Funder practices can be part of the solution, or part of the problem. So having a major funder like OSF become part of the solution in a very public way is important progress, and it's something you can leverage in your own talent-investing efforts! Bipasha读研日常分享Bipasha的读研typical routine for 24 hours（常规日程）：wake up阶段会makeherself some tea or coffee（泡茶或冲咖啡），然后freshen up（梳洗打扮一番），之后就是做一些准备工作，get ready for work or go to campus（准备好工作或去学校）。因为研究生和教授白天都有自己的工作，所以she had classes in the evening from 5:30pm to 11:00pm（下午5点半到晚上11点之间上课）。Bipasha白天除了会处理自己常规工作外，有时还会准备podcast，录节目。这样的日程，真的是pretty overwhelming（难以承受）。*routine/ruːˈtiːn/ n. 常规；日常*make tea 泡茶*make coffee冲咖啡*freshen /ˈfreʃn/ up 梳洗一番*overwhelming /ˌoʊvərˈwelmɪŋ/ adj. 让人受不了的周末能不能休息，还得看if she is lucky or not。大多数时候，Bipasha had classes all weekend from 8:00am -6:00pmfor a special internship（因为Bipasha在做一个特别的实习，所以她从早上8点到下午6点，都要上课）。To sum it up（总结起来），周内Bipasha白天工作，晚上上课，有时还得录节目，周末满课。It is pretty tiring（太累了）！这何止是24 hours is not enough，其实是7 days a week is not enough!也并不是每一个研究生都像Bipasha一样累，要看个人情况，Bipasha是想do multiple things in a short time（短时间内完成很多事情）。在美读研究生，你可以选择full-time（全日制的），也可以选择part-time（非全日制的）。It depends from person to person how you want to make your schedule（这就要看你自己的日程是如何安排的了）。3. 在美国读研有什么特点(1) Class time上课时间研究生的上课时间是the most interesting feature（最有趣的一个特点）。In the US, most graduate classes are at night after work hours. 研究生课程都安排到晚上。这样的话，学生在business hours（上班时间）就可以work regular job（正常工作），and then attend classes in the evening（晚上上课）。这种上课方式是not uncommon，不只是在美国大学这样，很多美国的大学研究生也是这样上课。(2) tuition for postgraduate study学费Everyone has a different financial situation.每个人都有不同的财务情况。比如，杜克大学的Jerry之前就说过，在美读研不用交学费，但这不是绝对。Bipasha was on an academic scholarship（获得了学术奖学金），所以就不用付学费了，剩下的就基本是personal expenses（日常生活的开支）了，比如说house rent & utilities（房租及水电费），grocery（食品杂货）, outdoor activities（户外活动）, restaurants（餐饮）, books, and miscellaneous（其他杂项）。(3) Form of class 上课形式在美国的大学里，不存在“行政班”这个概念，一个班里多少人depends on the type of classes you are taking（要看你修的是哪一门课程）。像门槛比较低的introductory courses（入门类课程）have more people，但是honors and capstone courses（荣誉课程以及顶点课程），就要看the number of acceptances by professor（教授要收的学生数）。Bipasha上的capstone course，需要apply and not everyone is accepted，所以只有10个人，但其他的课程，也是小课堂，一个班was 20-30 students。*capstone courses顶点课程，是美国中学或高校针对临近毕业的学生开设的综合性课程。(4) Courses上课内容研究生上课的内容是less theoretical（理论性较少），但是more practical（更加实用），解决实际问题。Because you are trying to become an expert.研究生课程是要培养专家。所以，他们会有 real life examples（现实生活中的例子）。学生能够 talk to people actually working in the field（和真正在现场工作的人交谈），并且这些人realistically solve issues（能解决实际问题）。*theoretical /ˌθiːəˈretɪk(ə)l/ adj. 理论的*practical /ˈpræktɪkl/ adj. 实际的研究生也会有assignment（作业）。比如说，Bipasha最后一学期的作业是：write a policy memo on U.S. National Security Strategy for Terrorism and Counterterrorism（写一份关于美国恐怖主义和反恐国家安全战略的政策备忘录）。教授也会认真批改。Bipasha的教授就在NATO（北大西洋公约组织）工作，所以，教授直接就可以gave you critical feedback on the paper（对学生的论文进行批判性反馈），告诉你if it is acceptable in the real world or not（你的想法在现实世界里能不能行的通）。*counterterrorism /ˌkaʊntərˈterərɪzəm/ n. 反恐怖主义*acceptable /əkˈseptəbl/ adj. 可允许的(5) Teaching assistant助教美国的研究生课堂里，有很多学生会做teaching assistants（助教）。Bipasha就做过。会有工资，they are usually minimum wage jobs.（助教一般是最低薪资的工作）。在华盛顿，大约时薪是$15.20/hour。*minimum /ˈmɪnɪməm/ adj. 最小的*wage /weɪdʒ/ n. 工资想要申请做助教，要么是good at subject（擅长这门学科），或者是 you have already scored well（成绩好）。助教要做的工作就是：你已经完成你的课程后，你就可以做助教to help other students the following semester（下学期帮助其他学生），或者是，you do research and assist the professors to plan lectures（你要做研究，并协助教授们准备讲座）。(6) Flexibility选课灵活性There is a lot of flexibility regarding the subject you want to study and the combination of things you want to do. 你可以根据自己的爱好灵活地选科目。比如说，你可以be a Master in Business with a psychology focus（你可以成为心理学专业的商科硕士）。Bipasha就有朋友who are doing MBA with a data science focus（攻读数据科学专业MBA）。*flexibility /ˌfleksəˈbɪləti/ n. 灵活性*focus /ˈfoʊkəs/ n. 重点欢迎大家给Bipasha留言、提问，我们会在后面的节目中逐一为大家解答。

A few weeks ago we had the good fortune of having William Woollard, Matt MacMillan and Karen and myself sat around our kitchen table. We read two lovely experiences about relationships with mothers, one from two sisters in India, Bipasha van der Zijde & Bishaka Dalvi. The other experience was from Kelvin Lam.  We swapped stories and experiences and played music from the Podsafe music including, Levi Blues by the Lala Girls, Mine Again by Black Lab and Yael Naim with New Soul. The editing took some time and I was able to get the file ready to the digital work on the plane to Brisbane, where when we land I hope to post online! Thank you very much everyone for the many birthday wishes you were kind enough to send and for all your good wishes about our forthcoming move to Vancouver. We are continuing to study hard and have started writing the lecture for the next show, so bear with us as we embark on the next crazy adventure.
