"Seeing the best part of humanity, everyone out there cheering... Thousands of people just there to help you finish this race. To me, that was so inspiring. We're inundated today with negative news stories and stuff that goes wrong and the bad side of humanity. This, to me, was pure good." In this episode, Claire talks about how she got into running, why she wanted to run the 2022 New York City Marathon, and why she decided to do it now, with two young children (ages 2 and 3, just 17 months apart!), one of which was going through a sleep regression during the bulk of Claire's training. The AMPire Diaries Episode 74: The Originals - “Farewell to Storyville” Alright, it's time for this week's contractually-obligated podcast episode. (Look, Claire Holt's not the only one we can make contract jokes about.) It's also time for: The Trial of Rebekah Mikaelson. That's right, this week, your favorite Vampire Diaries rewatch-slash-first-time watch (and mostly spoiler-free) combination podcast is discussing The Originals' “Farewell to Storyville” (Season 1, Episode 16). Which means we're accidentally doing two intros and talking: - LaToya crying at a Klaus horse. (Obviously, Jill wrote this.) - Jill's great ass and great hypocrisy. (Jill wrote this… and then LaToya finished it.) - Fuck Esther… but… what if she possessed a flop? - The power of MiFi. - The one they call honorable. - Father Kieran: Part of the COVID crew? - Does Cami make a good point this episode? - Klaus and Rebekah's sexual tension. - Our denial over The Originals (Seasons 1-4) leaving Netflix. Whoops. - Once again, much to our dismay, Bex, Sage, and Damon did NOT have a threesome. “TRAPPED IN THE CITY OF THE DEAD” (“Farewell to Storyville”) Whether you're a Vampire Diaries obsessive or newcomer, join along with hosts LaToya Ferguson (@lafergs—Vampire Diaries obsessive), Morgan Lutich (@LorganMutich—Vampire Diaries obsessive), and Jill Defiel (@jiilbobaggins—Vampire Diaries newcomer) on their new podcast journey. Our very Special Guest today is Rob Prior - Painter | Director | Producer From his position at the crossroads of fine art and Pop culture, Rob Prior is pushing the boundaries of contemporary art Working alongside international boxing phenom Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Rob created a pair of breathtaking portraits, which debuted at Art Bazel Miami. While at the event, Rob began painting a portrait of Louis Vuitton designer Virgil Abloh. What happened next is nothing short of historic. Quickly, the Canelo Portraits sold for $500,000. Moments later, a collector purchased the portrait of Abloh for a staggering $1 million dollars, marking one of the highest sales at Art Basel 2022. The Canelo portraits, as well as the Abloh piece, were also minted as 1-of-1 NFTs as part of the sale, putting Rob's works at the center of the art and NFT worlds. Creating his art in front of audiences, Rob paints with both hands, sometimes on two canvases at once, and often with his eyes closed. For his audiences, at comic cons and rap concerts, it is a mesmerizing experience. For Rob, it's just what he does. Once, when asked for a brief résumé, he responded flatly, “I make art.” And in some way, that's true. In other ways, though, it's a profoundly modest understatement for an artist who has been called one of the top intellectual property creators alive today. His paintings of monsters, myths, and superheroes have hung in some of the most prestigious museums around the world. Yet, Prior's creations go so much farther than just the art on the canvas. His diverse experience speaks volumes to his ability to balance the competing demands of almost every creative genre. Painter, sculptor, filmmaker – no creative medium is beyond his reach. He has worked almost non-stop as a professional artist since he was 13, and his commercial works include illustrations and covers for Dungeons & Dragons, sculptures and props for Joss Whedon's Firefly, and original monster creations for Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He's also completed numerous commissions for film studios, including LucasFilms productions, HBO's Game of Thrones, and more than a dozen other publications and production houses. He recently completed post-production his directorial debut, Painted Beauty, starring Claire Holt and Clifton Collins, Jr. He is currently at work on a second major motion picture. “Work harder than you ever thought you had to, dream bigger than you ever thought you could, and keep trying even when you are told to stop. Live every day like it was your last.” - Rob Prior Instagram: @robpriorart On the web: https://robprior.com

In today’s special episode for International Women’s Day, I chat to Australian actress Claire Holt. Claire lives in LA with her husband, Andrew and their baby boy, James. After spending close to 15 years on birth control, it took Claire’s body six months to establish a regular period once she went off the pill. On her second cycle, much to her shock and delight, she conceived. At her 10week scan she discovered that she’d experience a missed miscarriage (a miscarriage with no symptoms) and she admits that the experience was incredibly traumatic. "I don’t know how to describe it; it was such an overwhelming sense of loss and it was so much more significant than I had ever realised. I knew that 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage but…It almost diminishes the weight of it because it’s so common…I just didn’t realise how quickly you become attached to the baby,” she says. Claire had a D+C and talks about the importance of grieving and healing. She wasn’t ready to fall pregnant straight away so she took a few months to get her body and mind back before she decided to try again. James was conceived 5 months later and whilst Claire was elated, she was also fraught with anxiety. “I took pregnancy tests everyday, I got a blood test and was desperate for an early ultrasound. Each time I had a scan I was so panicked that I’d see a baby without a heartbeat. I was anxious until the moment he was in my arms.” Claire experienced a relatively smooth pregnancy although she showed early and James measured big, hence she was overwhelmed by the comments from people remarking on her size. Never perturbed, she continued to see her OBGYB and doula, who both guided her through her anxieties and fears. She scheduled an induction at 39weeks to fit with her OBGYN’s schedule and to give herself the best opportunity to have a natural birth (considering James’ size). After experiencing a week of false labour, she had a stretch and sweep and lost her mucus plug mere hours later. Induction began at midnight that night and by 5am the next morning her cervix had softened so her OB decided to insert a foley balloon to soften and open the cervix which Claire admits was the most excruciating pain she has ever experienced. By 8am her OB decided to break her waters which intensified the contractions and whilst Claire was adamant that she wanted a drug-free labour, by noon she conceded that she couldn’t do it anymore. She opted for a walking epidural that really took the edge off her contractions but still allowed her to stay mobile. Unfortunately after three to four hours she hadn’t progressed so she was given pitocin which helped get her to 10cm. “The pushing process was this really amazing, primal feeling. I had a room full of amazing women - nurses, my doula, my OB…and to be surrounded by these women who were guiding me to bring this baby earthside, was magical.” Claire only pushed for 10minutes but James had shoulder dystocia so the OB used his hand to manoeuvre his shoulder and he was born shortly afterward. Claire only had one small tear which she credits to her OB’s use of oil and massage during delivery. After a few nights in hospital, Claire headed home confused thanks to conflicting messages from the midwives about breastfeeding. So began a challenging experience that included a tongue tie, allergies and limited supply due to stress. Claire’s postpartum experience was overwhelming and anxiety-ridden. “I was so terrified that James would suffocate in the night…I had this crazy, awful image that someone in her my was going to stop breathing. I thought I was going to drop him or hurt him and I’d obsessively check the monitor if I wasn’t in the same room,” she says. She attributes her anxiety to the confluence of sleep deprivation and the almighty experience of bringing a baby into the world. Being open and honest about her feelings early on was a catalyst for change. She had weekly appointments with her therapist, she opted to give up breastfeeding and when James started sleeping through at four months old, she recognised a significant shift in her mental health. James is about to celebrate his first birthday and Claire is adamant that all mothers should do what’s best for them as well as what’s best for the baby. Topics include: miscarriage, missed miscarriage, birth control, natural birth, OBGYN, foley balloon, induction, walking epidural, natural birth, shoulder dystocia, postpartum anxiety.

Cloverleaf Radio's host The Host with the Most Jimmy Falcon welcomes Actor David Lipper back to the show! David grew up in Montreal and moved to Los Angeles immediately after completing his BFA in Musical Theater from Emerson College in Boston. It didn't take long for one time head of Warner Brothers Television (now head of CBS), Leslie Moonvees, to recognize Lipper's ability for comedy. Lipper was quickly given the starring role in the Kaufman/Bright/Crane pilot, Reality Check, playing opposite a young Tiffany Thiessen, Giovani Ribisi, and 2 time Oscar winner, Hillary Swank. The other pilot Kaufman/Bright /Crane made that year was the mega hit Friends. When Reality Check didn't go, Moonvees put Lipper on the Warner Brothers hit show, Full House, where he played D.J.'s boyfriend, Viper, for that final season. Lipper also got to showcase his musical theater roots, by playing in the show's band, with John Stamos, and even playing live his own original music on the show. Eager to go against type and show his range, Lipper soon after played the rapist Jace in the hit NBC movie, She Fought Alone. Lipper has bounced around between playing hero and villain in both comedy and drama ever since. In 2017 Lipper played the villain known as the Nightingale Killer on the CW show, Frequency, but then played the hero in the 2018 Amazon/Vision Films release, The Unwilling. Lipper stars as the hard nosed Detective Carter opposite Kevin Mcnally, Claire Holt and Clifton Collins Jr in the highly anticipated feature, Painted Beauty, due in 2019. Lipper currently has 3 other films slated to shoot in 2019 so stay tuned for more! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jianetwork/support

Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. Though around for a bit, British director Johannes Roberts came to note to genre fans with his 2012 alien apocalypse film Storage 24. Now in 2017, he has returned with his latest horror thriller, 47 Meters Down, starring Mandy Moore and Claire Holt. Shark films re-emerged in popularity with last years The Shallows and 47 Meters Down joins the latest in a very popular subgenre. Sisters Lisa and Kate arrive in Mexico for a vacation. Originally Lisa’s boyfriend was to attend, but right before the trip, the two split. Very blue and quite depressed, Kate decides to cheer up her sister by suggesting all sorts of fun activities. Swimming, partying, sunbathing, fancy dinners, but then some local guys they meet suggest cage diving. Kate immediately says yes but Lisa has her doubts. Originally to be released by Dimension Films under the title In the Deep, the movie was sold off to Entertainment Studios who changed the title back to its original 47 Meters Down and gave it a theatrical release. Receiving decent reviews, the movie did make its modest budget back and then some. Dark Discussions takes a look at this new danger-in-the-water film and gives their critique. As always we welcome your comments: darkdiscussions@aol.com (written email or attached mp3 files) WWW.DARKDISCUSSIONS.COM

Melissa Benoist got her break when she was cast as a female lead in the William McKinley High School storyline on Glee when most of the Fox dramedy’s original stars saw their characters either move to New York or leave the show. Based on the characters from DC Comics, the project, from Warner Bros. TV and studio-based Berlanti Prods., centers on Kara Zor-El (Benoist). Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Written by Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler, the project went through an extensive casting process, with several young actresses testing for the lead. Benoist had been consistently in the mix, first alongside Claire Holt and more recently considered along with Elizabeth Lail. Benoist, repped by UTA, Anonymous Content and Frankfurt, Kurnit, Klein & Setz, has a supporting role in the feature Whiplash, which is nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. She will next be seen in the film The Longest Ride, opposite Britt Robertson and Scott Eastwood.
