This week, we’re joined by David Rabinowitz and Charlie Wachtel, writers of 2018’s incredible BlacKkKlansman. Directed by the one and only Spike Lee, the film told the true-life tale of Ron Stallworth – a Black police detective working in 1970s Colorado, who attempted to infiltrate the white supremacist world of the KKK.The movie walked away with Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2018 Oscars, and for good reason. BlacKkKlansman was tense, darkly comic and disturbingly relevant – famously, the film ends with real-life footage of recent racist rallies in America, drawing a line between the events on screen and the times we’re living in today.Co-written by Lee and frequent collaborator Kevin Wilmot, the film’s a stylish, powerful thriller that speaks to violence and division of both Trump’s America and America’s past. We caught up with Charlie and David to hear about the racial fault lines they wanted the film to expose, the tricky task of laughing at bigots on screen without minimising their monstrousness, and the compelling character within the film that Jordan Peele secretly helped shape. Script Apart is a podcast about the first-draft secrets behind great movies. Each episode, screenwriters behind beloved films share with us their initial screenplay for that movie. We then talk through what changed, what didn’t and why on its journey to the big screen. All proceeds go to Black Minds Matter UK, the NHS Charities Covid-19 Appeal and the Film and TV Charity.Script Apart is hosted by Al Horner and produced by Kamil Dymek, with music from Stefan Bindley-Taylor. This week on Total Movie Recall, we find a new zest for life in 2001's Amelie. Steve gets wistful recalling his time working in a porn shop, and Ryan reveals his ignorance about Paris. But is it ignorance? Don't we kind of all know what Paris is really like? Smelly and smoky and rude? Not according to Amelie. Paris is a place of magical realism, true love, and tastefully decorated porn shops. Amelie (2001) d. Jean-Pierre Jeunet Starring: Audrey Tautou Mathieu Kassovitz Rufus Jamel Debbouze Isabelle Nanty Dominique Pinon "Amélie" is a fanciful comedy about a young woman who discretely orchestrates the lives of the people around her, creating a world exclusively of her own making. Shot in over 80 Parisian locations, acclaimed director Jean-Pierre Jeunet ("Delicatessen"; "The City of Lost Children") invokes his incomparable visionary style to capture the exquisite charm and mystery of modern-day Paris through the eyes of a beautiful ingenue. Coming on Christmas: INDIANA JONES REBOOTED! — QUOTES: “The writers for so long have been taken for granted, and are still being taken for granted right now. And hopefully there isn’t a strike, but if there ends up being one, I think people are really gonna be reminded of the value of writers.” “On the plus side, though, that makes you sound like a huge badass. Like, ‘Yeah! Bring on the death threats!’” “I eat death threats for breakfast!” “Yeah, exactly. My family didn’t think so.” “My writing partner and I don’t think the word ‘commercial’ should be a bad word. We want as many people as possible to see what it is that we’re creating.” “The ‘love story’ between him and Renee Zellweger is him exploiting a single mother, and then him realizing how sh**ty he’s been about it. That is their love story.” “Everybody’s always talking about, like, “Oh, your next movie could be a streaming movie, or it could be a movie that gets theatrical exhibition.’ And I’m like, ‘It’s gotta get theatrical exhibition.’” “If I have to choose a side, I’m on Team Scorsese, squarely.” “We’ve already kind of reinvented our own Jerry Maguire in a script that we’ve written. It’s kind of like a fusion between Jerry Maguire and Argo.” — SUBSCRIBE TO OUR PATREON! Amazing exclusive content and original art! SIGN UP FOR TOOTHBRUSHME.COM! Clean mouth. Clean planet. When is the last time you’ve been fired from a job? How did you handle it? This week’s guest screenwriter Charlie Wachtel knows the feeling. He’s been fired nearly more times than LeBron James has rings - so when a Facebook post sparked an idea for a potential movie and with some time on his hands he began co-writing a screenplay that quickly opened doors for him. So quickly that the script would get him in front of some of the biggest names in Hollywood- like Spike Lee, and on the biggest stages in the industry like the night he won an Oscar for his screenplay, BlacKKKlansman. The Academy Awards are almost here! First up, our conversation with the writers of 'BlacKkKlansman,' NJ's very own Charlie Wachtel and David Rabinowitz! They tell us what it was like working with Spike Lee, how they got the idea for the story, including how those final scenes came to be. Then Alex and I chat about why this year's Oscars are so different — and mean so much.
BlacKkKlansman is a 2018 American biographical comedy-drama film directed by Spike Lee and written by Charlie Wachtel, David Rabinowitz, Kevin Willmott, and Lee, based on the 2014 memoir Black Klansman by Ron Stallworth. The film stars John David Washington as Stallworth, along with Adam Driver, Laura Harrier, and Topher Grace. Set in 1970s Colorado Springs, the plot follows the first African-American detective in the city's police department as he sets out to infiltrate and expose the local chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. BlacKkKlansman premiered on May 14, 2018, at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Grand Prix. It was theatrically released in the United States on August 10, 2018, coinciding with the one-year anniversary of the white supremacist Unite the Right rally. The film received acclaim from critics, with critics praising the performances (particularly of Washington and Driver) and timely themes, as well as noting it as a return to form for Lee. The American Film Institute selected it as one of the top 10 films of the 2018 and at the 76th Golden Globe Awards, it earned four nominations, including Best Motion Picture – Drama.

Charlie Wachtel, who was given a diagnosis of “End-stage renal disease” and Dr. Peterson discuss strategies for overcoming potentially fatal conditions. The post Building Health by Design – SURVIVING AND THRIVING appeared first on WebTalkRadio.net.
Charlie Wachtel made a miraculous comeback in the last two and a half years from end stage kidney failure due to my health/wellness background. Things have been going so well that there is a possibility that I could be dialysis-free by June 2012. I would become one of the first peritoneal dialysis patients to ever be able to regenerate their kidneys on their own. My mission is to spread the word to everyone all around the world of the hidden epidemic of chronic kidney disease and especially the importance of what childhood obesity could eventually mean to a young person.
