Listeners of What's That Like? that love the show mention:The What's That Like? podcast is an incredible show that offers a diverse range of content and captivating storytelling. As someone who resides in the central Illinois area, I find it fascinating to hear about local stories and events that I may not have been aware of otherwise. The variety on this show is truly awesome and makes it worth giving a listen. John, the host, is an engaging, witty, talented, and funny interviewer who knows how to keep his audience hooked throughout each episode. I highly recommend this podcast to anyone looking for an entertaining and informative experience.
One of the best aspects of The What's That Like? podcast is John's ability to encapsulate the true stories of south central Illinois. He brings a genuine sense of care and passion for the area, which makes the content even more compelling. It's refreshing to listen to someone who genuinely cares about their local community and takes the time to share its stories with others. Additionally, John's interviewing skills are top-notch. He knows how to ask thought-provoking questions that dive deep into the minds and experiences of his guests, resulting in truly engaging conversations.
While The What's That Like? podcast has many strengths, one potential downside is that it caters primarily to listeners from central Illinois or those interested in regional stories. This could limit its appeal to a broader audience who may not have a personal connection to the area or be familiar with its events and culture. However, even if you're not from central Illinois or have never been there, the quality of the storytelling and interviews may still make it worth checking out.
In conclusion, The What's That Like? podcast is an amazing show that offers a unique blend of entertainment and information. John Knowles' talent as an interviewer shines through in every episode as he delves into various topics related to south central Illinois. While it may cater more towards a specific geographic audience, anyone can appreciate the engaging storytelling and genuine care that goes into each episode. Give your ears a treat and subscribe to this podcast - you won't regret it.

Proud to bring you Mr. Mount Olive Wrestling, Ron Ryan. He started wrestling in college in the '60s, and came to Mt. Olive as a teacher when he and a few HS boys decided to start a wrestling program in 1969. Fifty years, 400+ Wins, a Hall of Fame induction, and 1000+ athletes later, he calls it a career, and I was honored to have him on the What's That Like Podcast. Phenomenal conversation, unfiltered, tells it like it is, and he backs up his athletes and friends. In the early days of the region, settlers struggled to survive, facing devastating disease and death. Their tragedies would eventually give way to the triumph of thriving communities, including the county seat of Carlinville. The town grew to take its place in Illinois history, playing host to Abraham Lincoln and serving as a stop for America's "Mother Road," Route 66. It would also become notorious as the home of the infamous "Million Dollar Courthouse," which created a scandal that rocked not only the county but made national news. The region gained further infamy during Prohibition when Macoupin County became a hotbed for bootleg liquor, vice, and organized crime. The violence of the days of labor strikes, murders, and terror left many secrets behind in the form of local legends and ghostly tales. Now, it's time for those secrets to be revealed! Join Macoupin County native Kaylan Schardan as she reveals the dark and haunted history of Carlinville and Macoupin County. Readers will thrill to the sensational stories of murder, scandal, and the unexplained and discover the true stores of some of the most haunted buildings in Central Illinois. Every town has a story to tell - and the spirits that linger in Carlinville are finally ready to speak!
