I woke up early and found myself fondling around in the record store sorting through literally thousands of old 45's. I came away with some real heat. My favorites of the new 45 section were probably Brother Louie by Stories and James Brown's take on If I Ruled The World. My Fred Again concert footage at the end didn't turn out half bad either. I did just drop the Sheep Tee on www.coffeestainclothing.com it is a limited run never to be printed again. I do hope someone out there in existence enjoyed the episode, I am your most trusted honorable internet disc jockey, DJ Witwicka Juan Don and I'll be here next week. Your Host with the most,Trill Murray

Ian Lloyd has been at this longer than many of us have been alive. He first took off fronting Stories in the early 70s for three albums. The second one, About Us, featured the surprising #1 smash "Brother Louie". From there he went solo and released some excellent (and sadly out of print) power pop albums including the wonderful Goosebumps from 1979. He also made a nice living singing backing vocals for Foreigner, Billy Joel and many others including several ads and jingles. He's still out there doing his thing with that other-worldly voice that hasn't lost a drop. We discuss all of it. Well hello there dear listeners and a warm, warm welcome back to a brand new season of Collective Wisdom. I'm thrilled to be with you once again, sharing the inspiring stories of changemakers entrepreneurs, writers, and creatives from around the world.   In this season, we'll continue our exploration of the incredible impact of storytelling, creativity, and the pursuit of our unique gifts and talents. We'll hear from individuals who like me believe in the power of connection, and how sharing our stories can lead to positive change in the world.   This episode is particularly close to my heart, because we have a very special guest joining us a remarkable individual who has a unique perspective to share, Anastasia. She was originally from Kyiv in Ukraine, and now a grateful guest here in the UK. I have nothing but admiration for the way she has shown up and faced the huge challenge of arriving here 18 months ago, with such resilience and positivity. It's by no means been an easy journey.   Anastasia has very kindly agreed to share a bit more of her story with us today. And it's my hope that on hearing it, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the power of simple acts of kindness and how they can transform lives for both the giver and the receiver.     https://sanctuaryfoundation.org.uk https://ukrainianrefugeehelp.co.uk/   ‘Brother Louie' by Modern Talking   Wisdom: Learn how to accept what you cannot change

They were an early 1970's rock and pop music band based in New York. They had a number 1 hit with a cover of Hot Chocolate's song “Brother Louie” song. Brother Louie a song about an interracial love affair between a white man and a black woman, and the subsequent disowning of the man by his parents because of it. The title was written and sung by Errol Brown and Tony Wilson of the group Hot Chocolate, and was a No. 7 hit in the UK Singles Chart for the band in 1973."Brother Louie" was covered by the American band Stories (featuring singer Ian Lloyd) about six months after Hot Chocolate's UK hit. The Stories version reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US and sold a million plus copies to earn a gold disk.I'm Gail Nobles, and you're listening to Postgirl's Recordings. Stories! Man does my old pal, Kenny Aaronson, have them, and, he was in them when their monster hit, Brother Louie, was #1. I love rock 'n roll, and savored every word of Kenny's incredible career from Dust with Marky Ramone, to his current gig with The Yardbirds, a 50-year dream come true. There's so damn much betwixt and between and stories for all of it. How he got each gig, highlights, and how they came to a close. Playing with Hall & Oats before they hit huge, opening with them for Lou Reed, suing Tommy Motolla to get paid, that takes balls, but nearly as much as when Mick called and asked Kenny to audition for The Stones. Kenny's interactions with Keith are… well, one for the book, and I heard it made Keith's. Google was wrong about Hendrix but not about Ginger Baker, hanging with Cream, Beck, Rod Steward in '68, amazing reminiscences. Playing with Leslie West, Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Graham Parker, great until it was time to get paid, recording with George Harrison, Rick Derringer, opening monster concerts for Aerosmith, Foreigner, Boston, Frampton during Frampton Comes Alive. There was HSAS with Sammy Hagger, before Van Halen, Bob Dylan, for Christ's sake, John Eddy with our pal, Louie Appel, to present day with The Yardbirds, his favorite band when he was a kid, full circle to being a years-long member. Steve Kimock has his attention and talents as well now. Back to less structured jamming days, like back where Kenny started. He's diggin' doing what he loves and at this stage leaving the rest. There's a damn good reason Kenny was named Bassist of The Year in '88 by Rolling Stone. I've seen him slap that bass in many incarnations through the years––no one's more fun to watch, or funks it out, better. I love this man. It's all about his bass, and his balls. So damn fun. “You Brought a New Kind of Love to Me” (August 16, 1984) Heads up: In this episode we use the “F” word — no, not that one, but the gay one — but only because the subject matter itself uses it. This week, we look into Brothers, which ran for five seasons and 115 episodes on Showtime, 1984 to 1989. The show revolved around one of the three titular brothers coming out, and therefore it has a legit claim to being the first gay sitcom, and its second-ever episode featured Uncle Phil himself, James Avery, as a closeted football star. UNCUT, UNEDITED... JUST POURING SOME PAIN INTO AUDIO Random thoughts to an angel Have you ever met an angel? Someone you just KNOW was anointed from God. You can just look at them and tell they had a whole lotta God in them. For many of us, it coulda been an elder in our family, like a grandmother who always prayed over us, or an uncle who would tell you about how God saved his life. Or maybe a family friend who you would confide in and no matter what you told them, they always had a Bible verse for you.. a word of encouragement .. something to keep you going.. I'm not ready to say goodbye, so I won't. Instead, I'll say thank you. A REAL man of God. Who can even say that and mean it, right? After all, we're so used to seeing people use “God” and “church” as a get rich quick scheme. Selling people false hopes and dreams, taking their money to build their wealth in the name of “God”... and btw that's not of God. God flipped over tables in the temple when they turned it into a flee market instead of a place of praise and worship. but anyways, not Pastor. I remember living in the State Fayette buildings and one day you and Brother Louie came knocking at our door inviting us out to church. It was in that same invitation that I accepted Christ as my savior. Shortly after, my parents decided to join the church. Anyone that knows Perth Amboy knows about the drug infested streets, the violence, the gangs, the broken homes, the poverty, the need for God in our community, and you made that your mission. Thank you. You started a bus ministry to pick up anyone, and I mean anyone, who wanted to attend church but had no way of getting there. Everyone in the city knew our church busses every Sunday morning. You believed in instructing the youth. Instilling the word of God in them. Giving them a moral compass and Godly principles. Showing them a better way. Thank you. 1.He taught me to have a relationship with God. ( trust him through the tests of life) 2.He taught me to be grateful. (Give thanks) 3.He taught me to ask God and I will receive so there's never a need to worry because I'm a child of God so I'm not gonna want for nothing. 4.He taught me the value of hard work. (Faith without works is dead). 5.He taught me to not be a hater. ( love one another) 6.He taught tough love.. there's still consequences for your actions but God still loves you 7.He taught me to always walk in truth because (what's done in darkness always comes to light) Times like these are reminders to ask ourselves, what are we really doing with our life? If you were to drop dead right now, What would ppl say about you? Pastor I hope when you reached Heaven's doors that it was just as beautiful as the Bible described because if anyone was gonna hear “well done thou good and faithful servant” it was gonna be you.

Yes, those bearded wonders, the trio of ZZ Top would find their breakthrough hit in LaGrange off their third album entitled Tres Hombres. With Billy Gibbons on guitar, Dusty Hill on bass, and Frank Beard (ironically the only member without a beard) on drums, ZZ Top would begin their climb to stardom via Texas blues/rock with this album. ZZ Top started in 1969 in Houston, Texas and are still playing together today after 50 years. We hope you enjoy this treat from the Texas blues trio as much as we do.Waitin' for the BusHave Mercy! This is the first track on the album, and was inspired by "people watching" at the bus stop. Jesus Just Left ChicagoThe second track on the album has no noticeable break from the first, and you will often hear the two played together on the radio. Billy Gibbons said that this song was a gospel-inspired blues number.  Beer Drinkers and Hell RaisersThis hard driving Southern rock piece originated in a stop ZZ Top took one night at a roadside bar near El Paso to avoid a windstorm.  Have You Heard? This deep cut combines gospel and straight blues. Both Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill were offered $1 million to shave their beard, and they turned the money down. George W. Bush declared May 15th, 1997 "ZZ Top Day" as governor of Texas.ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Theme from "Match Game"We're pretty sure the entire crew of this game was toasted the entire time.STAFF PICKS:“Walk Like a Man” by Grand FunkWayne's staff pick was a hit from the album "We're an American Band." KANNMIX 2 was compiled by Brother Louie also known as Jan Bennemann, co-founder of @holger_records and important part of our booking agency @bukigood. His collection feels like the best summary of a choppy summer as we know it for years. Yummy! - no tracklist - July 2015 | www.kann-records.com

Guest Ric Dube and I dig deep and analyze two '70s rock classics. I've also got the Bonehead of the Week and music from Redd Kross, Chelsea Light Moving and Cat Power. Show notes: - Recorded in Shrewsbury, Mass. - Check out Ric's podcast More Lost Time - Digging into Meat Loaf's "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" - Irony-free, over-the-top theatrics - Song is in three parts - Jay: Remember as a kid thinking it was risque - Paradise turns out to be hell - Jim Steinman was known for ridiculously long song titles - Song goes from rockabilly to disco in the middle, with Phil Rizzuto mixed in - The debate over third base - Ellen Foley's odd career - Third section tries to emulate punk - The strange allure of Robby Benson - Meat Loaf's acting career - Part 2: "Brother Louie" by Stories - A classic '70s one-hit wonder - Stories actually had well-known musicians in band - Louie was whiter than white - Super catchy chorus - Ric: This was a "Neapolitan relationship" - The lesson was about equal opportunity sexing - Why is the name Louie popular in songs? - Did Jeff Lynne swipe the ELO string sound from this song? - Bonehead of the WeekMusic:Redd Kross - Researching the Blues Chelsea Light Moving - Burroughs Cat Power - Ruin Completely Conspicuous is available through the iTunes podcast directory. Subscribe and write a review! The Redd Kross song is from the forthcoming album Researching the Blues on Merge Records. Download the song for free at Stereogum.
