This week on Trek Geeks, Bill and Dan are donning their tuxedos (metaphorically, of course) and ordering their martinis "shaken, not stirred" as they dive into the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine classic, Our Man Bashir! Join us for a lively discussion of this holosuite caper that combines Star Trek's charm with a healthy dose of spy genre flair. But wait—there's more! The guys simply can't help themselves, so prepare for an avalanche of references to James Bond, Austin Powers, Our Man Flint, and even Matt Helm. From Sean Connery's suave moves to Mike Myers' groovy antics, nothing is off-limits as they connect the dots between 1960s spy kitsch and the future of Starfleet. You'll laugh, you'll groan (at Dan, mostly), and you might even be inspired to watch a Bond flick or two after this episode. Is this their most over-the-top discussion yet? Possibly. Is it a blast? Absolutely. Don't miss it! Grab your gadgets, geeks—this mission is about to self-destruct in 3… 2… 1…
Send us a textMy generation was one of the first to grow up in front of a TV Screen. I guess that's not necessarily a thing to brag about, but it was true. Saturday morning cartoons were a big deal for me. I would get up early and grab a big bowl of overly sugared breakfast cereal and settle down in front of the massive console TV in our basement for about 4 hours of formative brainwashing. That means my comedy sense tends to come from Loony Tunes.Or at least it started with Loony Tunes. Bugs Bunny make that wrong turn at Albuquerque always left me in stitches. As I grew up my comedic sense grew as well and the next bit of comedy gold that became my favorite was The Monkees. Mixing music with laughs was right up my alley. Follow that with my all time favorite, the Muppet Show (which I own on Blue-Ray by the way) and you can get a fair idea of my formative years. In my teens I started to watch all of those comedies I wasn't supposed to watch. Comedies like Our Man Flint, Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Caddyshack, and of course Porky's. And of course once I reached that milestone of adult hood I became enamored with the darker comedies like Raising Arizona and The Big Labowski. Finally lets not forget that my generation was the one that really started the Big Comedy Concerts. Richard Pryor: Live and Smoking, Eddie Murphy's Raw, and George Carlin's You are All Diseased. They were all funny irreverent, and outlandish. What does this have to do with roleplaying you might ask?In every group I have ever roleplayed with, Comedy has been important. Whether it's just a player breaking up a tense scene, or specifically including outlandish and slapstick situations for fun. Comedy plays a roll.In this episode Christina and I are going to talk about the Comedy Genre. About it's important elements and how it can add to your roleplaying games.Christina, you've heard about the comedy that entertained me growing up, What about you?[Kick to Christina]

In Like Flint is a 1967 American spy-fi comedy film directed by Gordon Douglas, the sequel to the parody spy film Our Man Flint (1966).It posits an international feminist conspiracy to depose the ruling American patriarchy with a feminist matriarchy. To achieve and establish this plan, they kidnap and replace the U.S. President, discredit the head of the Z.O.W.I.E. intelligence agency, and commandeer a nuclear-armed space platform, all directed from Fabulous Face, a women's beauty farm in the Virgin Islands. Circumstances compel ex-secret agent Derek Flint to help his ex-boss, and so uncover the conspiracy.Purchase the music (without talk) at:In Like Flint (classicalsavings.com)Your purchase helps to support our show! There were so many jumping off points actor who had almost 200 acting credits to his name on Broadway, television and film, we simply chose to jump right in. Andrew Duggan was known for a variety of roles in war films, Westerns, horror movies. For film buffs, he starred in films like Seven Days in May with Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglass. and In Like Flint with James Coburn. For TV fans, Duggan starred in everything from Alfred Hitchcock Presents to Lancer which plays a major role in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He was the voice of Bud Light for years as well as the Clio winning “Friend of the Family (Rust in Peace.” He starred on stage in The Rose Tattoo and Fragile Fox. He even starred in TV movies like The Deadliest Season with Meryl Streep in her first role and Rich Man, Poor Man. We talk about Richard's years growing up in Westwood where we find out he and our host went to the same high school as well as Richard's years acting and doing improv which led to roles in Troma's Toxic Avenger, Sam Arkoff's Q: The Winged Serpent, and Larry Cohen's It's Alive!. Most importantly, this might be the only podcast where you learn that Robin Williams studied Improv at the Pitzer colleges, Richard's alma mater. This week on the Rarified Heir Podcast we are talking to James Coburn, son of, you guessed it, James Coburn. It’s a wild ride on the podcast with topics ranging from Bruce Lee, The Muppets, Sam Peckinpah, the Z Channel, a 4 year trip to Africa, a Coburn biography based on his own words and much much more. It’s a deep dive into the Beverly Hills enclave of Tower Road with neighbors Jack Lemmon and Donald Sutherland, of being paid 1,0000 pesos a-day as an extra on Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid in Mexico, of drives on Mulholland Drive in his father’s Ferrari Spyder which sold In 2008 for almost $11 million dollars, of iced milk in Jamaica on location with Our Man Flint and ultimately a career as a Professional Sound Mixer at the New York Film Academy. It’s all next on the Rarified Heir Podcast in THX Spatial Audio, coming up next.

While some might chalk L.A.-based new wave band Wall of Voodoo's big hit Mexican Radio up as a novelty song, it touches on some surprisingly relevant themes. Inspired by the Mexican “border blaster” radio stations the band listened to as they drove around L.A., the song went to #58 in 1982 (#18 in Canada), blending new wave/synth sound with spaghetti western movie soundtrack inspiration. The band themselves provided the inspiration for other hits. Does the song hold up today? It sure does. Check Out the Video Enjoy some spaghetti western inspo from Ennio Morricone and from Jerry Goldsmith, whose theme for Our Man Flint made an appearance in Wall of Voodoo's cover of Ring of Fire. When a runabout gets blown up by space terrorists before the crew can fully transport to Deep Space Nine, it’s up to “Our Man Bashir” to keep their transporter patterns busy - and alive - in the holosuite. This send-up of James Bond (referencing another send-up of the superspy, Our Man Flint) is a holo-DELIGHT. Why does the holosuite always turn off safeties when things go wrong? Which actor plays the campiest character? Why does Garak want Bashir to kill everybody? Deep Space Nine’s least important officers discuss diplomatic mission invitations, cooking, and power coupling repairs on The Promenade. We encourage you to watch “Our Man Bashir” from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Season 4, Episode 10! Andy and Mark take on Derek Flint (James Coburn) in the Bond-inspired spy movies Our Man Flint and In Like Flint. More Austin Powers connections. Derek Flint is a Mary Sue. The Mediocre Seven. A long tangent about westerns, James Mangold, and Wolverine. Derek Flint is very American! Batgirl or Lily Munster? Flint vs. Batman '66. Just two dudes deciding whether something is feminist or not. Day of the Dolphin. Still better than Casino Royale. Mark thinks he could kick Coburn's ass. Respect to bouillabaisse accuracy. Look-- it's Hans Gruber! Why is this positive on Rotten Tomatoes? Next up are Live and Let Die, Zardoz and so on with the Moore movies. Lee J. Cobb is the Angriest of the 12 Angry Men. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/kissyourfranchisegoodbye/message

It’s a NEW YEAR and the Bondzilla Podcast returns with more connections to the two longest running franchises of film history. With both canons complete, it’s time for a year of Bond & Godzilla influenced films, starting with America's answer to 007 in "Our Man Flint."
This week we swing back to 1966 to catch the movie fox made to cash in on James Bond, Our Man Flint with special guest Alan Shane Lewis! We first go over a real life cold war spy who betrayed his homeland because of how nice he thought Ottawa was before going over the silly weird campy classic Our Man Flint!
Our season of spy films continues with this very strange parody. It’s 1967 and those Bond movies are making money, let’s jump in on that. Well, the first thing we need is a Connery. Hey, Sean Connery has a brother. Let’s call him? Does he act? Does it matter? Our friend Jacob Cook returns for this episode and we’re wondering if he’ll ever return. This is a bad, bad movie. As Paul says, “The main character’s super power is knowing what the hell is going on.” The film was originally titled, Operation Kid Brother, but in some releases it is called OK Connery because they just gave up on trying to be clever. What’s in the briefcase in Pulp Fiction may be a better discussion than this particular film. According to Wikipedia, the Moneypenny actress made more money for this than all the other Bond films. The Italian Dudley Moore? It’s Alvaro Vitali. And he’s not in this film, or it might be funny. Jacob compares this film to the last parody we watched with him, Our Man Flint. Neil Connery was a plasterer and an affordable Connery. Our hero practices the secret Tibetan art of hypnosis. Paul wonders if it is related to Calgon. Chris confuses Terrence Mann with Terrence Malick. We here at Film Frown apologize for this mistake, Mr. Mann. We love Critters and do not enjoy the sleepy films of Malick. Seeing the portable projector in the film, Chris says he’s 5 years sober from his addiction to woot!. Jacob quotes Insane Clown Posse for the first time in his life we’re guessing. “Magnet’s, how do they work?” The crime syndicate is Thanatos, not Thanos. While Paul says the music in the film is overpowering, Jacob points out that it was made by famous composer Ennio Moricone. Let’s avoid getting in trouble with copyright, but we’ll have a line referencing Ian Fleming. It confuses us all and we discuss this a lot. “Pull the levers!” is this movie’s “Blankets!” Curiously, United Artists released this film and the Bond films. So did they reuse the outfits in Starcrash? So in this film, Neil Connery is Scottish and does not, at all, sound like it. In Highlander his brother plays a Spanish character and does not, at all, sound like it. Thanks for listening! Thanks to Jacob for watching this atrocious film and teaching us the Dolph Lundgren nipple tolerance theory. Next up, a Neil Breen film. Support Film Frown on Patreon
A dancing, swinging, good time on this episode because Chris has quit the synopsis. So guests Jacob & Sean dive right into this film to talk Mormon spies, a harp as a weapon, the distinct varieties of bouillabaisse, and the island of misfit Canadians. In this film the title character is played by James Coburn who is playing Flint as Spock. Paul adds that this is Spock in the love planet episode. Sean says this film is way better than Murderer’s Row, the last film we asked him to watch. It has happened, we broke Jacob with Our Man Flint. The sequel to this film is Austin Power’s favorite film. Chris is waiting for the future these 60s films promised. Where are the pneumatic tubes? The organization bent on taking over the world reminds Jacob of E.V.I.L. from Spongebob Squarepants. Also, who knew there was a SpongePedia? “To the computer!” Everyone ran to UNIVAC or more precisely the women who program it, Hidden Figures for real. Well, in a movie from the time. Flint can do anything! A kick ass Jesus figure. Remember when we watched UHF? Here’s a trailer from that film for Gandhi II. The “incredulous” claim that this movie is the basis for Rain Man. An Automan reference that only Chris gets. Every movie needs a Hans Gruber? It’s Devon from Knight Rider playing Devon in this film, but he’s a bad guy? Bland villain is bland. The supervisor programming women to be “pleasure units” is Mr. Whipple? Say it isn’t so! This movie was premiered in Jamaica and reviewer Pauline Kael thought that was the only reason this movie received positive reviews. Not going to lie, Jacob is obsessed with Jodorowsky. He always brings up The Holy Mountain. Is he challenging us to watch this? Obviously Zardoz stole the “programming” scene from Our Man Flint. BLANKETS! Darwin Deez has this music video made entirely from stock footage. Directed by Keith Schofield. Sets, logos, and other designs from this film are used in the TV show Land of the Giants. Thanks for listening! This was a tremendous amount of fun thanks to Jacob and Sean. Check out Jacob on Twitter or his Slowne.ws. You’ve heard of Bond, but what about Matt Helms? When your friends start taking the Bond movies in a direction you don’t like, you go out and buy the rights to another spy novel, of course. Dean Martin plays the hero in this drunken series of a spy films. They’re like spy film lite. Sean Tilley joins us to talk 8th grade biology, quitting villainy to make toy models, and Bond’s alcoholism problem. Join us in our hovercraft with projected scenes in the windows as we get saucy with Dean Martin. Oh look, a misogynist trailer for the film! A A Ron! Sirius Stuff was falsely arrested before they actually caught Sirius Black. Murderers’ Row is the second film in the series, the first was The Silencers. This film and You Only Live Twice largely influenced Austin Powers. Is this a comedy? Paul says at least he knew Doctor Goldfoot and His Bikini Machine was. Sean believes the B.I.G.O. headquarters is something from The Holy Mountain. While Paul thinks set pieces are borrowed from Forbidden Planet. “Juicero tried.” We get a lesson in Mod. Oh hey, Dean Martin’s character “dies” just like Bond in the last movie we watched, You Only Live Twice. The bad jokes abound so much that characters seemingly ignore Dean Martin like he’s Al from Quantum Leap. Is Karl Malden your Pollyanna villain or Chris’ Jack Klugman. Hey, when your dad’s the star of the film you can get your band, Dino, Desi & Billy in the picture. Dean Martin’s blocking during scenes, when he’s not talking, is basically the male gaze. Ironhead is actually Bender? He blows fire! The dancing style has confused us all, including Dean Martin. The parade float dress made of flowers with, yet another crazy, crazy dancing scene. Is Ironhead Inspector Gadget, perhaps? A Knight Rider reference? Yes please. Chris shares his love for Mom and Dad Save the World. Behold the light grenade! Why do we like Dean Martin more in Cannonball Run? Sean thinks this bad film is no The Room. Is it Mike Myers or Michael Myers, we always get those two deadpan comedians confused. That was it for go-go dancing bombs and rat pack references. Thank you for listening and thanks to Sean Tilley for watching this film with us. Will he be back in Our Man Flint? Hi everybody it's Jeff Gelb I'm trying my hand at the brush pass to introduce you guys and gals to the wonderful world of Clyde Allison and his amazing character 0008 or Trevor Anderson who is Our Man From Sadisto. Believe it or not these books came out in the 1960s when I was a teenager and they were not sold at regular newsstands they were sold at adult bookstores! They were from a company San Diego based called Amber Library who also went through several other names. Clyde Allison was a house name as well. However it was really all the work of one brilliant writer named William Knowles who toiled in soft core porn obscurity. Throughout the 1960s and almost made it big time with some Lancer books in the late 60s but never quite broke through to a mainstream audience sadly even more sadly. He committed suicide in the late 1960s. It's quite a sad story. However his work in this series of books and there were 20 of them within four years. Think about that was brilliant and hilarious. The Our Man Sadisto series were spy fi sci fi sexy satires all incorporating science fiction elements and a heavy dollop of sexual innuendo. Now when I say that obviously you have to remember the times in the mid 1960s were not the early 2000's. You really could not get away with saying very much at all. So all of it was done by innuendo and all of it was hilariously done. Allison was actually a very brilliant writer who unfortunately just was never discovered by the mainstream press and I don't know why. But he obviously knew where he spoke in terms of spy novels he was well versed in what was going on around him at the time and he used characters and situations from other people's spy novels as satirical jumping off points. As I said there were 20 books in this series starting with our man from Sadisto in 1965 and ending with the Desert Damsels in 1968, nineteen out of twenty of these books have absolutely brilliant cover art paintings by an artist named Robert Bonfils who just died fairly recently. He painted dozens if not hundreds of paperback covers for these sleaze publishers in the 1960s and he was really quite brilliant himself. If you don't believe me please look up Our Man From Sadisto by Clyde Allison on the Internet and you will find all of his amazing covers. One of the things that was just great about these books for me as a teenager and still great re-reading them today is that they all included references to then current spy movies or book characters. There were frequent mentions of Our Man from Uncle, the James Bond character himself. Modesty Blaise and even more obscure characters like The Man From Orgy which by the way was a series that was nowhere near as funny or clever as the Man from Sadisto books were. The most famous real world so to speak character that Clyde Allison used in several of his books was a reference to the Our Man Flint movie because for some reason the Our Man Flint movie had flint reading a spy novel featuring 0008. It was of course a complete coincidence. I am quite certain that the writer of the Our Man Flynt movie had no idea there was a character called 0008. Because again these were never sold on the mainstream newsstands. However in the movie. Our Man Flint meets the triple 0 8 character and they have a scuffle in a French restaurant. If you want to go back and check the movie out you will see that scene. It's very very funny. The books were hilarious. They were full of science fiction elements like machines that made people want to have sex nonstop stuff like that. There were maniacal super-villains who wanted to take over the world. There were constant references to all of the other spy characters of the time and they were brilliantly written. Now in 160 pages which is all that Clyde Allison had to work with for each book I would say a good hundred pages out of 160 were usually sexually oriented material. However again we're talking about sex as defined in the mid 60s. And so what he had to do was to continually reinvent the wheel in terms of how he described his characters having sex and that in itself is hilarious. I loved these books as a teenager and have recollected them. As a person in my mid 60s and I still find them hilarious and well worth reading and collecting. They're very rare. They're very hard to find. If you can find any on the Internet. Grab one and have the experience of a lifetime. Be prepared to laugh out loud. And don't be drinking anything while you're reading the book because you might spit it out when you start laughing. Seriously. Clyde Allison was an amazing talent. These are all very funny books. They are of course very much of their time. But that was a really crazy time. These are really crazy books and they're really worth trying to find. I don't believe any of these are currently available. I believe they're tied up the rights for these are tied up somewhere so that they cannot be legally reprinted although I noticed that a couple of them have been reprinted anyway and you can pick them up on various Internet websites for under fifteen dollars. Again these may or may not be legitimate reprints but if you want to if I have whet your appetite whetted your appetite at all to listen to. Sorry to read the adventures or the misadventures of the greatest spy lover of all time Trevor Anderson of Sadisto better known as triple 0 8 then please do yourself a very big favor and pick one of those up. And I am almost positive you'll agree with me that these are some of the funniest books you will ever read.

Mr.F returns with four classic guests to discuss Austin Powers The Spy Who Shagged Me & Austin Powers in Goldmember. Do they still hold up (or were they even good in the first place?) ; we'll be the judge of that! *Recorded before we knew Kevin Spacey was a scum bag* The Austin Powers 2 review ends at 1:10:33 ;) Here is a link to a trailer for this week's film recommendation "Our Man Flint" :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQwJQkEh2QY Rate, Like , Subscribe and find us on: Facebook and Twitter @Mrfranchisepod Itunes, Stitcher, Soundcloud + Many More Pod Apps @Mrfranchise Instagram @shoreloser

In their effort to present the most comprehensive coverage of 1960s spy culture, Tom and Derrick begin their examination of some of the spies who gave Bond a run for his money, beginning with the cerebral, eccentric, and suave Derek Flint. Join the Boys From Brooklyn as they look at the adventures of the renaissance man that James Coburn turned into a cult hero, tracing his adventures from Our Man Flint to In Like Flint to the highly obscure, near-forgotten (and with good reason) Flint television pilot, Our Man Flint: Dead on Target. Plus a preview of other episodes in the Rivals of Bond series, Derrick wants Yvonne Craig to shake her money-maker, and a look at the two Flint movies (one written by Harlan Ellison) that never got to the screen. Wipe that look off your Zowie Face and get to clicking!
