Zara has several neurological disabilities including Tourette's Syndrome, FND and autism which impact her life in different ways. I hope that this episode sheds some light on the reality of living with disabilities and in particular, can help to rewrite the stereotype of autistic people. I really do believe that your happiness matters. For yourself, for people around you and also, for enacting solutions to huge social justice issues like climate change. I'm pretty passionate about this one and can't wait for you all to hear this episode. Along with a new seasonal structure for the podcast I wanted to bring in a clearer theme - this episode is a mission statement of sorts. Your happiness matters. I think the climate movement (and all social change) needs empowered, solutions-focused, fulfilled changemakers. And we won't find them through negative self talk and under-confidence. This is ep2 of the 'life is an experiment series' - and it's been SUCH an interesting experiment. Honestly I feel like we've really normalised sharing our lives online, interacting with other people's content or using social media as a distraction or a way to avoid discomfort. Taking a step back from it I'm starting to realise how much of a knock-on effect that it has on our *real-life* relationships. Yes there are loads of benefits, but does the internet have a net positive effect on our connection? Huge shoutout to Megan Short's episode 'we are all third wheeling social media' which inspired me to do this - definitely go listen. This week I'm sharing my thoughts about unhappiness, how often the only thing getting in your way is you and how our emotions are indicators of how much we're aligning with our values and goals. I think it's so interesting to think about how we can use unhappiness or negative experiences to our advantage - to see it as a learning curve or a sign that we need to switch things up.
