Friends of the Rosary: In yesterday's reading (John 11:1-45) about the extraordinary miracle of Lazarus' resurrection, the sisters Martha and Mary asked the Lord Jesus, "Master, the one you love is ill." When Jesus heard this, He said, "This illness is not to end in death but is for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it." Through His extreme humility and merciful love towards us, the Son of God defeated not only our sins but also death. His resurrection taught us that what we call death is a transition into a perfected life in eternity. This changes our limited concept of human existence. Here on earth, everything is imperfect, even our love and dedication to our spouses, children, and families whom we cherish. For example, my wife Maria Blanca loved me with her entire mind and heart, but now she loves me with her eternal and perfected soul without any limits. Today's Rosary was recorded last Saturday on the Solemnity Day of the Annunciation at St. Michael the Archangel Parish, in Greenwich, Connecticut. Friends of the Rosary: We pray today's Joyful Mysteries from St. Michael the Archangel Parish, in Greenwich, Connecticut. Fr. Richard Murphy leads the Holy Rosary. In the reading today (Lk 18:9-14), Lord Jesus says: “Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” The Son of God addressed the parable of two people who went up to the temple area to pray; one was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector. The Pharisee prided himself on being the perfect religious practitioner. The tax collector was ashamed of his sins and asked mercy from the Lord. The Divinity loves people humble in spirit and who ask for mercy. The arrogant are far from the Kingdom. A daily news briefing from Catholic News Agency, powered by artificial intelligence. Ask your smart speaker to play “Catholic News,” or listen every morning wherever you get podcasts. www.catholicnewsagency.com - The Claretian Missionaries' Independent Delegation for the Antilles reported that on February 7 one of its priests was kidnapped in Haiti. Father Antoine Macaire Christian Noah was abducted in the morning when he was going to his missionary community in Kazal, about 20 miles north of Port-au-Prince, the country's capital. The kidnappers have contacted “the superior of his missionary community asking for money in exchange for his release,” according to the Claretians. Macaire is originally from Cameroon and has been the parochial vicar at Saint Michael the Archangel Parish in Kazal for one year. In recent months, armed gangs have gained significant control over the country in Haiti and also are attacking Catholic schools and hospitals. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253591/priest-kidnapped-in-haiti-captors-demand-ransom Three prominent Christian leaders in Syria issued a joint letter Tuesday calling for an end to sanctions against Syria, which they say are unjustly preventing vital aid from reaching the people most affected by the devastating earthquake that struck the region earlier this week. The February 7 letter was signed by the Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarch Youssef the first, the Syrian Orthodox Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem the second, and the Greek Orthodox Patriarch John the tenth. They wrote: “We, the three patriarchs with the heads of churches in Syria, demand from the United Nations and the countries imposing sanctions on Syria to lift the embargo and unjust sanctions imposed on the Syrian people, and to take exceptional measures and immediate initiatives to secure the delivery of the much-needed relief and humanitarian aid.” According to the latest available estimates as of midday Wednesday, the 7.8-magnitude quake has left at least 11,600 people dead in Turkey and Syria. Many international Catholic aid agencies, such as Caritas, Catholic Relief Services, and Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) are soliciting donations, mobilizing resources, and coordinating relief efforts. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253590/christian-leaders-in-syria-call-for-an-end-to-unjust-sanctions-that-they-say-hamper-aid-to-the-needy The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) announced Monday that it is switching its fixed-date religious celebrations to match the Gregorian calendar used by the Church in the West. Ukrainian Catholics have been among the few remaining sects under the papacy to celebrate holidays according to the Julian calendar, which celebrates Christmas on January 7 and Epiphany on January 19. The Russian Orthodox Church and other Eastern Churches under the Patriarchate of Moscow follow the Julian calendar. Now, Catholics in Ukraine will celebrate feasts on the same dates as Catholics in the US and other Western nations, meaning Christmas will be observed on December 25 and Epiphany on January 6. The change will take place at the beginning of the Ukrainian Catholic Church's liturgical year, September 1, 2023. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/253587/ukrainian-catholics-will-now-celebrate-christmas-on-dec-25 Today, the Church celebrates Saint Apollonia of Alexandria, a holy virgin who suffered martyrdom in Alexandria during a local uprising against the Christians in the early 3rd century. https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/saint/st-apollonia-of-alexandria-142

Friends of the Rosary: Yesterday, one of the friends of the Rosary Network, Scherezada Morales Roman, from Orlando, Florida, told us about her youngest sister, Natasha Ramos Roman, 33 years old, who has been diagnosed with stage four cancer, metastatic cancer. She has two little ones, aged 5 and 1. The special intention of today's Rosary is for the recovery of Natasha. Scherezada and Natasha, we feel your pain. We also ask María Blanca to intercede for this lovely family. Fr. Ian, from St. Michael the Archangel Parish, in Greenwich, Connecticut, asked us to direct prayers to Maria Blanca, as we all believe she is with the Communion of Saints. Scherezada and Natasha, please be hopeful. God has always a plan – a good one. We won't understand it immediately; it might even take our whole life. My advice would be to pray and pray and trust in Jesus Christ and His Blessed Mother. Maria Blanca, who had an extremely painful four-week stay at the ICU, told me that God knows what He is doing. Please be hopeful while you embrace the Cross of the Savior. Ave Maria! Friends of the Rosary: Today's Rosary was recorded last Tuesday, April 19, at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Greenwich, Connecticut. It was prayed before the presentation of María Blanca's book “We live for God”. Cristina Ventosa, a friend and a parishioner at St. Michael, prayed the Rosary with Mikel A., author of the book and husband of María Blanca. It was an emotional prayer in the memory of María Blanca, who died on October 28th, 2021. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! Friends of the Rosary: Yesterday, we presented María Blanca's book “We live for God”. Over thirty friends attended the event at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Greenwich, Connecticut. Almost everyone knew María Blanca. Her kindness and faith were remembered. Your host Mikel talk for one hour about María Blanca's suffering and joy in her battle against cancer and toxic epidermal necrolysis. María Blanca was a faithful mother and wife who lived the marriage sacrament with full commitment. At the end of her life, God gave her the grace of experiencing the Paschal Mystery of the Passion and Resurrection. She died receiving the grace of a happy death. Father Ian Jeremiah encouraged everyone to pray to María Blanca for one specific intention, and report the outcome, if it's remarkable, to the Bishop in Bridgeport. This way the cause for sanctity might be open after five years — which is the time that the Catholic Church sets for any cause. Naturally, this invitation is extended to the entire community of the Rosary Network. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! This week's panelists are Deacons Dr. Greg Webster, host and Deacon of St. Raphael the Archangel Parish in Old Mill Creek, IL, Richard Hudzik, Vicar for Deacons, Archdiocese of Chicago and Dave Egan formerly of Victory Lakes.
What’s a DRE? That’s how we led off our chat this week with two great directors of religious education in the Diocese of Camden, the Caso sisters. Lisa is the DRE at The Parish of All Saints in Millville, NJ, and Karen is the DRE at Saint Gabriel the Archangel Parish in Carney’s Point, NJ. For most of their adult lives they have been committed to religious education programs around the diocese and were instrumental in our co-host Mike’s formation as a young adult. The duo talk with us about the effort they put into their religious education programs, the importance of finding ways to make faith a part of your daily life, and also how they are able to keep themselves educated and energized. It’s a great chat that wanders into all sorts of areas!
