The release of a new Star Wars film wouldn't be complete without checking in with filmmaker Kyle Newman to get his thoughts on the latest addition to the saga. Kyle joins us In The Cantina with his review of The Mandalorian and Grogu and provides insight as both an industry insider and Star Wars superfan. We've collected a ton of cool interview highlights from Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and Pedro Pascal discussing the Mando movie and screenwriter Damon Lindelof recently spoke about the Rey "New Jedi Order" film script he worked on before getting fired off the project. We hear what he had to say. Plus, listener feedback, a new RFR parody song, and we pay tribute to Marcia Lucas and Tom Kane.

Perfect for gamers and sci-fi fans alike. Are you a gaming or sci-fi enthusiast looking for the latest updates? If so, you're in the right place! In this post, we'll cover some exciting news from the worlds of gaming and sci-fi, including the cancellation of Baldur’s Gate 4, the upcoming Conan the Barbarian film, and a heartfelt tribute to a beloved voice actor. Let’s dive in! The Cancellation of Baldur’s Gate 4 The gaming community was recently hit with disappointing news: Baldur’s Gate 4 has been officially canceled. This decision comes after the release of Baldur’s Gate 3, which, while visually stunning, failed to capture the magic of the original titles. For many gamers, Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 are iconic, setting foundational standards for RPGs. Why Was Baldur’s Gate 4 Canceled? Lack of Player Engagement: Despite its hype, Baldur’s Gate 3 didn't reignite the passion for the franchise like its predecessors. Many players felt it focused too much on graphics at the expense of gameplay depth. Shifts in Development Focus: The team behind Baldur’s Gate has shifted resources to other projects, leading to the decision to cancel the sequel. Community Feedback: Developers often rely on community feedback, and the mixed reviews for Baldur’s Gate 3 likely influenced this decision. A Tribute to Tom Kane In a somber turn of events, the gaming and sci-fi communities mourn the passing of Tom Kane, a talented voice actor known for his roles in iconic franchises, including Star Wars. Kane brought to life several characters, including Jedi Master Yoda and Magneto, and his contributions to the industry will not be forgotten. Remembering Tom Kane Versatile Talent: Kane’s ability to adapt his voice for different characters made him a favorite among fans. Legacy in Voice Acting: His work in series like The Clone Wars and various video games has left a lasting impact on the industry. Community Reaction: Fans and colleagues alike have shared tributes, celebrating his life and career. The Return of Conan the Barbarian On a brighter note, the legendary Conan the Barbarian is making a comeback! A new film is set to be released, stirring excitement among fans of the franchise. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who famously played Conan in the original film, may return in some capacity. What to Expect from the New Film Sequel or Remake? While details are still scarce, it's rumored that the new film could be a sequel, possibly featuring an older Conan passing the torch to a new generation. Production Team: The involvement of experienced filmmakers is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the classic tale. Cultural Impact: Conan’s enduring legacy in the fantasy genre highlights the character’s significance, making this film highly anticipated. Conclusion In this post, we've explored the latest updates from the gaming and sci-fi worlds, including the unfortunate cancellation of Baldur’s Gate 4, a tribute to the late Tom Kane, and the exciting return of Conan the Barbarian. These stories remind us of the ever-evolving nature of our favorite genres. Key Takeaways Baldur’s Gate 4 has been canceled due to mixed reviews and development shifts. Tom Kane’s legacy as a voice actor will be cherished in the community. A new Conan the Barbarian film is on the horizon, promising to excite fans. The Fork In Your Ear Ep#214 The Mouse That Stole Tim's Soul - Podcast Show Notes Summary 5-30-26 Entertainment News: Tim gives his spoiler-light take on The Mandalorian & Grogu movie (he went in with zero expectations and came out pleasantly surprised—it feels like two high-budget episodes stitched together for the big screen). The guys also cover Sony's majority purchase of the Peanuts franchise, the sad passing of legendary voice actor Tom Kane, the X-Men '97 Season 2 trailer, Karen Gillan joining Shrinking Season 4, and their growing appreciation for the Bill Lawrence TV universe (Scrubs, Rooster, and Running Point with Kate Hudson). Nate's been revisiting Star Trek: Voyager reruns via Pluto TV's delightfully chaotic syndication shuffle. Life Stories: Tim opens up about the tough (and first-time) experience of letting go of his employee—who also happened to be a friend and next-door neighbor—after the guy couldn't pass the required technical test. Almost immediately they lucked into hiring a new team member from the glazing industry who's already bonding hard with Tim over Halo lore. Both hosts share how packed their June (and early July) calendars are with birthdays, a final trip to the soon-to-closing Wild Waves water park, family commitments, and a few show date bumps. Nate adds some wholesome dad moments, including joyful motorcycle rides with his daughter and niece that had everyone smiling. Gaming News: Tim is completely obsessed with Mina the Hollower, calling it one of the most charming, dense, and brilliantly designed 2D action-adventures he's ever played (think Link's Awakening meets Bloodborne with a sassy mouse protagonist, clever burrowing mechanics, absurd humor, and pixel-perfect modern polish). Nate has been tearing through Forza Horizon 6 in Japan, raving about the visual upgrades, weather effects, and dense world, while also dipping into Luna Abyss and looking forward to playing Destiny 2 post-sunset without the usual FOMO pressure. Tech News: They discuss Ferrari's sleek new $640K electric hypercar co-designed by Jony Ive (1,035 horsepower, physical buttons, curved display, and a very un-Ferrari-but-still-cool vibe), Meta's controversial new paid subscription tiers for Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp (alongside another round of layoffs in Seattle), and the spectacular methane-fueled rapid unscheduled disassembly (RUD) of Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket during a static fire test. They close with housekeeping notes about flexible scheduling through the busy summer months, but promise the episodes will keep coming. In March 2020, students across the country shifted to an unprecedented learning model as they logged onto their computers to attend classes on Zoom, forcing educators to quickly rethink how to effectively teach students in this new paradigm. As our education institutions worked to shift their models, the longstanding flaws and inequities in our system were put on full display. Now, more than two years later, we're grappling to fully understand the impacts of this disruption to student learning. What has happened to our students over the past two years? What have we learned from this experience? And what changes are necessary in order to prepare today's students to succeed in this fast-changing world? Over the next few weeks, we will be talking with education advocates, researchers, and change agents working to rethink our education system and provide better opportunities and outcomes for all students in a special series called “Catalysts for Change: What Is World Class Education?” In this first episode, Jill is joined by Tom Kane, Walter H. Gale Professor of Education and Economics at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Tom was a guest on this podcast as the pandemic was just beginning and we're excited to have him on again, this time to talk about his new research on student learning loss across the country.
