Today's guest is the extraordinary HealthMatch CEO Manuri Gun award ena who is well-aware of the power of female role models. And as you all know, sisterhood is what drives AllBright. The first woman in her life to inspire her was her mother. Then, there was the VP of IP and litigation at Google, who she met by chance at a party in San Francisco. They got talking, and she ended up being one of HealthMatch's angel investors. There's also the former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's wife Lucy Turnbull, who is an investor in the company. And of course, Madame Clicquot, who was arguably the first female entrepreneur. Networking has played a huge part in Manuri's journey.   HealthMatch is on a mission to overcome a huge bottleneck in the medical research industry, allowing for faster and more efficient access to life-changing medication. 120,000 patients have created profiles on HealthMatch and 11,000 people have been in clinical trials in just two years. The company is growing – and fast.   So, it's no wonder Manuri is the winner of the prestigious 2021 Veuve Clicquot Bold Future Award, which puts bold  trailblazing women in the spotlight, and celebrates their achievements in honour of Madame Clicquot. Today on Sisterhood Works, I speak to Manuri about her career journey. We talk about what is was like going straight from university into a CEO and founder role, raising capital and building a team, and of course, why what being bold means to her.   Let's meet Manuri  Go to healthmatch.io  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The answer is to create a purpose-driven company that changes the way women shop for swimsuits. From the very beginning, Andie Swim has focused on being an inclusive brand dedicated to great fits (they've never used the term plus size and always used real human fit models rather than computers to fit their swimsuits).  In this episode, we talk all about building a company from scratch and the grit that involves, the role of social media in brand building and why she's on a mission to change the swimwear market for women. We hope you all learn as much about brand building as we did – and maybe even how to get a celebrity investor write your first cheqye. In doing so, she changed the way women think about topics such as periods and incontinence. She has also put a spotlight on why thinking sustainably about these topics isn't an option, it's essential. The average woman will use 12,000 to 16,000 tampons and sanitary pads in her lifetime. And why period poverty isn't a problem we can ignore (ModiBodi has donated 25,000 pairs of underwear to women in times of crisis and women in need).  In the beginning her products were seen as “taboo” by many large retailers. But Kristy got them talking. A lot has changed for women in the last thirty years - and for the better. But while we’re busy smashing glass ceilings, tackling institutionalised gender disparity and making change with the #metoo movement, sadly, when it comes to the statistics for ovarian cancer, very little has changed in that time. For Camilla Freeman-Topper, one half of the brother-sister Australian fashion institution that is Camilla and Marc, the statistics hit home. It was nearly thirty years ago that she lost her mother to ovarian cancer, when Camilla was just a child. “In Australia, three women die from ovarian cancer every day”, she tells us. “This is shocking.”  But inspired by her mother’s legacy, Camilla is doing something about it, with the Camilla & Marc ‘Ovaries. Talk About Them’ campaign. In this conversation she takes us right back to the start of her journey. To the memories she has of her mother and the values she instilled in Camilla and Marc. To the how and why of launching her own label and navigating the tricky fashion world for over a decade. To the role grief has played in her life, and to the way Covid has impacted her work and her role as a mother of four.  Despite the sobering statistics, ultimately this is a story of hope and empowerment, of driving for change and using something as simple as a t-shirt to make a difference. Nothing is off limits in this honest and at times, vulnerable chat, as she talks about her experience with depression (she experienced depression following the death of her father), bulling and racism and, how it’s “painfully ironic” that in a country populated by people who are all shades of brown, the standard of beauty is white. Priyanka’s parents taught her that confidence is something you can work to develop and something you have to work to maintain for life – and despite sixty-five movies and a two-decades-long career in India and the US, it’s something she continues to work on. We also talk about true love and what that means to her (Priyanka is married to Jonas Brother Nick Jonas).  And being an AllBright interview, we of course talk about the role of sisterhood in her life and the team of women she surrounds herself with. Yes, she’s a supermodel – my gosh is she a supermodel - but she’s also a powerful role model for all women. According to the fashion industry, she’s also plus size (and just so we’re clear – the outstated and frankly insulting label of plus size refers to any woman who is a size US 8 to 16).
