In this final episode of Season 7 of Style DNA I go on a Style journey with a true icon of British design, my friend, the  world-renowned Interior Designer, Author of 10 books, affectionately dubbed the 'Queen of Taupe', ...the titian haired, inspirational pocket-rocket power house that is Kelly Hoppen CBE. I first met Kelly when she was looking for a wedding dress...there are some designs that you never forget as a designer and to this day, 35 years on, I could sketch that dress, coat and shoes precisely ... all very pre-Raphaelite...I was thrilled to learn that Kelly still owns it and what's more still wears the floor length velvet coat over jeans. She talks openly about how long it took her to find her style and how much more relaxed she is in making her purchasing decisions now that she has her style formula...her Style DNA.We laugh about her going to give a talk at Bloomberg and how she dressed up to fit in with what she thought was expected of her, as though she was going into a boardroom, only to be told by someone very close to her to go and change, asking "where has Kelly Hoppen gone?!" and reminding her that Bloomberg had invited her because of who she was. This was clearly a pivotal moment for her, and the lesson was to never lose your own identity because of what you perceive to be someone else's expectations of you. Such good advice.Of course, I had to ask her about her time as a WAG when she dated the footballer Sol Campbell (16 years her junior) and she talks honestly about some of her fashion choices being "quite questionable" for a time. Now she lives between London and the Cotswolds and we discuss what country dressing means in that uber glam part of the country...it's certainly not jeans and tweeds! But more importantly, we chat about her being chosen by L'Oreal to be one of the faces of their brilliant Age Perfect Campaign...a real pinch me moment for Kelly but one that she truly deserved. The Kelly I know has always worked diligently at her fitness and wellbeing and at 65 she has never looked better, clearly comfortable in her skin, and more relaxed than ever. Bravo Kelly and thank you for sharing your Style journey, Prozac boots and all!I hope you enjoy this episode ...it was a treat for me to take a journey through time and style with someone I have known for so long...thank you @kellyhoppen for friendship and this style chat xx

Jamie Waller is dyslexic and a serial entrepreneur, philanthropist, and investor. Growing up in London's East End, teachers told Jamie he wouldn't amount to anything. However, he benefited from the supportive efforts of the Imps Motorcycle Display Team and the Prince's Trust. Despite leaving school with no qualifications he started multiple businesses, became a multimillionaire in his twenties and featured in a prime-time TV show that followed him starting his first business. Currently, Jamie owns a venture capital fund, has thirteen companies under management and employs over 1,000 people worldwide. He is the Founder of The Prince's Trust Enterprise Network, an organisation committed to empowering less advantaged youth as established by his Majesty the King of England. Jamie is the author of Unsexy Business (2017) and The Dyslexic Edge (5th July 2024), the idea for which came from a conversation with one of the most famous dyslexics on earth, Sir Richard Branson during a cycle ride in early 2022. The Dyslexic Edge challenges the narrative that views dyslexia as a deficit or impediment to success, presenting compelling research and case studies from interviewing some of the worlds most successful dyslexics (Paul Orfelia, Theo Paphitis, Duncan Bannatyne and Kelly Hoppen to name a few), to demonstrate quite the opposite. By delving into the lives and experiences of some of the best-known dyslexic minds worldwide, Jamie and Dr Helen Taylor highlight the distinct advantage that dyslexic thinking brings. In 2018, Cranfield University awarded Jamie Entrepreneur of the Year. In 2023 he accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of His Majesty King Charles III and The Prince's Trust at the Business Champion Awards. When he's not at work, Jamie can be found embracing some of the world's most exciting adventures. This year he's taking part in the United Arab Emirates desert challenge, in 2025 he will compete in Africa Eco Race and in 2026 is going into Space with Branson's team at Virgin Galactic. 35% of entrepreneurs have dyslexia. Up to 50% of people in prison have dyslexia.  It's clear that, for people with Dyslexia, the path between success and ending up on the wrong side of the law can be narrow. So what's different between these groups of people and what's the thing that sets them head on the right path? For entrepreneur, philanthropist, and author, Jamie Waller, it all comes down to the support from people in your early years of your life. Jamie is a serial entrepreneur and the author of the book ‘The Dyslexic Edge'.Growing up in the west end of London, Jamie's teachers had written him off from the start and didn't give him the support he needed at school. If it hadn't been as a result of a motorcycle display team and a supportive mother, Jamie believes he could have ended up in the wrong group of dyslexic people, being let down by society and living a life in prison.Having been given the chance to join the Imps Motorcycle Display team with help from a supportive mum, Jamie turned his back on education and followed a life into entrepreneurship. Despite leaving school with no qualifications he started multiple businesses, became a multimillionaire in his twenties and featured in a prime-time TV show that followed him starting his first business. The idea for the book ‘The Dyslexic Edge' came from a conversation with one of the most famous dyslexics on earth, Sir Richard Branson during a cycle ride in early 2022. She has an unstoppable global brand, her name has become a verb synonymous with class and style, she's a former Dragon, a renowned presenter and author, and a champion of British enterprise, Kelly Hoppen is without doubt an icon. However, Kelly's story isn't one of overnight success. She was relentlessly bullied at school, she's dyslexic, she suffered from severely low self-esteem, and her father passed away when she was just 16 years old. At 16 and a half, she convinced her stepfather's friend to let her redesign his kitchen. Around this time, her friend was having an affair with a famous racing driver, so she became the interior designer of his house as a front to their affair… and the rest, as they say, is history. Over the next four decades, Kelly has done work for some of the most well-known names on the planet, from the Beckhams to P. Diddy, and worked with homes, yachts, jets, hotels, restaurants, and more. She's written over a dozen books and won numerous awards. We met up with Kelly at her studio in West London to talk about how business has changed, building a global brand, being a Dragon, and much more. We are back from our cruise on the Celebrity Edge. Now that we have taken another cruise, we have even more questions from you all about the cruise industry, but specifically about Celebrity Cruises. This time, I (Shannon) took my mom along with me, so this episode was recorded from our stateroom, on our last evening on the ship. We will follow-up with a thorough blog post in greater detail but in the meantime, we are addressing your immediate questions now. In this episode we chat about: How Celebrity Cruises handles pre-boarding and embarkation. Covid-safety on board and at ports. The Retreat - super lush VIP access on board. Restaurants and the culinary game on board Celebrity Edge. Exercise and how we made all attempts (not really) to keep those extra calories off while we were cruising. The changes to gratuity/tips to Celebrity Cruises post-covid. The Spa, Aquaclass status to the Thermal Spa Entertainment on board Celebrity Edge. Ship aesthetic, Nate Berkus being the design ambassador. Kelly Hoppen, CBE designer of The Retreat. Our stateroom in the Aquaclass. The ahhh-mazing service aboard Celebrity Edge Our fave: the shore excursions! Episode resources: You can find information about Celebrity Cruises here. We encourage you to check with the latest procedures for boarding as they may have changed since this podcast recording. Show notes for this episode can be found here. We will be posting an in-depth blog post here on our experience. Sign-up to be “in the know” with our upcoming podcast guest list, and be able to submit questions before we record each episode. You can always find us on our blog or Instagram and videos from our trip can be found on YouTube. Please let us know your thoughts on this episode, or others. Are you struggling with the guilt of being a Mum whilst growing and scaling your business? Multi-award winning designer, investor, author and Mum, Kelly Hoppen CBE joins the show to share her experience on what it takes to be successful, the positive mindset entrepreneurs need to grasp opportunities and why being ‘conscious' and having ‘gratitude' go a long way in business. Listen in as Rob and Kelly discuss her journey from Designer to Dragon and the lessons she's learnt throughout 40 years in business. KEY TAKEAWAYS   As a Mum, you only feel guilty when deep down you haven't given enough time to your kids. It's important to divide up your time and always be conscious of the fact your growing and scaling a business but that you're also a mum. You need to find a balance, be passionate about what you do and always ask for help.   Women have been programmed to believe that men have it better but they don't. It's all about having a positive mindset and focusing on what you want to achieve rather than going into business with the mantra that men have it better. If the world economy is going slow down over the next few years entrepreneurs must view this as an opportunity and with social media anything is possible. Entrepreneurs need to have a positive mindset and use the bubble we're in launch their keep going, keep testing and launch their business. When investing in a business or launching a new idea you need to know all of the information available, do your due diligence and market research and most importantly be passionate about what you're doing so that you fully commit to the cause. Too often people are just on auto-pilot but In business, you must be conscious. Having a conscious mind is stopping for a minute to plan and organise your day. Your mental state is the most important part fo your body and the language that you speak will affect your interactions with others, being conscious is strategically knowing what you're doing and why you're doing it   BEST MOMENTS “Women have an ability to think about situations systematically rather than just shoot from the hip” “You define yourself by what you do each day.” “If you're an entreprneur you're born with a certain mindset to always ask how can something be improved, how can it be changed for the better.” “If you're able to find your passion and you love what you do that is when you will be a success in business” “There's been some huge successes and some huge failures on Dragons Den” “What you appreciate, appreciates” “The Government have to support self-employed people during the COVID-19 pandemic”     VALUABLE RESOURCES bit.ly/Robsupporter https://kellyhoppeninteriors.com/ https://www.headtalks.com/ https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-kelly-hoppen-show/id1474139882 https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kelly-Hoppen-Design-Masterclass-Achieve/dp/1909342025 ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator.
