Is Trump About To Lose His Trade War?

    What A Day

It was a big day for President Donald Trump as the Supreme Court heard arguments on his power to impose tariffs unilaterally. And the justices seemed… skeptical. Even Trump-friendly Justice Neil Gorsuch questioned Trump Administration lawyers on their claim that tariffs are foreign policy, so the President can do what he wants. Oregon is one of the states suing the Trump administration over tariffs. To find out more about what they argued at SCOTUS and what might happen if the justices give Trump a very rare loss, we talked to Dan Rayfield, the Attorney General of Oregon. And in headlines, the government shutdown is officially the longest in American history, California Republicans sue the state over Prop 50 just hours after it passes, and Israel and Hamas continue the grim exchange of remains under last month's U.S.-brokered ceasefire.Show Notes:Check out AG Rayfield's work – https://tinyurl.com/2ds3y767Call Congress – 202-224-3121Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Newt talks with Brenda Hafera about the Heritage Foundation's new initiative, the Heritage Guide to Historic Sites, launched ahead of the United States' 250th anniversary. The guide, available at historicsites.heritage.org is an interactive online map designed to help tourists, especially families and educators, rediscover America’s Heritage by exploring significant historic sites across the original 13 colonies, with plans to expand nationwide by 2026. The guide provides detailed information about each site, including historical significance, book recommendations, and considerations for family visits. It also evaluates sites for historical accuracy and ideological bias, addressing concerns about the portrayal of American history. Hafera discusses the challenges of preserving historical accuracy amidst efforts to revise history through a modern ideological lens. The guide aims to foster a deeper understanding of American history and values, encouraging families to plan educational trips that celebrate the nation's heritage.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Canada's Troubled Relations with China and the US. Charles Burton (author of The Beaver and the Dragon) analyzes Canadian Prime Minister Carney's meeting with China's Xi Jinping following the APEC conference. Burton described Carney as a "supplicant" who echoed Chinese rhetoric of "constructive and pragmatic interactions," which means focusing on trade while avoiding criticism. Issues discussed included Chinese tariffs on Canadian canola and Canada's tariffs on subsidized Chinese EVs. Burton addresses the severely strained Ottawa-Washington relationship due to US tariffs and President Trump's stated unwillingness to talk, feeding "anti-American sentiment" in Canada. This trade uncertainty is a factor in Canada's massive budget deficit, which aims to fund government infrastructure to compensate for lacking investor interest. Furthermore, concerns persist in Canada regarding Chinese EVs potentially functioning as "listening posts" for state security. 1907

General Blaine Holt (United States Air Force retired) analyzes the significant US military buildup off Venezuela, headquartered at Roosevelt Roads, describing it as a "war-winning force" primarily targeting cartels and sending a global message of American might. He suggests that operations will likely use commando-style tactics rather than a full occupation, potentially leveraging historical events like the Bay of Pigs as cover for unconventional approaches. The conversation pivots to Ukraine, where Russia is effectively using new glide bombs and missiles, having shifted to a wartime mobilization economy. Holt notes the profound erosion of Ukraine's infrastructure and the demoralizing lack of manpower. He argues innovative, inexpensive defenses, such as Reaper drones with Sidewinders or lasers, are needed, as current air defense economics are unsustainable. 1917 USS WYOMING

Peter Berkowitz (Hoover Institution Fellow and educator) discusses the Trump administration's "Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education," which requires universities to meet ten priorities to qualify for federal benefits like student loans and research grants. While many goals are proper or already legally required (like protecting free speech and obeying civil rights laws), several are highly controversial. These controversial points include demanding that hiring decisions be made solely on individual "merit," which critics redefine to include group diversity, and requiring universities to maintain institutional neutrality on political issues. Most universities rejected the compact, asserting it would impair academic freedom. Berkowitz suggests the administration should use direct financial incentives to reward universities that actively teach free speech, rather than relying on mandates. 945-1000 The Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education. SECOND HOUR 10-1015 US-China Ceasefire and Competition in Technology and Space. Jack Burnham (Foundation for Defense of Democracies research analyst) characterizes the Trump-Xi meeting as a necessary "truce" that allows both nations to gain stability and strengthen their positions before the next escalation. Regarding rare earths, China is now employing the US "playbook," setting up a licensing structure rather than a full trade cessation. He emphasizes that building a complete rare earth supply chain outside of China, especially refining capacity, may realistically take seven to ten years. In technology, Beijing is pushing for domestic self-sufficiency in AI infrastructure, partly driven by paranoia that imported chips may contain backdoors or vulnerabilities. Burnham also details China's commitment to militarizing space, including copying US reconnaissance capabilities and practicing anti-satellite operations like "dogfighting." 1015-1030 US-China Ceasefire and Competition in Technology and Space. Spencer Klavan (Associate Editor of the Claremont Review of Books) reviews Michael M. Rosen's book, Like Silicon from Clay, which uses ancient Jewish wisdom, specifically the Golem legend, to analyze AI. Rosen categorizes AI believers into four camps: autonomists (who believe AI will achieve consciousness or sentience) and automationists (who view AI as a sophisticated, non-conscious tool). Both camps are divided into "positive" (optimistic) and "negative" (pessimistic) outlooks. Klavan identifies as a positive automationist, seeing AI as an "elaborate adding machine" or "better Google" that is helpful but requires human verification because it often "hallucinates" (makes up facts). He notes that chatbots conclude conversations with questions because they need human input to avoid becoming "deranged" and to improve their ability to predict human speech patterns. 1045-1100 AI Philosophy and Jewish Wisdom. The dollar's strength is linked to US military power and superior legal and bankruptcy systems, which provide essential "social infrastructure." Pollock recalls the famous quip, "Our currency, your problem," made by Treasury Secretary John Connally in 1971 after the US defaulted on its gold obligations under the Bretton Woods system. Challenges from the Chinese renminbi and crypto are noted, but Rogoff finds serious institutional flaws in China's system. VAST's larger planned station, Haven 2, is designed to rotate, creating artificial gravity. This capability is crucial for mitigating the damage extended weightlessness causes the human body, such as cardiovascular weakening, bone density loss, and vision problems (the eye flattens). Zimmerman notes the ongoing debate over NASA's Artemis program, where former administrators clash over SpaceX's ability to build the lunar lander on time, often driven by lobbying interests. Buckle up, patriots—it's a brutal postmortem on the 2025 off-year bloodbath that has conservatives reeling and the deep state smirking. From Zohran Mamdani's shocking socialist surge to NYC's mayoral throne—quoting Marxist icons who crushed freedoms abroad—to Abigail Spanberger's iron grip on Virginia's governorship and Jay Jones' vengeful ascent as AG, Democrats didn't just win; they weaponized the vote. Joe Oltmann blasts the undeniable: "We haven't won a single election since November 2024—the legacy set is rigged." Mark Cook warns we're "one or two elections from Venezuela," zero doubt. This isn't random; it's a calculated assault on the Republic, from NJ's blue wave to Virginia's radical rematch. Tune in as we dissect the fraud fingerprints and rally the roar against a system screaming for reform.Enter the unyielding warriors on the front lines: Lori Gimelshteyn, founder of Colorado Parent Advocacy Network (CPAN), storms the airwaves to expose leftism's siege on our kids. This patriot mom turned national firebrand mobilized 35,000 signatures to gut HB25-1312's speech-crushing tyranny, co-leads landmark lawsuits shredding school districts for secret gender transitions, firing "proud American" deans, and stripping dads of medical rights over mutilating teens. From her triumphant National School Choice bash—to the gut-wrenching Rocky Mountain Summit unveiling gender-affirming horrors via whistleblowers like Jamie Reed, Lori's battle cry echoes: parents, not the state, rule the roost. Hear her unfiltered fury on SEL indoctrination traps, custody kidnappings, and the medical mafia's grip—plus blueprints for every family to fight back. If Colorado's a battleground, Lori's the general we need nationwide. But the chill wind from NYC's Mamdani victory isn't just blue—it's a Sharia shadow creeping into Times Square, where crowds chant for Islam in every home and liberals cheer, blind to burqas and ballot-or-bullet threats from Muslim Brotherhood blueprints. Curtis Sliwa's dire warning rings true: Van Jones laments the "missed outreach," but we see the endgame—socialist jihadis remaking the Big Apple in Nehru's nightmare mold. As fallout erupts, we pivot to raw reaction: Fax-Blast Congress with our Tina Peters thunderbolt, demanding her pardon from Biden's dungeon for daring to decode Dominion's dark code. Free this Gold Star mom, ban the machines, mandate paper ballots and voter ID—or 2026 seals our fate in server-farm slavery. Join the uprising: listen, act, and arm yourself before the machines steal.

And some of the biggest swings, especially in Virginia, were amongst suburban women. This win goes far beyond the races that were on the ballot last night. This is a win for every American who wants to preserve democracy, common sense, and decency.Ever since the devastating losses in 2024, we've been saying “when they go low, we go local.” Some people were skeptical — how could “going local” stop ICE from invading our cities? Or Trump from cutting food stamps for children? But it was about planting seeds. Those seeds have already grown into some pretty incredible results… who knows what our harvest in 2026 or 2028 will look like? The work doesn't end, but we all deserve a little rest. It became the foundation of Project Gutenberg.Michael Hart, the visionary behind the project, later became known as the ‘father of e-books'.His close friend, Greg Newby, who was Project Gutenberg's CEO and director, tells Gill Kearsley how a bike ride to a shop became the unlikely catalyst for a global transformation in how we read and share literature. Greg died shortly after giving this interview.Eye-witness accounts brought to life by archive. Witness History is for those fascinated by the past. We take you to the events that have shaped our world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes every day, we take you back in time and all over the world, to examine wars, coups, scientific discoveries, cultural moments and much more. Recent episodes explore everything from the death of Adolf Hitler, the first spacewalk and the making of the movie Jaws, to celebrity tortoise Lonesome George, the Kobe earthquake and the invention of superglue. We look at the lives of some of the most famous leaders, artists, scientists and personalities in history, including: Eva Peron – Argentina's Evita; President Ronald Reagan and his famous ‘tear down this wall' speech; Thomas Keneally on why he wrote Schindler's List; and Jacques Derrida, France's ‘rock star' philosopher. Zohran Mamdani is increasingly brazen, openly supporting the BDS movement, which aims to economically destroy the largely Jewish state of Israel, making it an act of antisemitism backed by terrorist-supporting entities. Abigail Spanberger officially wins the race for Virginia Governor and Ghazala Hashmi wins the race for Lt Governor. Mikie Sherrill wins the race for NJ Governor. Virginia and NJ will now be a much more radical state than it was. Later, we denounce alt-right, woke isolationist, anti-American fake MAGA reprobates like Nick Fuentes and Tucker Carlson. More To The Story: Jason Stanley isn't afraid to use the F-word when talking about President Donald Trump. The author of How Fascism Works and Erasing History: How Fascists Rewrite the Past to Control the Future is clear: He believes the United States is currently under an authoritarian regime led by a fascist leader. At a time when the Trump administration is putting increasing pressure on private and public universities to conform or lose funding, Stanley recently left his position at Yale University and moved his family to Canada, where he's now the Bissell-Heyd chair in American studies at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy at the University of Toronto. The move, he says, has allowed him to talk about the US in a way that wouldn't have been possible if he remained in the country. On this week's More To The Story, Stanley traces the recent rise of fascist regimes around the globe, and explains why he describes what's happening in the US today as a “coup” and why he thinks the speed and scope of the Trump administration's hardline policies could ultimately lead to significant pushback from those opposed to the president.Producer: Josh Sanburn | Editor: Kara McGuirk-Allison | Theme music: Fernando Arruda and Jim Briggs | Copy editor: Nikki Frick |  Digital producer: Artis Curiskis | Deputy executive producer: Taki Telonidis | Executive producer: Brett Myers | Executive editor: James West | Host: Al Letson Donate today at Revealnews.org/more Subscribe to our weekly newsletter at Revealnews.org/weekly Follow us on Instagram and Bluesky Read: He Studies Fascism: Is He Now Living Through It? Westerman breaks down the Fix Our Forests Act, the push to expand markets for low-grade wood (biochar, biostimulants, energy), and why U.S. housing depends on smarter, science-based forest management instead of smoke and ash. The conversation then turns to unleashing American energy. Westerman details bipartisan permitting reform via the SPEED Act to cut NEPA delays, reduce litigation ambushes, and build what America needs — from transmission lines and data-center power to mining for critical minerals — faster and cleaner. He also previews Great American Outdoors Act “250” improvements and the unanimously passed EXPLORE Act for outdoor recreation. In this episode, public school history teacher Gianni Paul joins Breht to trace the historical roots of our current crisis — stagnant wages, mass homelessness, collapsing infrastructure, rising fascism, Gilded Age inequality, and a beaten down working class — back to Reagan's counter-revolution against the New Deal and the forty-year neoliberal project that followed. Together, they explore how neoliberalism emerged out of the crises of the 1970s, Carter's role in laying the groundwork before Reagan, the destruction of unions and working-class power, the ideological weaponization of anti-communism, the bipartisan consolidation of neoliberalism under Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, and Biden, the ways Reagan and Trump represent two phases of the same class project, the collapse of the Soviet Union and the rise of capitalist triumphalism, the slow disintegration of America's middle class into debt and precarity, the explosion of homelessness and hopelessness, the erosion of U.S. imperial dominance alongside the emergence of a multipolar world, and why the U.S. repeatedly chooses reaction over social transformation — raising the question of whether genuine change can still emerge from within the imperial core or whether new possibilities are taking shape elsewhere. Understanding this history is key to understanding why everyday life in America feels increasingly unstable, and what futures remain possible beyond neoliberal decay. On January 14, 1973, when Super Bowl VII was played, perfection was on the line. Up to that point in the American football season, the Miami Dolphins had a perfect record—sixteen games without a loss. And when the Super Bowl was over, the victorious Dolphins would go down in sports history as the only team in professional football with a perfect record. Victorious. That’s also a designation that fits Jesus. A close look at His ministry reveals one victory after another. Matthew’s record of Christ’s ministry in Galilee (Matthew 4:23-9:38) includes summary statements on the front and back ends. “Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people” (4:23; 9:35). Christ was victorious over demons, disease, and death (see Mark 5:1-43). And what looked like a crushing defeat—His death on the cross—turned out to be the final victory. He defeated the ultimate enemy—death—by His own resurrection (see Acts 2:24). Victors—whether in sports or other fields of endeavor—are showered with awards and gifts. What’s the appropriate response to Jesus whose life, death, and resurrection have secured forgiveness and a right relationship with God for all who embrace Him? Nothing less than worshipful allegiance!

NO VIDEO PODCAST TODAY! Tim and Mary take on the news cycle with an update on the November 4 elections. With the NYC mayoral behind us, many are saying the way of life in America is truly behind us as well. Aftermarket comments on social indicate people really didn't do any research on Mayor-elect Mamdani's beliefs, a trojan horse of Communism and Islam which will surely affect us all eventually. It's shocking to read today's comments from the average American, actually, wondering what all the fuss is about. Are constituents really that easily led? Even in the 'flyover' states, we will find that with Islam's encroachment into Minnesota, Iowa and Michigan, the dominoes will fall eventually. We talk about what it all means at least for now, for America, Israel, and all those who love freedom. We also talk about freedom to be believers and Jews in today's climate. Believers who have long watched prophecy never thought we would see the things we are seeing, but we are here for a reason - walk circumspectly, and occupy till He comes. He is ever on the throne.
