Tonight's special guest is Mary Knight, MSW, from Portland, Oregon, a survivor of child ography, family controlled human trafficking, incest, ritual abuse and more. She's a social worker and filmmaker. Her most recent film, "Am I Crazy? My journey to determine whether my memories are true," is a documentary about Mary's recovered memories of childhood trauma. It was twenty years ago when her aunt disclosed her own recall of generational abuse. "Soon images of extreme abuse surfaced for me," Mary says. She'd not remembered much of her childhood torture until she was 37 years old. "Society does not acknowledge some forms of child abuse. Adult survivors are more likely to be believed than children, but most survivors of extreme childhood abuse NEVER feel safe enough to go public." Mary says that before her recovered memories if she'd been asked, "Were you sexually abused as a child?" she would have said no. In 2014, Mary traveled across the nation to interview experts representing all sides of the 'recovered memory' controversy, allowing them to ask her intimate, probing questions. "I reevaluated my recovered memories," she says, ".. on camera." Included are psychiatrist Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, noted psychologist Dr. Elizabeth Loftus, and survivor/advocate and fellow NAASCA family member former Miss America Marilyn Van Debur. Mary wants copies of her film "Am I Crazy?" in the right hands. "Free downloads are available to survivors who can't otherwise easily afford them."
