The Dodgers sweep the Reds in the Wild Card Series, and now move on to face the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies have a very strong team, and finished the season 96-66. With stars like Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper and Trea Turner, the Phillies might be the Dodgers biggest threat at repeating as World Series Champions.
Tek & Prem welcome Tom Stakes onto the VetLine to talk Eagles. The Broncos come to Philly with their stout defense and young quarterback Bo Nix. The Broncos last win in Philadelphia came in 1986. At 4-0, the Birds have simply found ways to win. The offense, defense, and special teams units have contributed equally throughout their undefeated September against top-tier NFL competition. As the Super Bowl Champions head into October, the offense will continue to evolve, and the defense will see the return of Nakobe Dean to the field. The Phillies and Dodgers are set to meet in the NLDS and the first two games will take place at the raucous Citizens Bank Park. With a marquee pitching matchup of Ohtani v. Sanchez for Game One, the pressure is on this group of Phillies to phinally get it done in October after reaching the World Series in 2022, losing, and not making it back in their last two attempts. The table is set, but the bats will need to get hot if they expect to knock off the defending World Series Champion Dodgers in this best-of-five series. It's MLB postseason time! And this week, the guys threw down their Phillies Postseason Preview on the Table! What will see from the Philadelphia Phillies pitchers and batters as they head into the divisional round? Do we truly believe this team can win the World Series? This week, John Stolnis from TheGoodPhight.com and Hittin' Season podcast joined the show to break down this Phillies postseason. A fantastic discussion! But first, the guys talked about the Eagles offensive situation heading into week 5, and whether the kicking balls - as discussed by Vic Fangio - should be scrutinized more by the NLF. (Approx. 6:05)From there, they got into some Philadelphia 76ers camp stories. Joel Embiid's zen-like attitude and might Adem Bona be Embiid's backup? (Approx. 22:50)The guys then dove into their Phillies Postseason Preview. What has this team learned from the past? Have they matured as a team over the past year? (Approx. 39:35)What they threw down on the Table this week was a great, in-depth conversation with John Stolnis from the Hittin' Season podcast and The Good Phight about what we'll see from the Phillies in the postseason. What's the theme of this Phillies postseason? What kind of Bryce Harper will we see at the plate? The pitching is expected to be stellar. All of this and much more this week on the Table! Tek & Prem welcome Kay Adams' Senior Producer Matt Hamilton of FanDuel TV on the VetLine to talk NFL. The Eagles stun the Rams and move to 3-0. Looking ahead at a tough matchup in Tampa Bay, the Eagles have the edge in this edition of the rivalry, as the Bucs are missing their best playmaker and Baker Mayfield nurses an arm injury. Jalen Hurts, Saquon, DeVonta and AJ are 18-0 when starting and finishing games together. Defensively, the loss of Nolan Smith is big, but there are able-bodies to step in and create a pass rush for the Birds. Vic Fangio's system is air tight thus far as the chief of the defense. The Phillies clinch the bye in the NL Playoffs and homefield advantage if they make it back to the World Series. Tek & Prem welcome Jon Marks on the VetLine to talk Eagles and Phillies. The Birds host the Rams this weekend at the Linc in a Divisional Round Rematch as we delve into game dynamics. With a stout defense and veteran QB bent on revenge, this matchup will be as tough a game as any on the Eagles 2025 Schedule. Jalen Hurts acknowledges the offense's struggles in the passing game in the first 2 games and we expect to see an improved product at home on Sunday. Stafford has weapons and knows how to get the ball into their hands, so the game will again fall on the back of Fangio and his defensive plan, and our playmakers. The Phillies have secured their 2nd straight NL East Title and are in the race for the NL 1 seed as they head to Arizona this weekend firmly in control of the 2 seed, after winning 2 of 3 against the Dodgers. The D'Backs are fighting for their Playoff lives, but the Phils lineup has been getting contributions from just about everyone, and they look primed for a World Series run. There are many eye-catching storylines from the 2025 MLB season, but one that remains a captivating tale as we approach the postseason is the historic run by the man simply known as “Big Dumper.” On Tuesday night, Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh set a new single-season record for most home runs hit by a switch hitter, surpassing the immortal Mickey Mantle with 56 on the year. Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss Cal's unbelievable campaign, how he's managed to do this while serving as the team's primary catcher and why he's now a serious contender alongside New York Yankees superstar Aaron Judge in the tight race for the 2025 American League Most Valuable Player award. Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Jake and Jordan talk about an impressive debut from Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Trey Yesavage and why he could be an integral part of their push for the AL East title. Welcome to Episode 104 of Tablesetters. Devin and Steve are back to capture the drama, joy, and heartbreak of a September week that revealed everything we love and fear about baseball. In Los Angeles, the Phillies turned fatigue into fuel, clinching their second straight NL East crown in a game that began after a sleepless night of travel and ended in extra innings with Bryce Harper's fist-pumping eighth-inning home run and J.T. Realmuto's sacrifice fly. When the champagne popped, it wasn't just about celebration — it was about perspective. Garrett Stubbs made sure Harper could join the party with apple juice, and Harrison Bader's mantra rang through the room: “What a gift.” For a club that has known nothing but heartbreak since 2022, that phrase has become the soul of the team: gratitude, joy, and belief that this year can be different. Contrast that spirit with the Bronx, where Anthony Volpe has been grinding through a partially torn labrum since May, hitting just .197 with his defense slipping. Brian Cashman insists this is merely a “tough stretch,” but José Caballero's hot bat and steady glove have complicated the conversation. Caballero is hitting .314 since mid-August, and his emergence is forcing Aaron Boone to consider whether loyalty to Volpe is holding the team back. North of the border, the Blue Jays found a new reason to believe. Trey Yesavage, their top prospect, debuted with nine strikeouts in five innings, a franchise record, his splitter producing an absurd 11 whiffs on 14 swings. His 19 total whiffs put him in Kevin Gausman territory, and for a team already leading the AL East, his arrival feels less like the future and more like a weapon for right now. Toronto hasn't won a World Series since 1993, but Yesavage's debut makes that drought feel vulnerable. The Giants are also leaning into youth, promoting Bryce Eldridge, a 20-year-old, 6-foot-7 slugger ranked the No. 15 prospect in baseball. With 25 homers across Double-A and Triple-A and elite exit velocity numbers, Eldridge is being thrown straight into the fire of a Wild Card chase, where San Francisco sits just 1 ½ games back. With their first basemen producing a meager .614 OPS, Eldridge isn't just a curiosity — he's an immediate solution. In Detroit, fear gave way to relief when Tarik Skubal, the frontrunner for the AL Cy Young, exited his last start with side tightness. Initial panic subsided after imaging revealed no structural damage, and he's slated to pitch Thursday against Cleveland. His numbers speak to his dominance: 13–5, 2.26 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 224 strikeouts in 185 innings. In a franchise that hasn't seen an ace like this since Hal Newhouser, Skubal is the difference between a quick October exit and a run that could echo through history. Out in Arizona, the Diamondbacks are embracing the stars — literally. Blaze Alexander's joke about undergoing a “horoscope” on his bruised elbow became a clubhouse rallying cry, and suddenly the D-backs are aligning at the right moment. Zac Gallen notched his 1,000th career strikeout, joining Randy Johnson and Brandon Webb, while a six-run sixth inning powered them to an 8–1 win over San Francisco. With Jordan Lawlar's RBI double, Geraldo Perdomo's five times on base, and James McCann's homer, Arizona is playing like a team that refuses to fade. In Milwaukee, the Brewers clinched their own ticket to October in a celebration filled with laughter and tenderness. After the fireworks and walk-off, manager Pat Murphy read aloud a letter he pretended came from the late Bob Uecker. Players laughed at the imagined line about being God's “third catcher,” but the tribute brought misty eyes too. Christian Yelich captured the moment perfectly: enjoy it, but don't forget — the job isn't done. And then there's Juan Soto, whose brilliance continues to collide with the Mets' collapse. His 40th home run put him in Barry Bonds and Jeff Bagwell's company with a 40–30–100 season, the first of its kind in Mets history. He is the ninth player to hit 40 for different teams in consecutive years, joining legends like Griffey, A-Rod, and Ohtani. Yet while Soto shines, the Mets stumble, 21–30 in the second half, their Wild Card lead slipping away. His season is a masterpiece, but without October, it may be remembered as a monument to wasted potential. From Philadelphia's “what a gift” mantra to Soto's historic swing in Queens, from rookies Yesavage and Eldridge redefining futures to Skubal and Gallen reminding us of aces past and present, Episode 104 is the story of September baseball. It's belief, heartbreak, and joy — colliding night after night as October looms. Follow us on Instagram and X @TablesettersPod, and join us as we set the table for another unforgettable week in the game we love.
The Eagles head to Kansas City for a Super Bowl LIX rematch against the Chiefs in Week 2. Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid were thoroughly embarrassed last February for the championship, and Mahomes has never lost 3 straight games at any point in his professional career. The Birds are coming off a division win at home against Dallas and have their star lineman Jalen Carter back for this game, after he was ejected from the Week 1 matchup in the Spit-Gate incident with Dak Prescott. Jalen Hurts played like MVP-Jalen and made all the right moves last Thursday Night in the opener, after the Eagles raised their Super Bowl LIX Banner. He will look to lead the team to a 2-0 start and keep the good vibes rolling with Head Coach Nick Sirianni leading the troops. The Phils dismantled the Mets in Philly this week, completing a four-game-sweep and ending New York's hopes of an NL East Title. With their Magic Number sitting at just 5 games, the Fightins are in firm control of the 2 seed in the National League, which would give them a bye for the Wild-Card Round. The Royals come to town this weekend for a 3-game set at the Bank as the red-hot Phils look to keep truckin'. Segments include: VetPhact, Prem's NFL Picks.
