Charles Caudrelier est l'un des grands noms de la course au large, notamment premier vainqueur d'un tour du monde en Ultime avec l'équipe Arkea. Il participe actuellement au développement du Gitana 18 (Maxi Edmond de Rothschild), un trimaran géant basé à Lorient en vue de la Route du Rhum 2026, mobilisant une équipe d'environ 25 personnes. Ces bateaux Ultime atteignent des dimensions extrêmes : jusqu'à 33 m de long, 23 m de large, un mât de 38 m, et environ 7 tonnes de carbone.La navigation moderne est devenue ultra-technologique, proche d'une écurie de Formule 1, avec l'usage de simulateurs et de jumeaux virtuels. Pourtant, Charles insiste : le marin reste décisif. Les sensations — mains, pieds, ouïe, vision — ne peuvent pas être entièrement remplacées par le numérique. Pour lui, rien ne remplace le temps passé sur l'eau.Son parcours mêle marine marchande, ingénierie et sport, avec une forte évolution dans la préparation physique et mentale. Aujourd'hui, l'entraînement est structuré, intense, et essentiel à la performance. La gestion du doute, du stress et de la solitude est un enjeu majeur, notamment en course en solitaire, qu'il trouve parfois plus simple que la gestion d'un équipage.Il revient sur ses grandes aventures humaines, notamment la Volvo Ocean Race avec Franck Cammas : 9 mois de compétition, fatigue extrême, diversité culturelle, gestion des égos et importance du respect mutuel. L'humain est central dans la réussite collective.Charles évoque aussi les risques en mer, les moments de peur (surtout près des côtes), la gestion du calme plat, la vitesse extrême en vent fort, et son goût pour la compétition et le dépassement de soi.Sur le plan personnel, il parle de l'équilibre familial, de l'impact de l'éloignement, et de la transmission de sa passion à ses enfants — même s'ils ne pratiquent pas la voile. Malgré un Paris-Roubaix compliqué, la structure dirigée par Emmanuel Hubert est en effet de nouveau parvenue à combler l'écart sur les formations devant elle au classement. Ceci notamment grâce à de belles performances réalisées par Kevin Vauquelin (Tour du Pays Basque) et Ewen Costiou (Région Pays de la Loire Tour).

L'enseignement principal cette semaine, c'est que la formation Arkea - B&B Hôtels poursuit sa folle remontée sur la Cofidis au classement UCI. Reste à savoir si les hommes d'Emmanuel Hubert poursuivront sur leur lancée dans les semaines et venir, et aussi si Cédric Vasseur sera en mesure d'insuffler une dynamique positive à son effectif.
