In the early hours of Christmas Eve 2007, Royal Marines Commando Mark Ormrod was out on a routine foot patrol in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan when he stepped on and triggered an Improvised Explosive Device. Thanks to the swift action of the men around him and the intervention of the Medical Emergency Response Team he was airlifted via helicopter to an emergency field hospital in a desperate attempt to try and save his life. An innovative and dangerous procedure carried out onboard a Chinook helicopter en route to the hospital did save his life. He woke up three days later in the UK in Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham: Both legs amputated above the knee and his right arm amputated above the elbow. He was the UK's first triple amputee to survive the Afghanistan conflict.During his recovery the doctors told him that he'd never walk again and that he should prepare himself for the rest of his life in a wheelchair. Now it would have been understandable for Mark to bitterly withdraw in a state of anger and depression and to resign himself to live life on the sidelines. It would have been easy for him to cash in his disability pension and whittle away the days, forever regretting the decision to join the Marines and to deploy to Afghanistan, but he didn't. To the contrary he used his set back as a springboard for growth and reinvention.Today, Mark Ormrod is an internationally acclaimed motivational speaker, a peak performance coach, and the author of the award winning auto-biography Man Down. He is a source of daily inspiration for the thousands of people who follow him on Social Media. He has three children, a beautiful wife and an insatiable lust for life. He is a relentless charitable fund-raiser and a daredevil who has performed stunts that many able bodied athletes would find daunting. He has not used a wheel chair since June 9th 2009 and he jokes about the fact that children call him Iron-Man because of his high-tech prosthetics legs. As well as a peak performance coach he is a mentor and a role model to other amputees and an ambassador for the Royal Marines Association. His sense of humour is only equalled by his sense of wonder, love for learning and love for life.Mark Ormrod turned his personal tragedy into an on going story of personal success and he is now committed to helping others who may have suffered setbacks or feel they are not yet achieving their maximum potential to take charge of their lives, unleash their personal power and live a life with #NoLimitsMark Ormrod MBEhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/mark-ormrod-mbe-44609121/https://www.markormrod.com/Stephen Fryhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-fry-19b64614/https://www.instagram.com/thestephenfry/

Just finished reading the book Becoming The 0.1%. The biggest takeaway for me was the Figure on Page 70. The small (relative to life) sacrifice it will take to achieve a significant, life-changing goal.Crazy how I came across this book but so glad I followed through with the thought and purchased a copy. Apart from the interesting insight into a world that is beyond what I could ever imagine, the way Gareth relates this back to how everyone could apply what he learnt is amazing.I found his Lessons and Key points at the end of each chapter full of so much wisdom. This is an incredible read for budding entrepreneurs as it is not all sunshine and roses, and you need to take the hits and keep moving forward which was an overarching message for me from this book. All I can say is thank you Gareth for persevering back in 2005 and keeping a diary so today we can have that insight into your learnings. From Gareth's website "This book documents the uncertain journey towards achieving a 1/1000 goal, intricately unpicks how it was done and offers transferrable insight and advice that can be applied to other things in life, so the reader can achieve large and often intimidating goals. The strong message that comes through is one of self-agency – the author demonstrates how with focus & determination and living in the present, anyone can achieve dramatic life transformation and have the future they desire.Becoming the 0.1%, therefore, systematically documents what can be learnt from elite military training and explains with experience and academic insights how it can be applied to all walks of life."Gareth Timminshttps://www.linkedin.com/in/garethtimmins/https://www.noughtpointone.co.uk/Stephen Fryhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-fry-19b64614/https://www.instagram.com/thestephenfry/

His story about being a professional musician, his desire to learn about the brain and how he has transformed this into a business helping others, was very interesting. As Jarrod says "A breakthrough in your business will first happen as a breakthrough in your thinking".  About Jarrod in his own words:It's been my experience working with successful business owners that it's easy to slip into a rut of making the same income each year despite working harder and harder. This can be incredibly frustrating when you're doing all you know to do, but at the end of the day it just feels like you're spinning your wheels.Have you ever met someone who owns several companies, sits on several boards, has a thriving family life, and has time to play golf 20 hours a week? There is a specific way of thinking that produces that kind of lifestyle, and trying harder won't get you there, as a matter of fact the harder you try the more behind you get. And despite popular wisdom, checking things off your to-do list actually lowers your income.Anytime I see a small business owner hitting the same obstacles like "not having enough time" or "not having enough money" I KNOW it's not because they aren't trying hard enough. Entrepreneurs are some of the hardest working people I know! But the thing is, a breakthrough in your situation doesn't come from a change in your effort - more effort just gets more of what you ALREADY have. A breakthrough - a true transformation in your income and free time will first happen as a breakthrough in your THINKING.Jarrod Haninglinkedin.com/in/jarrod-haning-5831578mindsetperformance.coStephen Fryhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-fry-19b64614/https://www.instagram.com/thestephenfry/

We met Emily on Day 188 of the 366 day journey of meeting someone new every day. Her clients describe Emily Elrod as energetic, wiser beyond her years, and the person that gets things done. Her husband describes her as a blonde, good momma, and animal philanthropist. But if you ask her, she is just a lover of humanity, dark chocolate, and nouns as she will gladly nerd out with you on ways people, places, and things (aka nouns) go from stressed to strategic. She gained this love from her personal and professional experiences. Emily was once a 21 yr old single mother fighting for her and her son's life. She was a lead ergonomic engineer who loved people more than machines. Also, she was an award-winning health strategist who despised how programs were creating human workers and not human beings...even when the focus was on health and safety. These experiences showed her the impact of stress and how it can cut off innovation, growth, and longevity. With the motivation to help the stressed, she started a company called Workzbe to bring collaboration, fun, and wisdom to overwhelmed leaders in HR, Safety, and Org. Development.Obviously, no great company can be a one-woman show, so she hired people way smarter than her and together they facilitate WISE engagement strategies for companies in healthcare, power, and manufacturing (aka where the stress could have a human cost to it). Our WISE approach has helped clients see an average 22% decrease in turnover, a 28% increase in engagement, and over $1900 ROI on claims. (HINT: Your bank account does reflect how much you care for people.) When she isn't leading an awesome team and working with the best clients, she is at home playing tag with her kids and farming with her husband.

Stephen and Donna Fry interviewed by Melahni Ake on day 366 of the 366 day journey.Donna and I made a new year resolution on the 27th of November 2019 to meet someone new every day for the next 366 days. So, from 27 November 2019 to 26 November 2020, we met someone new every day, that we never knew before and had a chat physically initially then this transitioned to Zoom considering the pandemic. In total we had 789 conversations which included 1 Alpaca, 1 football/soccer team and 1 cricket team. The Journey has been recorded on Instagram @thestephenfry and on LinkedIn.We have learnt so much from this journey and fully underestimated the need for connection. We believe connection with people is a way of adding value to others, so we have decided to continue our journey of meeting new people and having conversations. To lessen the effort associated with meeting someone every day we have decided to meet 30 over a 30 day period. We will do this for several 30 day periods over the course of the next twelve months. The aim will be to ask three specific questions to learn from the people we meet and share this with the audience. These questions will initially be:• What is something interesting about yourself?• What book or person has greatly influenced you and how were you influenced?• What would be a perfect day for you?We will kick off this next phase of our connecting journey on 14 December 2020.
