This week in the third and final segment of our interview, Gary DeHart talks about how having a crappy seat at the Winston Cup awards banquet fueled his determination to win it all that much more. 1996 turned out to be quite interesting with Hendrick Motorsports drivers Terry Labonte and Jeff Gordon and their teams going after each other for the championship. And despite coming out on top in 1996, DeHart opted to step down the following season due to burnout. Gary concludes the session with a breakdown of his extraordinary work in the field of safety in NASCAR and gives us as close a look at T-Rex as anybody's going to get. We then took a look at the November 14, 1996 issue of Winston Cup Scene. It's an extraordinarily good weekend for the Labonte family in Atlanta, with Bobby winning the 1996 season finale and Terry winning the Winston Cup championship. There are features on the evolution of the NASCAR roll cage and Brett Bodine's first year as an owner-driver, and coverage of Randy LaJoie's first Busch Series championship with BACE Motorsports. This issue also features an incredible photo of a fiery crash at Homestead. NOTE: This show is not associated in any way with American City Business Journals, owner of the Scene brand. We get things kicked off in a big way this week with the greatest Dave Marcis story you'll ever hear. Then the second installment of our interview, Gary DeHart gives us an inside look at the breakup of Hendrick Motorsports' Darrell Waltrip-Waddell Wilson Dream Team, his role in the making of Days of Thunder and how that propelled him into a crew chief's job with NASCAR Hall of Famers Ricky Rudd and Terry Labonte. We then dig into the June 18, 1987 edition of Grand National Scene. Tim Richmond wins at Pocono in his return to the sport after a lengthy illness. Richard Petty gets relief help from Joe Ruttman. There are features on Sterling Marlin and Brett Bodine, a photo bio on H.B. Bailey and news … timely for today … of an event honoring a NASCAR disaster relief effort. Welcome to October!!! For the first episode of the month we are bringing you a cozy romcom.
Smilin' and George bring in Labonte to review the Week 21 results and some regular season stats.
Take a deep dive with us this week into the life and mind of All That Remains frontman Phil Labonte! Phil and Johnny discuss the metalcore scene from when their bands started gaining traction in the early 2000's to today, and the release of new All That Remains music. The journey for Phil to this point has had its ups and downs, but through his hard work and dedication not just to the music, but to his fans, he is ready for the band to move forward. The two guys continue to talk about the gratitude they truly feel to their fan bases and detail exactly what it has meant to their careers and the humility in life they find from it. The music talk continues as they get into the record making “business” and give a look behind the curtain to “how the sausage is made” when it comes to dealing with record labels and personalities. Mr. Labonte shares what other activities he's been filling his time with including podcasting as a regular on the Timcast Podcast discussing politics and pop culture. Although these two may not share all the same views politically, they find similarities and common ground in their opinions and even share some laughs about some of the absurdity in our government and policies. Take it in with a watch, and a listen as these two long time acquaintances become friends. Streaming everywhere all at once!
Can you believe the Littleton Food Co-op turns 15 in 2024!? You know what they say – time flies when you're cooperating together! On this episode of That's Rad, host Anastasia sits down with Brian Labonte, current Assistant Operations Manager of the Littleton Co-op. Brian is one of the original ten employees from when the Co-op opened its doors in 2009. You may recognize Brian from his most prominent role as Produce Manager, but he's actually worked in over six departments throughout the store! His wealth of knowledge about the history of the Co-op is so widespread, you'd hardly believe he didn't know anything about co-ops upon starting here… or so he says. Brian also plays along with Anastasia's poorly drawn out metaphor of the Co-op being like a teenage daughter we have to raise and buy a car for. Hear the story of Brian and the Co-op all in this episode! The Littleton Food Co-op has been your community-owned, community-oriented marketplace since 2009. The Co-op works for the North Country of NH and the NEK of VT, not some big grocery conglomerate. We're actually owned by over 10,000 real people who committed to supporting our local economy. The Littleton Food Co-op employs local people, sells locally produced goods, and provides a space for local folks to gather and cooperate together. We return the love to our community through generous donations and support of local non-profits, and supplying the good foods that folks want to see. It's all served up at fair prices with the best customer service around! See it all for yourself just off Exit 41 in Littleton or online at littletoncoop.com. No membership is required to shop – everyone is welcome at the Littleton Food Co-op ♥

This week, Hermie and The Senator rev up the engines to talk about their race team (Sadler/Stanley Racing) bringing home a big win at Tri-County Speedway with their #18va open-wheel modified race car driven by their NASCAR® Hall of Fame expert wheel man and good buddy, Bobby Labonte! What a difference a week makes, as they discuss how a tough season for their race team in both the Whelen Modified (NASCAR®) and Southern Modified (SMART) series this year was all turned around in one race, as Labonte dominated the field on Saturday night in the SMART Modified Series. Hear the boys breakdown their racing season, as they go over what it took to finally make it to victory lane. Then, Sadler and the Senator talk about their skill game lawsuit, where they stand and where they go from here as they fight for small businesses in Virginia for the right to participate in the emerging gaming marketplace in the state alongside the out of state casinos that have invaded the Commonwealth. Hermie and Bill then finish up discussing the attack on Israel, how the United States may have unwittingly played a role through the Biden Administration's desire to coddle Iran, the stupid things the left is saying about how its Israel's fault, and even discuss when our own state legislators say stupid things instead of standing firm against terrorism and supporting the only democracy in the Middle East. The boys go remote to Ace Speedway in North Carolina as the SMART Modified series heats back up for its final stretch to the 2023 SMART Championship. Listen to them as they tape the first part of the episode in Hermie's Chevy Tahoe (from Boyd Chevrolet, of course), talking about the current state of national politics and the upcoming Presidential election in 2024. Then Sadler, the Senator and Shep venture inside the historic short track to take up residence in their Sadler/Stanley Racing Hauler to interview some of the most famous personalities in the NASCAR(r) racing industry. First, they sit down and have some laughs with their SSR driver and NASCAR Hall of Famer (and one of NASCAR's 75 greatest drivers of all time) Bobby Labonte! Then, when Bobby has to run to the SMART Modified Driver's meeting, Hermie grabs one of the all-time greats of racing, legend Tommy Baldwin to have some more laughs with the fellas, and make sure you listen as Tommy poignantly discusses his latest fight for victory -- against cancer. And finally, Hermie and Bill are able to corral their other driver, NASCAR great (and another one of those NASCAR 75 greatest drivers of all time), recent Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) Champion Ryan Newman, to talk all things racing as they have a good laugh over them being his so-called "bosses." Bobby Labonte is a former NASCAR Cup Series champion who now spends his time … racing. Labonte is keeping busy with SRX and modifieds, as well as television work for Fox Sports. Labonte explains what keeps him coming back to SRX; how competitive the series is; getting to compete against the best drivers from all over; how this chapter of his racing career is different; why it's hard for drivers to give up racing; Labonte's relationship with the media as a driver to how its changed doing Fox Sports work; giving opinions and looking at the sport as a whole; how TV has changed his view or understanding of the sport; his first booth experience at Darlington with Fox Sports versus second one recently at Martinsville; the disconnect between what fans enjoy in a race and what drivers enjoy; if he wants to do more booth work; if NASCAR has a responsibility to keep former drivers involved; how to define this version of Bobby Labonte.
