My guest today, on the confidence boosting Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a man who only recently appeared on the show, back on episode 675 And why is he back so quickly I hear you cry, when there are so many guests desperate to get on the show to start joining up dots. Well, during the recording it was obvious to me that there were so many stories needing to be told, which we just didn't get near to discovering and will be so useful for all of us, as we learn to trust ourselves and go for the gold in our lives. Well, after an unfulfilling first semester of college that resulted in major stress, anxiety and unhappiness, he knew that he needed to make a change. Although doing well academically, he had no passion for what he was doing. He realized that going to school and getting a degree might not be the right path for him - at least at that point in my life. So he decided to take a chance, leaving school behind to follow his heart and explore other ways of life. With just a backpack and on a shoe-string budget, he spent 4 months traveling through Guatemala, Nicaragua and Costa Rica without a phone, yearning to disconnect from the widespread dominance of social media. From living in the jungle and teaching English to poverty stricken kids, to meeting inspirational people from around the world, his quest took him to remote and exotic destinations throughout Central America. And now with an amazing book Off The Beaten Trail doing well, and his speaking career taking off it quite simply seems to me that this is a man that we need to keep our eye on. Which is why, we have him back on the show already. So when he decided to go down to South America, what was he hoping to achieve? Disconnection or actual connection with his real self. And was there anytime when he felt that he had bitten off more than he could hope to chew, but still managed to overcome? Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Jake Heilbrunn Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty topics with Jake Heilbrunn such as: Why Jake knew that he needed to maintain a lifestyle that would protect his balance of $4,000 travel funds, so found a way of volunteering to gain food and board Why the power of story telling was so important to Jake through his travels, and why he feels that people should embrace this age old tradition more than they do today. and lastly…. Why the world is full of amazing people, who come into your life just when you need them most and will help you out when times are tough. So dont be worried about what could happen. https://bengreenfieldfitness.com/ELDOA Four months ago, a guy knocked on my front door. He'd flown all the way up from Alabama to my house to train me in a new method of movement and deep fascial stretching that I had never before encountered…something called the "ELDOA Method". Now don't get me wrong: I've done my fair share of mobility training. For example, in the article "",  I delve into how, on a weekly basis, I engage in everything from active stretching to yoga to foam rolling to traction to deep tissue massage and beyond. But Jacob Schoen, the guy who showed up at my house (and my guest on today's podcast) and trained me for eight solid hours over the course of a weekend, introduced me to this new form of extremely intensive "stretching", and helped me discover something I now take breaks from work to do each day and one of the best ways to eliminate low back pain, heal the spine, and get a full body myofascial stretch. It looks like this: Jacob Schoen is the owner and founder of SHIFT Sport and Wellness in New Orleans, La. Jacob is currently studying in the programs of a guy named Dr. Guy Voyer and is using this education to change the way people approach and associate with their pain or performance. By focusing on the purpose, precision, and quality of exercise Jacob inspires people to “move more aware” in the gym and in life. He hopes that by creating awareness in the individual through movement that he can create momentum towards a more connected and conscious culture of health. During our discussion, you'll discover: -How Jacob discovered ELDOA after a series of injuries and poor movement patterns developed from cycling and triathlon...[9:47] -Why ELDOA is like using an inversion table on your whole body...[15:15] -What it means to create space within your joint s (and why joints aren't "stacked" the way you would think they are)...[18:30] -On a physiological level, what does ELDOA do, exactly? [22:45] -Why most stretching practices or techniques don't actually target your myofascia, and how ELDOA does...[25:30] -How stretching your wrist and big toe at the same time can, surprisingly, decompress your actual spine...[29:20] -What a sample ELDOA session actually looks like...[31:45] -What it means to "normalize" your muscle tone...[41:12] -What you probably don't know about the bones in the skull and why your jaw and skull bones are so important for decompressing your spine...[45:19] -How to self-adjust your jaw with a dowel...[50:15] -Why Jake is not a fan of foam rolling and deep tissue work and why Ben is...[54:15] -The #1 completely natural supplement you can take that is almost free and that vastly decreases back pain...[69:20] -How often you should do ELDOA...[72:45] -The best way for you to learn how to do ELDOA yourself...[77:00] -And much more! 025: Using Crowdsourcing In Ecommerce To Go From A $1,000 Startup To A $30 Million Plus Behemoth - Jake Nickell, Threadless.com

The Ecommerce Influence Podcast

Crowdsourcing in ecommerce isn't exactly a new thing, but Jake Nickell of Threadless is credited with starting the trend, a trend that helped his company hit $30 million plus. Jake co-founded Threadless in 2000, a company based out of Chicago that combines an online community of artists and an eCommerce website. He started Threadless with just $1,000 of his own money and has since seen revenues go from $1.5 million in 2004, $6.5 million in 2006, and the most recent estimate puts revenues as high as $30 million in 2011. Each week, about 1,000 designs are submitted online and are put to a public vote. After further review and some additional scoring and feedback, 10 designs are chosen, printed on clothing and other products, and then sold worldwide through the online store, selling about 120,000 t-shirts per month. Jake made “crowdsourcing” an essential part of the business plan (even though he doesn't use the term any more because of the way it is now perceived), building a thriving community that consists of 2.5 million+ members that have helped him build his business from a $1,000 startup to a $30million dollar behemoth. In this episode he’s going to talk to us today about his online path to $30million+. Topics Discussed Throughout This Interview Becoming the "Coolest Dude On Earth"....seriously, Google that phrase. He ranks #1. How the idea of Threadless came about. Using crowdsourcing in ecommerce to hit $30 million+ His focus on partnerships and how it's helping his company. Going 8 years without spending even a penny on advertising. The other ideas that failed while Threadless survived and thrived and what he learned from those experiences. Why Jake is focusing on what Threadless does best and sticking with those. Why he no longer likes or uses the term crowd-sourcing to describe his business model. His take on creating experiences for customers. What Jake would do differently if he started Threadless again today.   Links/Resources: Jake Nickell Threadless   Thank You For Listening & A Simple Request To get more awesome Ecommerce Influence content sent directly to your device and into your ears as they become available, you can subscribe on iTunes or Stitcher!
