This week… Kärel is back in the Stu! Max and Kärel call Andy O and a new buddy, Eli joins in to talk all things Wisconsin sports. They talked Bucks, Badgers and of course da Pack! They examined the two free agents the Packers signed and how they'll affect the roster heading into the draft. Then they discussed the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft and guessed who the Packers might take in the first round. Max shared an interesting draft story regarding a player being drafted in the first round who never played a down of college football. Kärel had a sharp Guess That Packer. Andy and Eli hung around to answer some questions from the group chat. Max and Kärel read a listener's confession and gave their thoughts on the sick f**k. Then they ended things reviewing some of the new music Max found during last week's episode. Kärel finally got to meet his long lost uncle, Lordkuke! But before any of that nonsense, they saved the best for first, with the Beer of the Week! During the BOW the fellas rate and review a new beer. They discuss the history of the brewery and examine what's in the beer they're drinking. Then, they break down the beer by its drinkability, the probability they'd drink it again, its chugability, and the can's attractability. Bellin Sports Medicine's Mark Husen switches gears and talks about this "crud" that's going around. Whether it's Influenza A or bad colds, these sicknesses are sticking around for more than a few days. Mark makes some great points about when you should use the emergency room and when you should use urgent care. Apparently, our emergency rooms are overflowing, and it is slowing down the process of seeing patients properly. Always great advice from Mark and Bellin. Then TJ Bowles and Aaron Arsenal join from HWE - Hybrid Wrestling Entertainment. Their "Game On" event is tonight at Badger State Brewing and Jim and John are ring announcers for one of the matches! Our own Santa Claus, Mark Husen from Bellin Sports Medicine, joins the team and brings us special cookies called Pizelles. They were originally made in Southern Italy, and the name comes from the Italian word for round and flat. While the conversation focuses on the holidays, Mark does share some tips for physical activity in this snowy weather. Then TJ Bowles and Adam Grace from Hybrid Wrestling Entertainment join Jim and John to promote tonight's Brewery Bash 2 event at The Barrel Haus at Badger State Brewing. When we asked TJ which of the guys would be the "villain" in the wrestling ring, he immediately said "The Mayor"! We love it! This week… listen to a man talk to himself for 2 hours! It's just Baldy burping, swearing, and laughing in The Stu. He ranted about the Brewers cold streak, the Badgers dim chances, and the Packers rough start. He c;aimed Jaire was turned into toast, and made a good argument for it… He looked ahead to the Colts game, and came up with a fool proof game plan for Malik Willis. Finally he updated on the progress of his challenges. Lawn care, concrete, comedy, flowers, eggs and more! But, before any of that nonsense, he saved the best for first, with the Beer of the Week! During the BOW Max rates and reviews a new beer. He discusses the history of the brewery and examines what's in the beer they're drinking. The Crusher (Reginald Lisowski), music from Red Pants, review of Badger State Brewing "BRW-SKI", and special interview with David Herro.
What some people in the craft beer scene call a 'Porch Bomb' hit The Dungeon recently, and we had to share the wealth. A porch bomb is a shipment of brews that gets delivered to your front porch. It's usually where the delivery person leaves all your packages from amazon and whatnot, ya know? So we got these goodies courtesy of Alex, aka @beardhopsandbarley on instagram, including a very special homebrew that his 6-year-old son helped with the recipe for. We have special guests Andrew Karr (from Beer People), Don Kenna, and Blake Bushy on to join in on the bottleshare experience. Cheers from us to Hartland, WI buddy! In this episode we sample and review Badger State Brewing's Porte Des Morts coffee cocoa and maple porter, along with their Mega Mangoberry Udder Chaos Milkshake IPA, Pink Houses Blackcurrant Berliner Weisse and Imperial Set List DIPA both from Eagle Park Brewing, Strawberry Guava Shlushee from Lions Tail, and Raised Grain Brewing's Paradocs Red Imperial Red IPA. Cameron & Jonathan have a couple beers with our first guest, Andrew Fabry, President & Co-Founder of Badger State Brewing Company in Green Bay, WI. Andrew gives us a glimpse into the sweaty early days of Badger State when Sam, Mike, and Andrew were brewing their first batch of beer on a sweltering hot summer day, and then moving to their first professional brewing space in a former warehouse locker room. We talk about how the three Badger State guys found their passion in beer so much so they quit their other jobs to pursue this dream. Badger State may not grow the prettiest hops on-site, but they know how to use professionally-grown ones. Andrew talks about IPAs being his favorite beer style because they’re always evolving as new hops are cultivated. OK, so maybe none of us are Dwayne Johnson. Maybe we’ve never been WWE Champ, or even the People’s Champ, for that matter. Maybe we’ve never saved America from rampaging giant animals. But you know what? None of us has that shitty brahma bull tattoo that we had to cover up out of embarrassment, so at least we have him beat there. Why does any of this matter? Hold on, I’m getting there. In just a few months, one of the greatest video games from our childhood, Rampage, hits theaters in live-action movie form, and he’s the star. So this week we’re giving you our play through of a very similar board game, King of Tokyo. King of Tokyo is a dice rolling game similar to Yahtzee in concept, with a few other layers added in. The players race to be the first to 20 victory points, which are earned via number combinations on the dice, or by taking over Tokyo and remaining there for as long as possible. Each player is competing against everyone else, and can also deal damage to opponents in order to knock them out of the game. Energy cubes can be used to purchase cards that deliver one-time or continual effects to help your monster defeat the others. The game retails for about $30 depending on the seller, unless you manage to find a first edition copy, which can run you upwards of $75. We’ve got new brews for you in this episode, too! Schnell goes to one of our favorite breweries, Great Lakes, and tries out their Edmund Fitzgerald Porter. Junior stays in-state and samples Badger State Brewing’s Sticky Bandit, Nelson stays with his island theme and drinks Longboard Island Lager from Kona Brewing Company, and Teej, as his MO, sticks with stout, this time Stompin’ Grounds Coffee Stout from Uinta Brewing Company.
It's 2018 and Bob & Doug return with two breweries that have never been on the podcast: "Tank 7 Farm House Ale" from Boulevard Brewing and "Dubious Ruffian Stout" from Badger State Brewing. Both beers are complex and interesting - ONE of them makes the wild card playoff round. Also in this episode: The Ice Planet Hoth, Cider isn't beer and Bob's admission that he has never seen an episode of Seinfeld. Grab a Tank 7 and Dubious Ruffian and taste along with us as we drink our way to the World's Top 10 Beers. Cheers! #craftbeer, #beer, #beerpodcast
