It's that time of year again where we gather with family and friends to give thanks. On this week's show, Louisiana Eats brings together some New Orleanians we're grateful for. First is Nathanial Zimet. The chef and owner of Boucherie closed his restaurant's doors this summer only to reopen in the fall with a fresh new menu. Nathanial tells us about the change and his ongoing program, Boucherie Feeds, which aims to eliminate hunger among New Orleans youth while ensuring those meals are healthy as well as delicious. Amanda Toups and her husband Chef Isaac also have a passion for fighting food insecurity. Since the pandemic, their non-profit, Toups Family Meal has brought tens of thousands of meals to New Orleans children and families. Amanda and Isaac join us to talk about the program and give us the scoop on their newest restaurant, Armada, due to open sometime in 2026. We're also thankful for the Brocato family who have been providing the city hand-churned ice cream and gelato since 1905 at Angelo Brocato's. We sit down with Tony Brocato, who tells us what it's like to be a fifth-generation family member working in the 120-year-old business. For more of all things Louisiana Eats, be sure to visit us at PoppyTooker.com.

Connie's motivational quotes for today is by Renee Rouleau, “Be good to your skin. You'll wear it every day for the rest of your life."  I turned 63 years old in November of 2024.  As I write my notes and see the #63 written out, I can't help but pause and think about the aging process and what it means. They say 60 is the new 40 and I kind of agree with this notion.  For me being healthy on the inside is critical and yes, I will be honest and say I want to look good on the outside too.  That's not being vain, rather it's about living a thriving life and staying relevant for my business and for my clients.   YouTube: https://youtu.be/Cl3QDD2dCko   About Michelle Brocato: Michelle Brocato is a licensed esthetician but most of all – she is a free spirit, someone who never judges and claims she is an old soul. March 19th might be just another day in other parts of the United States, but here in New Orleans it's a day when revelers take to the streets in honor of the Feast of St. Joseph. The tradition of food altars dedicated to Jesus' foster father came to the Crescent City in the late 1800s with immigrants from Sicily, where Joseph is the patron saint. What was called Mi-Carême (or Mid-Lent by the Creoles) was a day when fasting was suspended and festivities abounded. On this week's show, we explore the holiday and join in on the celebration. Tony Marino's family were faithful followers of St. Joseph, and today, he keeps the tradition alive at his Bourbon Street home in New Orleans' French Quarter. We sit down with Tony to hear what it takes to pull off his annual street party, complete with altars and a life-sized statue of St. Joseph. Then, Arthur Brocato, third generation of Angelo Brocato's Ice Cream and Confectionary, joins us to share his family's history and explain the special role Brocato's has played in the St. Joseph's Day celebration. Founded in the French Quarter in 1905, the gelateria and pasticceria continues those traditions today on Carrollton Avenue in Mid-City. Finally, historian Laura Guccione joins us to reveal what she's discovered about the fancy dress balls that were once part of the St. Joseph tradition and to explain the mystical tie between the feast day and the Mardi Gras Indians. For more of all things Louisiana Eats, be sure to visit us at PoppyTooker.com.

My very special guest this week is so committed to elevating the salon industry that he wrote a best-selling book about it called "Beautiful Business". He won NAHA's Lifetime Achievement Award and Editorial Stylist of the Year, and was inducted into the London Hairdresser Hall of Fame. He has a very successful salon in Manhattan and I am proud to call him a good friend. Please welcome Sam Brocato.• Sam became hooked on the beauty industry at 16, when his mom took him to her part-time job at a local beauty school• early in his career he showed his boss an ad in Modern Salon for training in London, and he gave him the money to sign up. Everyone was there at Sassoon's - Vidal, Trevor Sorbie, Christopher Booker, Roger Thompson• Paul Mitchell and Horst Rechelbacher both encouraged Sam, even if it was in very different ways• The title of Sam's book, Beautiful Business, refers to using both sides of the brain - creative and logical. Sam has always tried to use both to propel his very successful career.⭐️⭐️⭐️ Check out more episodes and the videos at https://chrisbaran.com/podcast ⭐️ Join our FREE Facebook community for Salon Team Trainers today. https://facebook.com/groups/salonteamtraining ✅ Exclusive content on how to implement and scale your salon training the easy way ✅ Save time and learn what works from people just like you ✅ Get back to your mission of building the salon business and creating more jobs Learn more here - https://bit.ly/trainersplaybook Join our FB group - https://facebook.com/groups/salonteamtraining Follow us on IG - https://instagram.com/coachchrisbaran

Hairdressing is often seen as a young person's industry; my guess would be that the average person working in the industry is probably in their late 20s.   Although on the one hand, that's a negative thing because it's reflective of the high turnover rates of staff who choose to move into other industries, it also means that those who stay in the industry are constantly being exposed to new ideas, new ways of thinking, and new ways of looking at the world.   The secret to a successful long-term career in the hairdressing industry is having the ambition, foresight, and courage to continually evolve and reinvent oneself and one's business.   My guest on today's podcast is a person who epitomises these characteristics: Sam Brocato from the New York-based salon bearing his name.   In today's podcast, we will discuss:   ●      The pros and cons of being in the salon industry today ●      How technology has impacted Sam's ever-evolving business ●      The changes in salon business models and product distribution…   And lots more!   For full show notes, links and resources mentioned visit: https://growmysalonbusiness.com/podcast/209/   Thanks so much for joining me this week. It is mid-July, which means the report dates for Tennessee Titans rookies (July 22) and veterans (July 25), as well as the first practice (July 26), is just weeks away. Even the first preseason game (Aug. 12 at Chicago) will occur in a month. ... Franchise officials also have revealed when they will reveal the throwback uniforms that will be worn for one -- maybe two games -- during the 2024 NFL season. The perceived excitement over this occurrence is a far cry from 1998, when franchise founder Bud Adams gave into pressure from Nashville sports fans and decided to abandon the franchise's traditional nickname, colors and uniforms. The Oilers became the Titans in 1999. ... Speaking of Mr. Adams, he is a Pro Football Hall of Fame semifinalist in the coach/contributor category, as is former Oilers/Titans scout C.O. Brocato. Former Oilers wide receiver/return man Billy "White Shoes" Johnson is a semifinalist in the senior category. All three face long odds for induction. ... Free agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins still has not settled on his next team, but oddsmakers suddenly see Tennessee as the prohibitive favorite to sign him eventually.
