Zoe Friedman shines in the studio with Greg and Dustin this week, talking about her parents and her passion for comedy and helping comics with her organization, Comedy Gives Back. Comedy Gives Back is the safety net for the comedy community by providing financial crisis relief, mental health and chemical dependency treatment sponsorship, and continued community support. Zoe's keen knowledge of the comedy world has its roots in her childhood, where she grew up at the world-famous comedy club, The Improvisation. Zoe landed her first job at Late Show with David Letterman where her ability to find and develop strong comedic voices evolved. During her 9 years at Worldwide Pants, she introduced David Letterman, and the world, to talents such as Louis CK, Jim Gaffigan, Mitch Hedberg and Eddie Izzard. Worldwide Pants moved her to Los Angeles to help guide the launch of The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn. Due to her strong comedic instincts, Zoe was brought into Comedy Central's development department where she fulfilled her desire to broaden her scope and to work with comedians on more than 5 minutes of material. During her successful 10 years at Comedy Central, she helped create and oversee stand-out programming such as Drawn Together, Lil Bush, Dog Bites Man, Crossballs, Comedians of Comedy, and Important Things with Demetri Martin. In 2013, she executive produced a documentary The Improv: 50 Years Behind The Brick Wall which premiered on EPIX and is currently available on Netflix. Enjoy Jon Reep's full interview with comedian Sean Conroy! They talk comedy inspirations, standup versus improv comedy, and how comedians are dealing with the current world situation.Acerbic comedian Sean Conroy is self-lacerating and constantly annoyed- at himself and everybody else- but always manages to sneak in a healthy dose of silliness and joyful charm. Splitsider.com describes him as “intimidatingly smart, intimidatingly funny, and just plain intimidating.”He’s a multi-disciplined comedy tour-de-force. As a stand-up, Sean’s performed on Conan and Comedy Central. As an improviser, he was a founding member of the first ever house team at The Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, legendary improv group The Swarm, and has been a regular in the UCB’s flagship show ASSSSCAT for almost twenty years (in fact they asked him to perform with them when they recorded their live show for Shout Factory, still available on DVD). He’s been a television writer for over a decade (Key & Peele, Crossballs, Dog Bites Man, Gentlemen Lobsters, Players, Love Inc.), most recently finishing up his third season as head writer of Adult Swim’s cult favorite Mr. Pickles, about a dog who’s sort of like Lassie (except he worships Satan, and is a serial killer). He’s hosted over 325 episodes of his podcast, The Long Shot (which the AV Club calls “rollicking” and “a consistent delight”). He enjoys good coffee, mediocre whiskey, and ship novels. Check out his website at seanconroy.com, follow his 2017 tour at worldssmallestgiant.com, and follow him on IG and Twitter at @seanconroy.
On today's episode I talk to TV writer Josh Siegal. Originally from Niskayuna, New York, Josh took a non-traditional route into TV writing, but that route led to some amazing jobs on shows like Viva Variety, the original UCB sketch show, Crossballs, Monk, 30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Great News and currently The Good Place, which is in the middle of finishing up its final season on NBC. Happy Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza and Tuesday to you! Sorry for the delay on our usual Monday Podcast release. As I'm sure you understand, we take days off just like regular working folks for the holidays. And now we are back and bearing a gift of Tallman. You may remember him from the hilarious "Crossballs" or Channel 101's delightful hit, "Time Belt" or more recently from the Nickelodeon smash, "The Thundermans". And to us, he's a super hero as well, with a special power of making us laugh. We are so thankful Chris made some time for us here in the Coop so we could discuss his past performances, child rearing, impersonation contests, dealing with millennial co-stars and so much more! After a rough year all over the social stratosphere, we are so happy to end it (podcast-wise) on a high note with Chris. Enjoy! One more thing, if you are still reading this, we wanted to thank you so much for subscribing and listening to our show. We do make an effort to entertain, make you laugh, spread some positivity and maybe even make you think a little bit. We welcome your input: Dudes@dudesoffuturepast.com @DOFPCAST Thanks and we will see you soon in 2017! - The Dudes Â
