine in August and really connected with her approach and her wisdom and her wit. I was thrilled to see that she was at the Summit as well. At the first break, she came to introduce herself and guess what? She was the Christine from Los Angeles that had reached out to me on Instagram in the summer. We connected in person as well as we did by Instagram, and the next step was a no brainer. I had to have her on my podcast. We started this conversation with the topic of transformation. She has a story about her own transformation that both inspired me and reminded me that we are one choice away from the inner freedom we crave. This conversation is one I will want to listen to more than once and I suspect you will too. Here's a little bit about Christine: Christine Dickson is a Transformational Mentor, Clinical Hypnotherapist, and Equine Assisted Coach. She works with people to map out their vision and reframe their limiting belief systems to create radical shifts in their lives. She has a solid background in working with people moving away from addiction and co-dependence and supporting their quest to align with their life purpose. Her ideal client is a fellow traveler who has come to a crossroads and dares to pursue a more purposeful life. A self-described “Late Bloomer”, she travelled a slow but steady path to rewrite her subconscious conditioning and take responsibility for her own life. By becoming more self-aware and intentional she was able propel herself into taking meaningful action that changed the course of her life. Now, she helps others do the same. What does your heart long to bring forth into the world? When that small inner voice whispers to you what you know to be true, do you listen? By the way, while she was not a scheduled presenter at the Podcast Summit, on Saturday, Robyn Schiller asked her to close out the Summit on Sunday afternoon. Christine tells the story of how she decided to say yes -and that story is for anyone who has ever experienced a moment of self-doubt and wanted to find a more empowering way to approach challenges. If you listen to the podcast regularly, you'll know that I was recently in Texas as part of Warwick Schiller's Journey On Podcast Summit. The summit itself was a mindblowing experience in every way, and I'm yet to adequately find the words for my experience there. I definitely didn't come out of it the same person I was going in. I wanted to chat about my time there from the position of a presenter, but it didn't feel right to do that alone... so I've brought in some of my favourite people to do it with me! Today I am joined by Robyn Schiller, Kathy Price and Christine Dickson, incredible individuals in their own right and each a key part of my own summit adventures. We chatter about how the idea for the summit came about, our thoughts leading up to it, and of course, how things played out over the course of the actual summit. I hope you enjoy it! This episode I ask that question. Do I have the answer? No I'm not sure and don't have science but I have suggestions to tone the vagus nerve and your nervous system in case they can get in the way of our intuition. Worst case scenario you get some tools to help with stress. Best case scenario you are able to hear and act on your intuition more easily. I'm very excited to announce an interview with Dr Sam fieldingI recently came across Sam on a Warwick Schiller podcast were she was a guest. It's no secret that I'm a big fan of his podcast because of the insight and knowledge that is shared to everyone who listens, not only to help our horses but to help ourselves too.I was so struck by Sam that I sent her a private message saying thank you for sharing her story.I hope you enjoy listening to this very vibrant and interesting lady who wants to shares with us, a little insight into her fascinating world. So sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy this episode.Bio:Dr Sam is an Ivy league educated Dr of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. Growing up in a family of orthopedic surgeons, she found her way to acupuncture, through her life long passion for horses. Growing up in Maryland, Sam rode hunters, jumpers, and event horses as well as worked professionally for steeplechase and timber racehorse trainers. All she wanted to do was to ride professionally, but with zero support from her family in a career as a pro rider, she chose to go to vet school instead. As life will do, she quickly realized that being a vet wasn't the life for her, and began a decades long journey of “following the crumbs” to a life that she could never have imagined. From a horse obsessed kid straight out of college, to a becoming a professional skier in 5 years from a pretty mediocre beginner, the love of the amazing rides she chased in her youth, became a life filled with following her bliss, in whatever life provided. And that meant over two decades away from horses full time. After a debilitating struggle with PPD, after the birth of her first daughter, struggling from suicide, she found her way back to a life she thought she'd never experience again with the help of horses. It has become her life's work to share her understanding of how we shape the worlds we live in through the power of our minds. And firmly believes that all lovers of horses share a unique gift in our connection to horses. She shares her perspective on the power of our connection to horses and its purpose to help us heal as individual humans, and from there expand our compassion to help heal not only our communities, but also heal the world. “It all starts with each of us, in our own minds - Dr Samhttps://www.drsamfielding.comhttps://www.facebook.com/DrsamfieldingInterview; video versionhttps://www.facebook.com/equinevoices.co.ukhttps://youtu.be/Nc1cubEEJa4 Support the show

My guest for this episode is Robyn Schiller. It was two years ago that I reached out to her husband Warwick Schiller to be a guest on my podcast. He's a very well-known horse trainer with an extensive video subscription library. Then, a year ago, I got to meet Robyn (and Warwick in person) at the Cactus Reining Classic. We visited after I had gotten to see Robyn ride her reining horse in the show. She mentioned that she used to be in the corporate world, in Human Resources, which definitely made me very interested to talk to her. I invited Robyn on the podcast because there is always more to success than meets the eye – whether we are talking about her performance in the arena, or in the business that she and Warwick run together. Robyn is the behind-the-scenes force that get things done in their business. Soon, she will also be offering her wisdom alongside Warwick at a clinic they are doing in Australia titled Resolving Anxiety in Horses and Humans Masterclass. She previewed some of what she will be teaching in this podcast, especially about how our survival brain can get activated and what we can do about that. One of the themes of this conversation was making the unseen visible to others. The magic is often in understanding that behind the slick surface, there is always more than meets the eye. Our conversation ranged among many topics, dancing between horses and humans and especially what we have in common and what we can learn from each other. There is so much wisdom in this podcast – especially at the end – and if you come away with nothing else, you will learn how it's the little things that add up to the big things. A Quiet Moment In The Darkness.I often record my little short podcasts on my phone when I'm out because they're usually made in the spur of the moment and and my phone is always at hand. This was one of those times, just as it was getting dark, I was deep in thought after listening to a wonderful soul called Nahshon Cook on one of his live posts that he makes on his fb page.If you've never heard of Nahshon check out Warwick Schiller's "The Journey On Podcast"episode: 19 to listen to this amazing young man. There are so many wonderful people on his podcasts with amazing life stories.Nahshon Cook is most definitely one of those people.Regards Ronnie https://www.warwickschiller.com/podcast/https://www.facebook.com/NahshonCookHorsemanship Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/equinevoices)

In this episode, you'll meet Warwick Schiller from Hollister, California. Warwick is passionate about teaching riders in all disciplines to become the best partner possible with their horse. Warwick's YouTube Channel alone has over 20 million views. It is my honor to call Warwick my friend. He has impacted my life because he freely shares his wisdom about horses and openly shares how he continues to grow personally on his journey with both horses and people. At the end of this episode, I think you'll agree that hearing Warwick speak about connection with horses - and his life - is a treat. Since beginning his Youtube channel in 2011, Australian-born Warwick Schiller has become a popular worldwide horse training educator. With a background in the high-performance equestrian sport of Reining, competing at 2 World Equestrian Games, Warwick's primary goal is to educate horse owners of every discipline. He is excited to show people how easy it is to effectively communicate with their horse and create deep, authentic relationships that result in a relaxed, connected, and present horse and human. He does this through his online video library, Youtube videos, and Journey On Podcast.
Interview with Warwick Schiller. I was so excited for this wonderful opportunity to interview Warwick Schiller. I've been a fan of Warwicks for a while now so when he agreed to do an interview I was beyond excited. Yes he is a very famous horse trainer, Clinician, coach, podcaster and so much more but my excitement comes from the the knowledge that he shares, from both sides of the coin, about the changes he has made in his life that came from working with the horses but has grown into so much more.I hope you”ll enjoy this interview and discover a little bit more about Warwick and his life experiences through his own words. My intuition didn't let me down and neither did Warwick. So sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did making it. Warwick's Story:A lifelong equestrian of varying disciplines, Warwick Schiller moved from his home country of Australia in his 20s to the United States in order to pursue his dream of training horses. His work revolves around helping those who believe in what he is doing and getting them to join along for the ride. It's life-long, and passion-driven work. It involves horses and horse-people and community and support… positive support. A tribe if you will, but one that is focused and has goals and is open to making mistakes and learning from those mistakes together, to become better, for their horses, for their goals and for each other.Currently, Warwick is focusing on expanding his knowledge by spending more time with other trainers who allow him to ask his pointed questions as he works hard to garner a better understanding of their individual methods and philosophies. He and Robyn are on an epic journey of their own, once again qualifying for, and competing in, the 2018 World Equestrian Games. Several books are in the near future and a very exciting structured online course of the Principles of Training has been released. Look for him at Horse Expos around the world as a presenter, as a motivational speaker at varying seminars, on Farm & Ranch TV and on Horse and Country T.V. – he'll be the one telling a great story, listening closely to the horse, and working his tail off to be a better coach, trainer, husband, dad and person of the world. Robyn will be right there with him being the talented force of nature she is, and supporting the people surrounding them – all on their own journeys to being the best horse-people they can be.https://www.warwickschiller.com/https://www.facebook.com/Warwickschillerfanpagehttps://youtu.be/sDPmDxpv_Ag
More on our discussion on competition and your purpose in doing so. What is your purpose in doing so and how do you use that purpose to hurt or help you progress in competition? One of the discussions is about how Warwick and his wife competed in the World Equestrian Games and reached one of their highest scores of their careers.
Warwick Schiller is not only a great horseman with a lifetime of experience training horses but also has a lifetime of experience as a competitor in reining and a communicator in training people. Being a horse trainer at the competitive level requires a very well rounded individual because most often you are not only the physical labor that trains the horse but you are also the one who trains the rider to ride the horse. To do this job with any level of success requires you to be proficient with horses, people, marking, advertising, service, budgeting and communication. That is where having a wife that is invested in your business helps. Warwick is skilled in all of these areas and he gives us an insight into his journey and some of what he has learned along the way We had a great talk with Warwick Schiller about horses and understanding horses better helps us understand people better. We also in this episode talk about the difficulties of the showmen and having the correct mindset. Enjoy!
It was great to speak to Warwick about his early days in reining competition and the events in his life that caused him to look at things differently. Warwick is very much into helping horses by educating people to be more aware of how they think and perceive the world and the situation they find themselves in. I really enjoyed our chat and love the direction he has chosen to travel as he works on building his own knowledge and sharing it with the world. Warwick's Website: www.warwickschiller.com
I spoke with Jessica White Plume twice actually July 22 and 26, 2021 because I wanted to include some information about what she does in the podcast. I heard about Jessica on another podcast The Journey On podcast with Warwick Schiller and what she does drew me to her. I hope you enjoy her insights about her work, life growing up and how intuition has taken her places and helped her be a trailblazer literally. BioJessica White Plume's Lakota name is Sung Agli Win, which means “She Brings Back The Horses”. She was raised on the Pine Ridge Reservation in SD. Since completing her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and Masters in Public Health, her work has focused on cultural and community based ways of healing and health in indigenous communities. Horse culture programs are her spiritual calling and passion, and her primary focus is reconnecting indigenous youth to culture and wellness through relationship with horses. Her current work for the South Segment of the MHA Nation also includes community gardens, orchards, honeybees, and sustainable round homes. She lives in Twin Buttes ND with her husband, children, and horses.
In our final instalment of our conversation with Warwick Schiller, Warwick digs in to what it looks like to develop a relationship with our horses and the differentiation of the skills required to allow the relationship to work. Better Horses Radio NATIONAL featuring special guest interviews from Pastor Steve Stafford, Dr. Lori Beard, Warwick Schiller, and Dr. Karl Frees.
In this episode, Jec talks with Robin Foster, a certified applied animal behaviorist and a professor at the University of Puget Sound in Washington State. Foster cites an interesting study on grooming by Lea Lansade, a researcher in France. There is a broad range of grooming concerns among us. Myself, I put almost no effort into grooming. I might brush where the saddle goes. Or instead, I might run my hand over that area. I check their feet and pick out any pebble that might have wedged into the frog area. Sometimes I might spray them with bug spray. But mostly I saddle up and go. I have seen that grooming, especially when it's done after trailering somewhere and before a ride, has the effect of getting a horse pretty antsy. There are a lot of things we humans do, from even before we collect them in the paddock to when we ultimately ride that amounts to what Warwick Schiller would call 13 Rabbits. Check out his Best Horse Practices Summit presentation on that here. Fellow BHPS presenter, Amy Skinner, calls it trigger stacking. It's the piling on of stressors that sometimes results in a bit of a cluster. We thank Pharm Aloe Equine and Lucerne Farms for their continued support. Pharm Aloe offers aloe pellets and gel and other products to support horses' GI health, immune system, and other processes. Lucerne Farms is a forage company based in northern Maine. Lucerne has an array of products, with timothy or alfalfa or timothy and alfalfa, with a touch of molasses, or not, for feeding your horses. Feeding forage is wwaayy better than feeding grain. That's research-supported. A little interview review: Yay for ground tying. And yes, don't trim those whiskers (which by the way are known as vibrissae and as Jec mentioned, are individual nerve conductors which send information to the brain about things like the texture and condition of what they come in contact with). Read more here. And yes, if the haltering or taking out of the paddock or tying are things that stress the horse, then perhaps do something that will help your horse relax instead of forging ahead. Remember, the forging ahead is itself a human construct that horses don't necessarily relate to. There are a lot of things to consider when we interact with equines. The balance between being mindful of our impact on them and then actually getting stuff done – riding and what not, is something we waver over all the time. It's good to hear folks articulate the variables and maybe this'll spur some conversations. We would like to thank Redmond Equine, Kate's Real Food and Patagonia WorkWear for their continuing support. Please follow these brands and buy their stuff as they support us and what we're doing. This month, we're giving away a Patagonia WorkWear item to two lucky listeners. Check it out here. Thanks for listening y'all!

I spent a whole lot of this amazing conversation for the Whole Horse Podcast with Nahshon Cook with tears in my eyes, and a big goofy smile on my face. After listening to his podcast with Warwick Schiller (go have a listen here), I was over the moon to be able to have this chat about horses, spirituality, teaching, growing, playing and much much more. As he shares in the podcast, Nahshon passes for a horse trainer, but he is truly a conduit and a channel, and brings words and wisdom to the horse-human connection beyond what I have ever heard. So much beauty and grace in this conversation and in this incredible horseman. Enjoy. Nahshon Cook is a classically trained horse trainer who focuses on horsemanship, classical dressage and understanding the language of the horse. His current training interests lay in rehabilitating inconvenient horses with significant mental, physical and emotional training related trauma. His lives and works on his family's farm in Parker, Colorado. Really enjoyed this far-ranging conversation with Warwick Schiller of Warwick Schiller Performance Horsemanship! In this Whole Horse Podcast episode Warwick opened up about his self growth journey over the past four years, what caused such a potent shift (hint: there was a horse or two involved!), what this process has looked like for him, what resources and exercises have been most helpful, how this process has impacted the horses in his world, and where he's headed next. Hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did! A lifelong equestrian of varying disciplines, Warwick Schiller moved from his home country of Australia in his 20s to the United States in order to pursue his dream of training horses. He focused his competitive efforts on reining, eventually becoming an NRHA (National Reining Horse Association) Reserve World Champion and also representing Australia at the 2010 & 2018 World Equestrian Games. His unique ability to convey his knowledge to others became apparent when he successfully went on to coach individuals who garnered coveted reining titles such as NRHA World Champions, NRHA Rookie of the Year, Australian Champions, U.S. Champions and a fellow WEG team member. Warwick Schiller is a world-renowned Australian horseman, who is as passionate about mental health as he is about horses. Warwick very graciously gave me his time recently, to share his insights from a male perspective on challenges, attitude and mental health. As part of ‘Movember' in Australia, I'm very grateful to Warwick for sharing his experiences with me this month. With 20 million views on his YouTube channel, he is certainly someone well worth listening to!
I am honoured to share with you a wonderful conversation that dives deep into our ability to show up in life and for our horses recognizing the role awareness plays in all of our relationships. Beth Killough and I speak passionately about our natural leadership as humans. Beth teaches her clients how to stabilize their own leadership and how to build healthier herds with each other. We speak about her keyed terms The Human Element and Human Animals in connection with our ability to lead, as well as her four channels of awareness. If you are a mom, please listen to this episode until the end, both Beth and I have a moment as we discuss our personal connections to awareness and awareness fatigue as a mother. This conversation is open, honest, and vulnerable and is a must listen!Links Mentioned:https://www.thecircleupexperience.com/https://www.instagram.com/thecircleupexperiencehttps://www.facebook.com/thecircleupexperienceFollow me online @:https://nikkiporter.ca/https://www.instagram.com/nikkiportercoaching/https://www.facebook.com/nikkiporterauthor/Purchase The Conscious Communicator online @:https://www.balboapress.com/en/bookstore/bookdetails/772389-the-conscious-communicatorhttps://www.amazon.ca/Conscious-Communicator-Connection-Inspired-Horsemanship/dp/1982217375/ref=sr_1_1?crid=SL8DE7C6AJ2B&keywords=nikki+porter&qid=1574711772&sprefix=Nikki+Po%2Caps%2C203&sr=8-1https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/books/the-conscious-communicator-the-pursuit/9781982217372-item.html?ikwid=Nikki+Porter&ikwsec=Home&ikwidx=0

Jec and Warwick discuss the popular Australian's evolution as a clinician and trainer and how Warwick is open to all sorts of influences which will benefit his horsemanship. Also included, another Exercise of the Week with Jec.
I spoke with Robyn Schiller on July 27, 2020. It was a delight to speak with Robyn and learn more about the person behind the scenes yet so involved with Warwick Schiller Performance Horsemanship. Robyn spoke about intuition showing up in the HR world, in their business and as a parent and putting all the pieces together and do the next thing. I'm excited to share our chat with you. BioRobyn Schiller has been riding horses since before she could walk. It only made sense to marry a horse trainer, since she decided early in her 20’s that a life without horses was not an option. Married to Australian, Warwick Schiller, Robyn spent the first 20 years of their marriage working corporate HR jobs and riding on the side. When Warwick’s YouTube and Subscription Video Library business took off, she left the corporate world to support the family business. Now the two, along with their son Tyler, who has a BS in Business Administration from the University of San Diego, run Warwick Schiller Performance Horsemanship and travel all over the world teaching people how to have better relationships with their horses. An NRHA (National Reining Horse Association) World Champion and 2018 World Equestrian Games Australian Reining Team member, Robyn still competes in the sport of reining. “I think what’s changed now is that I put the horse before the sport and I’ve adjusted my goals when I step into the show ring from winning, to having fun and doing the best we can on that given day.”
This episode of The Ride brings you an interview with Australian clinician and reiner Warwick Schiller. He's an NRHA reserve world champion and represented Australia at the 2010 and 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games. He solves horse problems by changing the rider's perspective. Listen to this episode to learn more about Warwick. Find his clinics, books, and videos at warwickschiller.com. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Every now and then, you find someone who pierces through the noise of all the people vying for our attention with a message that is so clear and compelling, you just have to stop and listen. I found that person a few years ago in Warwick Schiller. Yes, in his videos he was talking about horses. But lots of people are on the internet talking about horses.Warwick is different. He’s really talking about listening, presence and being. He’s sharing his personal transformation. Moreover, he’s not just talking – he’s showing and embodying something invisible that creates a change. That’s what made me reach out to him for this conversation. Most of the conversations on this podcast are with people I know. Most of the people who invite Warwick on their podcast are people who make a living in the horse world. This conversation would be between two people from different worlds who don’t know each other. The question going into the conversation was “where would we find the common ground?” and it did not take long. While a lot of people who listen to this podcast are in the horse world, I believe anyone who is on a journey of becoming a better version of themselves will find this conversation both deeply satisfying and perhaps challenging. You will notice throughout that Warwick challenges himself both during the conversation and in the stories he tells. And he is super skilled at weaving lessons and themes into a meaningful narrative. Perhaps his most powerful lesson was taught to him by the horse who showed him he did not know what he was doing. With a curious mind and a commitment to listening, he discovered what a horse could teach him about himself. In that way, this conversation is a master class in self-awareness.

I’d love for you to consider it it’s at patreon.com/comealongfortheridepodcastIn this episode I spoke with Warwick Schiller from Warwick Schiller Performance Horsemanship. Most of you may of heard of Warwick and probably follow him on the socials so you will know that he travels the world helping people with training their horses and has a really large following worldwide. He believes you are the perfect person to train your horse. The great part about talking to Warwick for me is that his story reminded me of why I started this podcast and brought me back to my core values as a horse person. I believe that we have such an influence on horses by what we are holding in our bodies and minds and we bring it to them every time we approach or train or ride them.He also reminded me that horses really want one thing only from us and that is our presence.I didn't want to get into training specifics with Warwick as such as he gives you all of this online already. I wanted to know about his personal story on his change in who he is and how he does things. I wanted to see what makes him tick.A heads up, this is the longest podcast I’ve done it’s just over 2 hours. So sit back and enjoy the ride!To connect with Warwick please follow one of the links below.https://videos.warwickschiller.com/https://www.warwickschiller.com/https://www.facebook.com/pg/Warwickschillerfanpagehttps://www.instagram.com/warwickschillerhttps://www.youtube.com/user/WarwickSchiller
This episode I talk with performance horse guru Warwick Schiller on why mindset is important in every area of our lives and how to become more aware.
I spoke to Warwick Schiller on March 24, 2020 during the COVID 19 and we spoke about how a horse is one of the best barometers of authenticity and being present. He shared some insights in our conversation about horses and how they can read our minds. Everything he speaks to during our conversation can be applied to the people around us or who work for us. He also shared how he works with his own intuition or how his go with the flow way has lead him to some amazing experiences. Phoarrr what an in depth podcast with Warwick Schiller! We really dive deep in to the journey with horses and working on the inside of us. Get ready to be shaken up and take your journey with the horse to a whole new level.
Understanding “making the wrong thing hard and the right thing easy”, is often hard for us as people, as it is all about allowing the horse to have control. In a sense, as people, we’re control freaks. We want to control the horse, but really in order to get along with horses really well, the first thing we've got to do and it's hard a lot of the time is to give up that need to control the situation. Warwick Schiller helps thousands of people around the world with their horses through his training videos, active Facebook group, and clinics. Warwick has a special talent of communicating with people, most often with perfectly clever analogies, so that they can better understand the principles behind his lessons. He is also an accomplished reining trainer, and will, again, be representing Australia in the 2018 World Equestrian Games. In this episode, Warwick talks to us about the principles of horsemanship, the importance of mindfulness when working with or showing our horses, and the benefit of building the horse-human relationship. Key Takeaways: Put your hand down: let your horse make a mistake so you can find the real problems, and the right solutions Making mistakes is how you learn. Practice and perfect the basics, before moving on. When you have a problem, look to the beginning and fix the basics. Mindfulness and being in the moment, without expectations, is critical. Taking the time to build a connection and relationship with your horse, can often get you a lot further Be open minded, learn from other people and disciplines, and do what works for you Show Notes: [01:04] – Growing up riding in Australia [01:40] – The passion for horses, then and now. How horses feel like home, and make you a better person. [03:33] – How working with horses is a form of meditation [04:02] – From banker to trainer. Taking two steps back and three steps forward. [31:14] – Knowing when your horse is ready to leave the first steps behind [34:33] – Finding the right mentality and how expectations are the root of frustrations [40:26] – 10 year old girl training. Chuy Chavez is reining trainer and stellar coach who has been making waves on the West Coast. He is a prime example of what it means to seek constant improvement through passion and keeping an open mind. In episode 3, Chuy tells us how setting the proper foundation and teaching a horse to want to learn early on is key for any sport, how to focus on the right things without getting overwhelmed, and how he keeps his mindset on learning from his experiences and everybody around him. Chuy’s passion and horse sense has gained him success early in his career and respect from the industry. He’s one to watch. Key Takeaways: Learn to listen when your horse is telling you what he/she needs, and whether you need to be a horseman, a trainer, or a showman in that moment. Refine your approach and understand what works for you and your horse. Test new things with your horse, and pay attention to how they react. Know your horse. What you have at home, is what you have at the show. Show what you have at home. Visualize the aspects that you need to work on. Think about it exactly what you are going to do when you enter that pen. Practice on your horse when you can, but you have to be fair to them, so learn to visualize that maneuver in your mind. Pick a couple of things to really focus on in the show pen, such as your two weakest points. Get those solid, and don’t overwhelm yourself by trying to think about doing everything perfectly. In episode #21 of Patrick King’s “Talking About Horses” audio broadcast Warwick Schiller joins to talk about EVERYTHING! Hahaha…. in a broadcast that went for nearly 3 hours, there was time to cover nearly everything, and the chatted about topics ranging from reining to dressage, travel to religion, and so much more! https://pkhorsemanship.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Warwick-Schiller-TALKING-ABOUT-HORSES-Episode-21.mp3 The post Ep # 21, Warwick Schiller, TALKING ABOUT HORSES appeared first on Patrick King Horsemanship.
Horseman Clinician Warwick Schiller Growing up in Australia a young Warwick Schiller was hungry for horse news and studied Western Horseman magazine like he was cramming for a final. He says that even today if you show him a cover from the 70's he can likely tell you one of the articles inside. Yet he began his working career as a banker. It was on a sabbatical from banking that Warwick came to America and found a job working for a reining trainer. Working with a reining trainer gave Warwick the foundation he needed to become a clinician. Now, Warwick Schiller travels the world giving clinics and demonstrations on his unique style of horsemanship. I really enjoy talking with Warwick. He studies everything. Philosophy, efficiency, psychology are just a few of the areas Warwick explores to learn more about horsemanship. Warwick Schiller will be one of the speakers at the Best Horse Practices Summit in the fall of 2017. Best Horse Practices explores the principles of Evidenced-based Horsemanship. Warwick Schiller has a new TV program on Farm & Ranch TV (available on ROKU) called The Principles of Horsemanship. It's here where Warwick talks about the difference between learning techniques and principles. Using these principles, Warwick believes you can develop the techniques that work for you to build your horsemanship. The ban on Caleche or carriage horses in Montreal is a hot topic in episode 146. As well, Performance Horsemanship trainer, Warwick Schiller, is interviewed. He speaks from the heart about his connection with Jonathan Field. Jenn Lindstrom speaks about the Trainers Challenge and other events at the Mane Event Expo.
Horse Expo Pomona On the road again. This time we head out to Horse Expo Pomona for the three-day event held on Super Bowl Weekend. Horse Expo Pomona had a fantastic lineup of Clinicians including Clinton Anderson, Jonathan Field, Pat Parelli, Craig Cameron, Warwick Schiller, Brandi Lyons, Mary Kitzmiller and many more. There were seminars and presentations going on at four different venues throughout the day. Kristine Wriding There was live music by Kristine Wriding and three buildings filled with vendors catering to the horse and rider. While I could only stay for the first day of Horse Expo Pomona, I was able to interview some of my favorites. Jonathan Field talks about a free video series he is introducing on his website, 31 in 13. Jonathan is an effective clinician and a wonderful interview. We spent a good 15 minutes talking about my project horse Scratch before we got into a general discussion about his horsemanship. Check out JonathanFieldHorsemanship.net for more details. Clinton Anderson Clinton Anderson was making his return to Horse Expo Pomona after an almost 10 year absence. Clinton has big plans for a show idea coming up in 2017. While he would not reveal any of the secrets of the new production, if you listen to the words he says, rearrange the letters, you'll exactly what he is up to (that's a joke unless you figure it out, then let me know). My friend Laura Rene Johnson was competing in the Ultimate Super Horse Challenge and we got and insight into the tension that these competitors feel. Laura did a great job with her horse Star. I had heard, from many of you actually, that Warwick Shiller is an effective horseman. While he used to be a reining horse trainer, Warwick now travels extensively sharing his horsemanship knowledge. He is very active on Facebook and is available to answer questions. Check out the group Warwick Schiller Performance Horsemanship or WarwickSchiller.com. Warwick Schiller Craig Cameron is out to have a good time. He's as much an entertainer as he is a horseman. His down-home style and simple explanations of his exercises are the reason he is one of the top clinicians out there. We even got to talk to one of Craig's apprentices, Anton Hagstrom. Anton is from Sweden and is learning a lot from Craig. Check out CraigCameron.com. Interested in Helping the Show? It takes a lot of time an money to put on the podcast. I've been willingly footing the bill on both for four years now. My equipment is wearing out. My travel budget is shrinking. If yo want to help, there is a simple way to do it. I've partnered with Patreon. You can contribute any amount. Anything you would care to send along would be greatly appreciate. Thanks. About Us Welcome to the Whoa Podcast about Horses and Horsemanship. I am your host John Harrer. Along with my wife, Ranae, each week on the show we talk about some aspect of owning a horse. It could be feeding or supplementation. It could be bits and bridles, tack, or cowboy boots. We cover training problems, or competing in shows. We talk to farriers and horse chiropractors. We talk about movies, books and magazine articles. And, we travel to places we think you would like to take your horse. That’s what the Whoa Podcast is all about.
