Tiede-ja kulttuuriministeri Mari-Leena Talvitie on myöntänyt kymmenelle taiteilijalle ja toimijalle kulttuurin Suomi-palkinnot, joista yksi myönnettiin kunniakirjan muodossa. Palkinnon sai mm. oululainen tanssitaiteilija ja koreografi Pirjo Yli-Maunula. Palkitsemisperustelujen mukaan hän on tehnyt mittavan uran lukuisissa eri tehtävissä esittävän taiteen kentällä niin kotimaassa kuin kansainvälisesti. Yli-Maunulan monisyinen työ on vaikuttanut laajasti ja syvästi tanssialan kehitykseen Suomessa. Taiteellisen työnsä ohella hän on ollut mukana luomassa ja kehittämässä pohjoisen Suomen tanssin toimintarakenteita 1980-luvun alusta lähtien. Pirjo Yli-Maunulan teoksissa ainutlaatuista on rikas sisällöllinen puhuttelevuus, immersiivisyys sekä eri taiteenalojen lomittuminen. Hänen tinkimätön työnsä esittävän taiteen edistämiseksi on yli 20:n vuoden ajan mahdollistanut kansainvälisen tason tanssi- ja sirkusteosten tuottamisen Ouluun. Vuodesta 1993 lähtien jaettu palkinto on suuruudeltaan 12 660 euroa.

The Tiede family had gone to spend Christmas at the family cabin in Oakley, Utah. Taylor and Deli shot their mother, father, and grandmother and planned to burn down the home. The sisters owe their survival to their heroic father, Rolf, who, though wounded, was able to get on a snowmobile and alert his brother, Randy, to call 911. When 39 year old Bernie Tiede confessed to the murder of his friend and companion, 81 year old Marjorie Nugent in November 1996, the revelation came as a shock to the small town of Carthage, Texas. The two had been inseparable friends since the death of Nugent's husband in 1990 and as far as anyone in Carthage could tell, Nugent couldn't have picked a more devoted companion than Tiede.
