Today we are flipping the script and interviewing Anne, the principal and media director at Richardson Media Group. We could not think of a better way to wrap up this season and are excited for you to tune in as Anne opens up about her origin story.
During the fall of 2020, I worked closely with a team of UNH undergraduate students as part of the B Impact Clinic. In this conversation, I gathered with my students and we looked back on our collective effort to help Richardson Media Group earn its B Corp certification. The students and I reflect on why more companies should become B Corporations, how this experience has helped prepare them for life post-college, and what it means to prioritize sustainability and social responsibility in a small company. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!
Matt Willey is an art activist, muralist and founder of The Good of the Hive, a socially driven, for-benefit business designed to ignite radical curiosity around planetary health issues through art and storytelling. Matt’s goal is to paint 50,000 honey bees to raise awareness of the importance of pollinators to our environment. To date, he’s illustrated approximately 5,500 bees in spaces around the world. In Part 2 of this two-part episode with Matt Willey of The good of the hive, Matt and I discuss how gaining a broader awareness of pollinators and the ways they fit into our ecosystem can move people to engage in simple but meaningful actions to care for the earth and in the process connect more deeply with one another. Thank you for tuning in!
I’m fortunate to speak with Matt Willey, art activist and founder of The Good of the Hive, a socially driven business that’s designed to ignite radical curiosity around planetary health issues through art and storytelling. Matt’s goal is to paint 50,000 bees on murals throughout the world to raise awareness of the importance of pollinators to our environment. In another interesting episode of the BSuite, I welcome Kris Skavish, co-founder and principal of Two Octobers, a Denver-based marketing agency that recently earned their B Corporation status. It doesn’t take Kris and I very long to realize that despite the geographic distance between us, there are quite a few interesting connections between our two agencies, first and foremost, our shared commitment to running purpose-driven companies.
I'm thrilled to welcome Drew Train, the co-founder and President of Oberland, a purpose-driven, B-Corp ad agency headquartered in New York City. You'll learn what inspired him to become a B-Corporation, and how that hard-earned status informs their day to day decisions. Drew has had the honor of working with large brands like Uber and The Blue Man Group and has a mission of making “purpose the new digital.”
When I first met my longtime friend and colleague, Kristen Standish, she was at the helm of Boston Magazine as its publisher. Now, she’s the CEO of Grapevine Logic. In this conversation, Kristen brings her natural spark to the BSuite in this colorful episode. We explore how the influencer marketplace has grown exponentially over the past decade, and how diversity and social justice are reflected in the profiles of influencer creatives. We’ll look at the expectations clients bring to the table when considering an investment in influencer marketing. And finally, we’ll round out the episode with an honest chat about how she juggles the dual roles of single parent and CEO, why she took up sailing, and how I got interested in bees and beekeeping.
For this episode, we cleared the decks for an unscripted team chat. Brenda Brooks is our Marketing Operations Manager and she’s here to talk about what working on a small team looks like, her choice to move from higher education to marketing, the ways we build in learning and growth at our company, and how we’ve navigated the remote work landscape with a weekly bee-themed “cluster.” I should note that this episode includes two very important “firsts.” It was the first time we recorded an episode from my home office and the first episode we recorded after the onset of the COVID pandemic.
