This was one of my favorite conversations over the last year or so. Figured it'd be nice to share it again...   We are joined in this episode by Writer, Producer, Actor and Mentor, LARRY WILMORE! We discussed what drew Larry to comedy, writing, acting and producing; and, yes, we did talk about the WGA strike; why, as a kid, he was compelled by the work of such greats as Houdini, Buster Keaton, the Marx Brothers and Flip Wilson; rebounding from professional setbacks and keeping a healthy mindset; his thoughts on the "TP&R question" - how to be better at talking about politics and religion across our differences; and we got pretty deep with the concept of consciousness, meaning and why humans have a desire to have a life of meaning.   Emmy Award winner Larry Wilmore is a prolific producer, actor, comedian, and writer. He is also the host of the excellent podcast Larry Wilmore: Black on the Air. Larry is perhaps best known for his role as host of Comedy Central's The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore and as the “Senior Black Correspondent” on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Off-screen, Larry serves as co-creator and consulting producer on HBO's Insecure, and helped to launch ABC's black-ish as an executive producer and is a co-creator of the spin-off Grownish. Previously, he has written for In Living Color, The PJ's (which he co-created), The Office (on which he also appeared), and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He also served as creator, writer, and executive producer of The Bernie Mac Show, which earned him his Emmy for “Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series” and a 2001 Peabody Award. In 2016, Larry hosted the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner. Larry is also an author, having released his first book, I'd Rather We Got Casinos and Other Black Thoughts, in January 2009.   Talkin' Politics & Religion Without Killin' Each Other is part of The Democracy Group, a network of podcasts that examines what's broken in our democracy and how we can work together to fix it.   www.democracygroup.org/shows/talkin-politics-religion   www.threads.net/@coreysnathan   www.theringer.com/larry-wilmore-black-on-air   Reasonable Doubt on Hulu - www.hulu.com/series/reasonable-doubt-226c1cc5-ecc9-4d26-83a6-40131a93ed19   Jerry and Marge Go Large - www.paramountplus.com/shows/paramount-plus/video/B8wTNAzgYrU2jPLef3IehO_xl_sg15pn/jerry-marge-go-large-cast-featurette-paramount-/   twitter.com/larrywilmore   www.threads.net/@larrywilmore

Episode 78 of The Hitstreak, a podcast where we talk about anything and everything!  This week, we're joined by comedian Doug Williams. Doug has been feathers on BET, Starz, Comedy Central & Co-writer of the New Harlem Globetrotter's Spreadgame Tour! Let us know in the comments what YOU want to hear about next!About our Guest:Doug was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama and quickly realized that he had an affinity for entertainment. After being put out of a local high school rap group because his rhymes were more humorous than serious, a friend suggested he give stand-up comedy a try. So Doug stepped on stage at a comedy club in Huntsville, Alabama for the first time and found his calling. His off-beat style of stand-up comedy that often surrounds relationships with women and his life made him a favorite on BET's (Black Entertainment Television) “Club Comic View” and “It's Showtime at the Apollo.” He has been featured on “Comedy Central Presents Doug Williams” Doug's talents as a comedian/actor led him to be cast as a series regular in the role of Kevin on the HBO's series “The Mind of the Married Man.” Doug has also guest starred on “The Bernie Mac Show,” and “Close to Home.” He is starring in the up-and-coming feature film “The Trace” with Billy Dee Williams and Lynn Whitfield. Doug is the first Black comedian to create, host and produce his own stand-up comedy series, and it was the Starz Network's first original hit series “Martin Lawrence Presents 1st Amendment Stand Up.” The late-night stand-up comedy show featured some of the nation's legendary, established, & hottest up-and-coming urban comedians. The show ran for five successful seasons and helped add to the resumes of “The Hangovers'” Ken Jeong and “The Talks'” Sheryl Underwood. 1st Amendment Stand-Up was the number one rated show on Starz for five years and pave the way for other original series like “Boss,” and “Spartacus.” Doug went on to produce “Way Black When” for The TV One Network. The high rated series was featured during Black History Month and focused on the dramatic, musical, and comedic portrayals of African Americans through the lens of black music, film and television in the 70's, 80's and early 90's. Presently, Doug has formed DNA Media Productions with his wife Ada Luz Pla-Williams. They have several projects in development. Currently they are creators and co-executive producers of “Runnin the Streetz with Doug Williams.” A fast paced comedy show built for today's A.D.D., “YouTube” mixed cultural audience. The show contains outrageous sketches, celebrity guests, street pranks, and today's hottest music performers.Follow and contact:dougwilliams.net  Instagram: @mrdouglaswilliams About Our Sponsor:RAC Financial has the integration of partner solutions that every business owner needs to be successful. Known as one of the Original Kings of Comedy with Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, and Cedric the Entertainer—the legendary comedian, Bernie Mac, is now featured in a book of inspirational quotes and daily motivations called, “I Don't Care If You Like Me, I Like Me.” A native of Chicago, Bernie Mac developed a comedic style of storytelling that was aggressive, honest, and straight-up, in-your-face humor that only he could uniquely pull off or get away with onstage and onscreen. His wife, Rhonda McCullough, held on to old tapes and vintage recordings of the Emmy award-winning actor to construct the book where each day of the year features an interesting quote of affirmation in the voice of Bernie Mac. Join Host Eddie Robinson as he speaks candidly with his wife, Rhonda McCullough, about why she chose this format to pay tribute to her late husband, who died in 2008 from complications of a disease known as sarcoidosis. I SEE U also chats unguarded with the master impressionist who served as the narrator of the audiobook, comedian Reggie Reg.
