One Distillery, Two Time Zones, and Corsets and Whips, Oh My! Husband-and-wife team BIll and Johanna Welter came to whiskey through very different paths - thankfully, their union has produced not one, but two distilleries from which Journeyman's whiskies and spirits spring forth. Bill's passion for golf led him to St. Andrews, Scotland; Johanna's path led through hospitality, drinking whiskey at a time when "most women were drinking cosmos". Somehow, Journeyman is still an under-the-radar distillery, albeit one with two locations (in Three Oaks, Michigan and Valparaiso, Indiana). For those in the know, they're producing some of the best wheat and wheated whiskey in the country, and for this episode I got to try their high-rye cask strength bourbon which, for my mind, might be even better than their wheaters. And to be clear, their wheated products are exempt from my recent distaste for wheaters...they are complete whiskies, whether one grain or multiple, and remain some of the few I'd have on my shelf. Journeyman also holds distinction as a long-tenured distillery in the craft scene, launched in 2011 during the end of the first wave or beginning of the second (Bill wasn't quite sure, so we'll hedge!). They've turned that presence into their own formal and informal mentorship programs, lending help and knowledge to a new generation of distillers. We also touch on the impact of recent tariffs and their Ingrained program, opening up contract distilling to producers without their own capacity in Journeyman's new 140,000 square foot Valparaiso location. Jesus has two temple clearings in the Gospels. John 2:13-17 (earlier in His ministry) and Mark 21:12-14 - Jesus went straight to the Temple and threw out everyone who had set up shop, buying and selling. He kicked over the tables of loan sharks and the stalls of dove merchants. He quoted this text:My house was designated a house of prayer; You have made it a hangout for thieves. Now there was room for the blind and crippled to get in. They came to Jesus and he healed them.So how do we create an atmosphere that's welcoming to others.

This pod is an outlet to vent after watching Real Housewives of Atlanta where Brit seemingly faced no network consequences for trying to intimidate and/or threaten a cast member by talking about having a weapon - and then watching a ridiculous ending to a slow paced, multi-season Yellowstone prequel. Kenya absolutely went too far, however it was odd to not see swift action to check a cast member for bringing up weapons at all, and that Kenya's prepared remarks and displays were a complete surprise to producers. Then, I loosely summarize the plot of Yellowstone 1923, a show whose last bundle of episodes were riddled with extreme violence towards its women characters. My rant on the show focuses on writer/creator Taylor Sheridan's choice to continue that trend and end the series with a grand display of senseless loss felt less like an attempt to relay life's harsh realities and more like emphatic overkill. Yellowstone 1923 rant starts at 28:46 and is FULL OF SPOILERSAll opinions are personal and not representative of any outside company, person, or agenda. In our latest ‘Whipping Yarn', we talk with Simon Hart, former Conservative Chief Whip during Rishi Sunak's Premiership. Hart opens up about his time in one of Westminster's most demanding and discreet roles, chronicled in his new book, ‘Ungovernable: The Political Diaries of a Chief Whip'. From late night phone calls about MPs stuck in compromising situations to managing high-stakes parliamentary votes, Hart gives a candid account of navigating one of the most turbulent chapters in British politics. He lifts the lid on the daily challenges of keeping a restless party in line while balancing scandals, shifting alliances, and the relentless demands of government business.Hart also takes us behind the scenes of the Whips' Office – a place often shrouded in secrecy. Beyond the headlines and power plays, he gives us a rare glimpse into the day-to-day work of the Whips – part disciplinarian, part therapist – shedding light on their lesser-known pastoral and administrative responsibilities, from safeguarding MPs' well-being to orchestrating the daily rhythms of Parliament.Reflecting on his time in office, Hart shares insights into what makes a good MP and why so many arrive in Westminster unprepared for the job and the reality of life as a parliamentarian or minister. He argues that political parties must do more to identify and nurture talent early, to raise the standard of future leadership across the board.
A neighborhood staple in Belmont has found itself in the social media spotlight. WBZ's Madison Rogers has the story.
Why do the wrong people become MPs? How can we transform Westminster into a modern day workplace? How did Simon Hart's time at The Countryside Alliance inform his politics? Rory and Alastair are joined by the ex-Tory Chief Whip, Simon Hart, to discuss all this and more. I received an email from the ex-wife of a serial killer. The subject reads: “ I was married to a serial killer for 7.5 years and I need help!!” Her ex husband was sentenced to death for the murder of 3 women. When authorities searched his house they found a soundproof torture chamber. Whips, iron chains, and many many files. Video files of him torturing his victims - plucking out their nails one by one. Now, his ex wife has come forward to ask for help. She was not only one of the first people he tried to kill but now her son (that she shares with him) has been taken. The serial killer's mother has taken her son and now she's on the hunt to get him back. Most of us have probably read or heard some version of the postman's creed but according to the U.S. Postal Service, the organization has no official creed or motto. The United States Post Office was founded by the Second Continental Congress in Philadelphia on June 26, 1775, at the start of the American Revolution but it was not until around 1914 when an architectural firm in New York City, popularized the motto when they inscribed the words “Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail, nor armed villains deterred this hardy courier” on the exterior walls of the New York City Post Office.
We've hired elves to recreate these popular songs on DJX. How many can you get right?
Philadelphia-based garage band Low Cut Connie is led by pianist, and songwriter Adam Weiner, who has been sexing up piano-based party rockenroll for quite some time. Along the way, critics anointed them with either or both the words “scuzz(ball)” and “sleaze”, later amplified by a Nashville local paper, who called them “Sultans of Sleaze” in a cover story. Their latest full-length, Art Dealers, celebrates hard at the intersection of sleazy and soulful, and “is all kink and no shame,” says Weiner in the press release. It sees the singer and pianist looking back at his early days in New York, -and to the gritty New York of Lou Reed and Patti Smith- with reckless abandon. Low Cut Connie lets loose with some of their wild, passionate rockenroll, in-studio. Set list: 1. Sleaze Me On 2. Are You Gonna Run? 3. Whips and Chains

In this episode of "Hey Sis, Eat This," we sit down with the hilarious comedy dou, The Sklar Brothers, Jason and Randy, to discuss their journey through comedy and how their upbringing played a huge role in their success, today. Jason and Randy delve into their childhood in St. Louis, sharing how their very funny father's offbeat parenting methods not only influenced but encouraged their comedic paths. However, the true STAR of this episode is their Momma Annette, whose remarkable story includes her family's escape from the Holocaust and the heart-wrenching experience of losing a child. The brothers lovingly depict how these challenges shaped her resilience, her nurturing spirit and the immense gratitude she's always had for the life they live. The Sklar family dinner table was filled with lots of laughter and love. According to Randy and Jason, the simple act of gathering around the table is what instilled accountability and communication within their household, a tradition the brothers continue in their homes today. It wouldn't be a Hey Sis Episode if we didn't highlight Momma Annette's signature recipe. The boys favorite dish, hands down, is her Mayfair dip, an anchovy-based dressing created at the Mayfair Hotel in downtown St. Louis. It was first served in the hotel's restaurant, The Mayfair Room, the first five-star restaurant in Missouri. This tightly guarded recipe that Momma Annette has turned into a dip remains a culinary staple for every Sklar family gathering. During the rapid-fire questions segment, Momma Annette makes a surprise cameo.
