As morning man at ‘DC101' WWDC, Stern was reacting to the Air Florida flight that crashed into the bridge in February 1982. ‘What's the price of a one-way ticket from National to the Fourteenth Street Bridge?' he asked. ‘Is that going to be a regular stop?'”Via insideradio.comAlso Stern did not call the actual Air Florida ticket counter, because as most of us know, talk radio prank calls are faked. The Beach Boys, One Up Ashe, rescue dogs, Billie Eilish, and my pitch to manage her are just some of the MANY things we discussed.

Like everything else in the world, Head Retention has grounded to a halt due to Covid-19. Before, the podcast gets back up and running full time, Roche and Lashelle catch up with each other and you on what's changed in the craft beer world now...and in the future. Go to www.biermi.com to find out what breweries deliver in your area and how your brewery can get listed.
Pearl Jam is the transition from the early '00s to the era we are still in today (unless you consider Gigaton the start of the next era...which Roche may agree with). It's the band's first album without the shackles of a major label and because of that, they were much more "available" to do promotion of it. In this episode of Jamily Matters,Roche and Billie Jean reminisce about the release of Avocado and how the experiences around its release are in a lot of ways more memorable than the songs themselves. Come for the rankings of this solid (but unspectacular) album, stay for the comps to...Collective Soul!?!?!?
The new season of Pitch Pass is here! First guest of the year is D.C. United captain, Steven Birnbaum. It's his second stint as captain of the Black and Red and he tells Roche what he's learned since his first tenure. Then, Roche and Steve discuss the life changing money to be made in MLS now, sitting next to "regular" people on flights, the DCU new boys, being a #GirlDad, and what it's like being Wayne Rooney's friend off the pitch.
Pearl Jam's third studio album cemented their status as "Biggest Rock Band In The World" while also laying the groundwork from their (voluntary) descent from those heights. It's an album containing some of the band's most popular songs alongside some of their most experimental compositions. It's their last grunge album and a glimpse at where they would go next.
A bump in the road? For Pearl Jam, Binaural could be considered a bump in the road...or a warning sign that the band was entering their post peak phase. For Billie Jean and Roche, it's the first episode where their rankings diverge so severely that it causes some friction between the hosts. Either way, this episode of Jamily Matters is when the gloves come off and the passion inflames.
Cannabis sounds like it would be awesome to have in your beer...in theory. But what about in reality? Would a beer brewed with cannabis be good or just a marketing stunt? What style of beer would cannabis augment? And how close are we to having it legally brewed into beer? This episode of Head Retention does a deep dive into the question of Cannabis (or CBD) and beer. Roche and Lashelle are joined by Blane of Sinistral Brewing to discuss the moral, financial, and practical reasons behind cannabis in your beer. Sinistral Brewing Company: http://sinistralbrewingcompany.com/
According to Roche, "No Code is the bouncer at the door of Pearl Jam fandom." It's the album that signaled a change of direction for the previously grunge band and it always ranks high on lists for "hardcore" fans. After discussing the importance of No Code (17:50), Roche and Billie Jean give their rankings of the songs on this career changing album.
Lashelle prides herself on finding the perfect beer for everyone. Even non craft beer lovers! Her skills are put to the test on this episode of Head Retention as she tries to find an IPA that legendary country music radio personality, Michael J, will enjoy. Michael is a Coors Light man from way back and HATES the test of an IPA. Or so he thinks. After Roche and Lashelle set the scene (11:27), the stage is set for the Michael J IPA taste challenge!
Sabrina is going to Disney and wants Roche's mom's help in planning the trip. Plus, Roche has a BIG issue with the scooter overpopulation at Disney World. But first, an update on Sabrina's ash spreading trip to New York. And if you think Roche is crazy after listening to his rant, check out this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ChdPhW6IWw
Pearl Jam dropped a ton of news over the last week so an emergency edition of Jamily Matters was called. Roche and Billie Jean break down all the news, analyze the Gigaton roll out, what they loved about it and what could have been done better, and give their expectations for the new album. Then, they reveal what shows they are hoping to hit up on the tour.
Is Vs. the most important Pearl Jam album? You can make a strong case that it is and on this episode of Jamily Matters, Roche and Billie Jean discuss why (12:22) then give their rankings of the album that solidified the band's place in rock music.
Searching for “whales” was something the craft beer culture was built on. But with beer much easier to get, does it still make sense to hunt? Is it “worth” it? Roche and Jon from Solace Brewing share some hunting stories before Roche laments the loss of the hunt. Then, Lashelle shares her white whale with the group to….unique results.
When the news broke that Constellation was selling Ballast Point to a small brewery just outside of Chicago, the ramifications reverberated throughout the industry. Roche, Lashelle, and Jon of Solace Brewing Co. discuss all the angles of this deal and what it means for the craft beer industry moving forward.
After a string of solid but unspectacular efforts, Backspacer showed the world that Pearl Jam still had "it." On this episode of Jamily Matters, Roche and Billie Jean discuss the band's ninth studio album and its importance to the PJ catalog (5:36) before ranking the songs on this underrated album.
Two great nights of music at DC101derland, two great conversation with up and coming artists. First, DC transplants (wut?) Winnetka Bowling League discuss bands staying at AirBnBs, the SoCal vibe to their music, and more. Then, (legit) DC natives Shaed join Roche and talk Shake Shack, their whirlwind year, and STING!
Night 1 of DC101-derland was fantastic but all of the fun didn't happen on stage. Roche, Mike Jones, and Klinger let you in on all the ridiculousness that went down backstage including Roche's car almost getting towed and some "alleged" vocal rest of one of the singers.
Passion has to start somewhere and in this episode of Jamily Matters, Billie Jean and Roche share the origins of their passion for Pearl Jam. They'll also break down what you can expect from the podcast and what the first series of episodes will be about.
With the industry getting more local and more saturated, Roche and Lashelle wonder what the future of craft beer festivals (local and national) holds. Chris of Fairwinds Brewery and Dave of Ocelot Brewing Co join them to weigh the pros and cons for both brewers and consumers. Also, do winning medals have value and what exactly is a "crispy boy"? It's all in this episode of Head Retention.
Elliot Segal, host of the popular Elliot in the Morning show on DC101 in Washington D.C., talks about his career and what it takes to run a successful radio show.
