Tennessee senior Jordan Crooks had a historic meet at his last NCAA Championships in Federal Way. This included breaking Caeleb Dressel's legendary 100 free NCAA record, going 39.83 in the prelims of the event. He was also a part of the winning 200 and 400 free relays, the latter of which also set an NCAA record to cap off the meet. The world record holder and world champion sprinter sat down with SwimSwam to reflect on his collegiate career, unsure of what his future holds in the pool. ***This was recorded outside and the audio is a little scratchy during some parts. Breaking a Caeleb Dressel record is a hell of a way to celebrate your final season as a swimmer. For Florida star Julian Smith, there may well be more accolades to come with the college championship season still to come. Coached by a former Gator great prior to his arrival in Gainesville, Julian Smith is a classic example of a not so highly touted recruit who bought into a system and soaked up the knowledge of great swimmers and coaches around him to show progress every year and now find himself the 4th person in history to swim 49 seconds in a 100 yard breaststroke. While his decision to move on to dental school after the season has already been made, we can't help but wonder what might be if he were to keep going. Regardless, Julian Smith is putting on a show and honoring that Gator cap he wears proudly. Enjoy and don't forget to subscribe for weekly podcasts and daily shorts!
In this episode we're joined by Swiss swimming sensation and butterfly specialist Noe Ponti. Noe just completed a short course season for the ages where he pummeled the 50m Butterfly World Record throughout the World Cup en route to the World Title and he also took down the record that meant the most to him - Caeleb Dressel's 100m Butterfly World Record. This season is just what Noe needed to call 2024 a success, after 4th and 5th place finishes in Paris denied him medals at back to back Olympics. In this chat, Noe takes us behind the scenes of his swimming career from his start as a natural butterflier, to the details of his training regimen, which includes very little sprinting despite Noe now being the fastest 50 butterflier in history.
In this episode, we chat with teenage swim phenomenon and Team USA Olympic swimmer Thomas Heilman after his first Olympics in Paris. At age 17, Thomas secured his Olympic berth with a decisive win in the 200 butterfly at the 2024 USA Olympic Trials, and put an exclamation point on the week in Indy when he finished 2nd in the 100 fly, earning him a 2nd individual event to swim in Paris with a new personal best time 50.80 behind legend Caeleb Dressel. Thomas talks with us about it all in this one: his Paris experience, what he does in training that has led to his unprecedented success at such a young age, how good the chocolate muffins were at the Paris dining hall, celebrity sightings, and assimilating back into normal high schooler life as an Olympian. 10-time Olympic swimming medalist Caeleb Dressel is happy to be back on his Florida farm after the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. His results were mixed. He knows that. He knows he fought hard, and he didn't exactly have the Olympic Games he wanted. At a minimum, he's just glad he did it, went to Paris, because there were two moments when he thought he might not go at all. Dressel thought a repeat of the 2022 World Championship would happen, when he abruptly left in the middle of the competition. After making The U.S. Olympic Team at the U.S. Olympic Trials, in the middle of the meet, Dressel considered pulling out. Mentally he was battling---at war in his head. His wife, parents, and therapist were all there, all supporting him. So, he pushed on. After the U.S. Olympic Trials, Dressel considered pulling out again. He wondered if it would be better to give other, up and coming swimmers a shot at the Olympic stage. Dressel battled these thoughts. At one point, he considered only swimming the Olympic relays. It all made sense in his head. We now know Dressel completed his Olympic schedule, and in this podcast he gives a beat-by-beat account of what he experiences. It's real, raw, and courageously vulnerable.

This week on the SwimSwam Breakdown, we discuss Caeleb Dressel's in-season swims, the World Cup stop in Athens, and the upcoming Pan American Games.
7-time Olympic gold medalist and Team Speedo athlete Caeleb Dressel talked with SwimSwam for nearly an hour, detailing his journey back to the sport since his abrupt departure from the 2022 World Championships in Budapest. Caeleb's plain-spoken, funny, and he does channel vulnerability as strength in this interview. Coming off a big Speedo international photo shoot with all of his Team Speedo peers from allover the world, Caeleb was in good spirits and ready to talk on this topic. This post was possible thanks to SwimSwam partner, Speedo. We are aware Speedo has a big 2024 reveal coming, which was the reason for the big Speedo International photo shoot, but Speedo has not confirm the dates of the announcement yet.
After a year of silence, 7x Olympic champion Caeleb Dressel spoke to the press at his second swim meet since the 2022 World Championships. Although he didn't share his reason for departing early from Budapest last summer, Dressel was candid about the fact that he needed time away and took it. He said he was conflicted by his performances in Indianapolis, on the one hand not being thrilled to be so far away from his personal bests, but on the other hand proud of his results for where he was at and the year he has had.
Caeleb Dressel is back on the comeback trail- what do we owe the top athletes in our sport that are talking openly and honestly about some of the challenges we face?
From kindergarten in Northern Kentucky to college at Eastern Michigan University, Lauren Ammon swam her way to state, national, and collegiate conference championships before she finally hung up her suit and goggles and said goodbye to competitive swimming. It was a fun ride and she loved every minute of it, but often struggled to maximize her mindset and emotional state to support her continued performance. She started Performance Reimagined because of Michael Phelps' message during the 2020 Olympics: "Competition is overwhelming. We just want someone to talk to who listens and doesn't want to fix us." That was the eureka moment. Working with athletes is where she belongs. She created Performance Reimagined to support student-athletes to train their minds like they train their bodies; to remove the mental blocks that keep them from their full potential and highest performance on and off the field.Social links:https://www.instagram.com/performance_reimagined_/https://www.linkedin.com/in/laurenammon/https://www.performancereimagined.com/In her own words:17 years in the pool feeling most like myself. 17 years out of the pool and I had no idea who I was. A successful career in HR wasn't it. 2 years as a leadership development and transitions coach wasn't it. Then just days before the 2020 Olympics started I happened to say to myself, "I wonder what it would be like to work with athletes?" It was the night Simone Biles removed herself from the competition and Katie Ledecky won gold in the 1500m freestyle but did everything in her power to hide her disappointment. In the midst of this swirl, they interviewed Michael Phelps, "Competing at an elite level is overwhelming. We just want someone we can trust. Someone who will listen and let us be ourselves. Someone who will let us be vulnerable. Someone who doesn't want to fix us." There it was. The eureka moment. As I sat there, in tears, listening to the most prolific Olympian tell the world, "we have no one who supports us mentally," I knew. I FINALLY knew what was "right" for me. Supporting current student-athletes to train their minds like they train their bodies; to remove the mental blocks that keep them from their full potential (on and off the field). We partner to understand what's standing in the way of optimal performance. Why aren't you performing at the level you want or know you can? How is your mindset hindering your performance? Even Michael Phelps and Caeleb Dressel have both admitted to “mental demons”. If it's happening at the Olympic level, it's happening everywhere. You, as a high-performing student-athlete, deserve the chance to reach your dreams without your mind holding you back.If you want to optimize your game from a new angle, we can support you.1. This week on the SwimSwam Breakdown, we discuss the likelihood that Caeleb Dressel's NCAA records get broken, the fairness of whereabouts failure suspensions, and 'Rowdy's Rule' for getting back into swim shape
This week on the SwimSwam Breakdown, we discussed Caeleb Dressel breaking his silence since leaving the world champs, US selection procedures, and the legitimacy of practice swims.
We sat down with the newest world record holder, David Popovici, the 17-year-old phenom who broke Cesar Cielo's 13-year-old 100 free mark. Popovici is currently in Lima, Peru, preparing for the World Jr Championships, the last Jr meet of his career. He isn't entering the meet with any expectations but did admit that he went best time in workout just the other day, signaling that the Romanian may be in top form once again. Popovici also comments on dealing with this new level of fame after becoming the fastest man on Earth, what small change allowed him to break his first world record, and racing top-level competitors like Caeleb Dressel in the future.
We sat down with the world record-holder in the 50 free and now the FORMER world record-holder in the 100 free, Cesar Cielo, to get his perspective on sprinting in the world today. Cesar admits he wasn't ecstatic about 17-year-old David Popovici breaking his 13-year-old 100 free world record, but he also wasn't sad about it. He reveals what he see's in Popovici's technique, starts, and kick that can make him even more of a lethal threat on the international stage. Cielo also gives a look into the mind of an athlete who is at the top of the world, perhaps lending perspective on what 5x 2020 Olympic champion Caeleb Dressel may be going through after pulling out of the world championships this summer. And finally, Cielo predicts if we will ever see a 45-second 100 free as well as when he thinks his 50 free world record will finally go down.
Josh Liendo is Canada's top male swimmer. At World Champs, he took 2nd in the 100 Fly, 3rd in the 100 Free, and 5th in the 50 Free. He's just 19 years old. Brett and Josh Liendo go deep into the world of sprinting, specifically breaking down his freestyle technique, strengths & weaknesses, and race strategies. They discuss racing against David Popovici, whose race plan and strengths are the opposite of Liendo's. They talk about Caeleb Dressel pulling out of World Champs and how Liendo wanted to compare each aspect of his race to Caeleb's to determine how he is shaping up. They talk about Cesar Cielo's 100 Free WR, Ben Titley leaving Canada, his practice schedule, and how he has unbridled confidence. A feat that only Caeleb Dressel can match in Paris. Psychologically, emotionally - defending your Olympic titles is filled with pressure. Katie Ledecky made the move to Gainesville after the Tokyo Olympics. She's not training with Caeleb, per se, but they are in the same pool. Here's what he has picked up from hanging out with her. “People think focus means saying yes to the thing you've got to focus on. But that's not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I'm actually as proud of the things we haven't done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying no to 1,000 things.” ― Steve Jobs Picture from Mike Lewis - check him out on Instagram! Mike2Swim! A new fire has erupted inside of Kyle Chalmers. Getting touched out by Caeleb Dressel in the 100 Free at the Tokyo Olympics might just be the best thing for him. If he had won, he most likely would have retired. Instead, he's hungrier than before. On this week's episode of "2 Bears, 1 Cave," Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer discuss Bert's inability to keep a secret, jigsaw puzzles, racing Caeleb Dressel, why Bert should be a Speedo spokesperson, and "Jackass Forever." Swimmer Caeleb Dressel invites Graham to his farm in Florida for a candid conversation about the extreme highs and lows that come with Olympic fame, including why he had to step away from the pool following the Tokyo Games. Sports Illustrated's 2021 “Athlete of the Year” reveals harsh self-criticism while reading entries from his swim logbooks, shares why he avoids comparisons to Michael Phelps and discusses his deep affection for his pet rat. We also hear stories from Dressel's wife, his parents and long-time coach Gregg Troy.
It's another episode of 2 Bears 1 Cave! Bert starts the episode off comparing himself to minor league and Olympian athletes. What a surprise! Do you think Bert could challenge Caeleb Dressel at swimming? Israel Adesanya at fighting? What if they were both drunk? Tom tries talking about the new Chevrolet Corvette, 2 Bears Racing, and his genuine love for other people's fear, but Bert moves onto his favorite politician, Saparmurat Niyazov, talks about commissioning a statue of himself, and/or Tom Segura in pure bronze, and how excited he is for 2 Bears Racing! https://tomsegura.com/tourhttps://www.bertbertbert.com/bertyboytourhttps://store.ymhstudios.com/
