During his speech at the opening of the Obama Presidential Center, former President Barack Obama claimed that America is on stolen land and claimed that the founding fathers fell “terribly short” of keeping the promises in the Declaration of Independence. Glenn tries to keep his composure as he points out the flaws in Obama's speech. Glenn monologues on how, despite how hard life can be, humans were made to withstand hardship. Glenn urges listeners to embrace their humanity, wisdom, and God-given purpose to build, heal, and live. Glenn plays some shocking audio regarding the Strait of Hormuz as the U.S. and Iran continue to negotiate a peace deal. On her last day as the director of national intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard dropped multiple bombshells, including revelations about Ukraine, COVID, and Anthony Fauci. Will we finally demand that people be held accountable for lying to the American people? Screenwriter Diederik Hoogstraten joins to discuss the upcoming film he co-wrote, “Young Washington,” which opens in July. Welcome back to the podcast. With Father's Day here, I wanted to have a conversation that would cause all of us to pause and think a little differently about one of the most important relationships in our lives: the relationship we have with our dads. Today's guest is Mick Naples, author of Walking with Grizzlies, a book he wrote after losing his father and realizing there were lessons, conversations, and moments he wished he hadn't taken for granted. What I loved about this conversation is that it isn't really about fatherhood—it's about being a son or daughter and asking what responsibility we have in nurturing those relationships while we still can. One of the things that stood out to me most was Mick's honesty. He openly shares that while he loved his dad, he didn't always appreciate him. In fact, many of the things he now treasures were the very things he overlooked when his dad was alive. As he reflected on his father's life after his passing, he began to see qualities, sacrifices, and acts of love that had always been there but that he simply hadn't fully recognized. It made me think about how often we focus on our parents' shortcomings while missing the gifts they've given us. And while none of our parents are perfect, that doesn't mean they aren't worthy of honor, gratitude, and intentional connection. We also talked about something that we discuss often in Family Brand: relationships don't grow by default. They grow by design. As children become adults, the automatic proximity that once existed starts to disappear. We move away, build our own families, get busy with work, and suddenly years can pass without truly investing in the relationship. Mick challenged me to think differently about that. Instead of asking what our parents could be doing differently, what if we asked what role we have in strengthening those relationships? What conversations have we been putting off? What questions haven't we asked? What stories haven't we taken the time to hear? Another part of the conversation that really stayed with me was the idea that many of the things our parents did that frustrated us as children can look very different through the lens of adulthood. As we become parents ourselves, we start to understand the weight of responsibility, the difficult decisions, and the imperfect ways people try to show love. It doesn't excuse every mistake, but it often creates empathy. And sometimes empathy opens the door to healing, understanding, and deeper connection. More than anything, this episode felt like an invitation. An invitation to be intentional. To make the call. Ask the question. Write the letter. Schedule the visit. Have the conversation you've been meaning to have. Because one of the hardest lessons Mick learned is that sometimes "later" never comes. And if there's one takeaway I hope you carry from this episode, it's this: don't wait until a relationship becomes a memory to start appreciating it. Hey, Scuttlebutt listeners. Thank you for joining us and for your continued support. This week, we welcome the Vice President of the Marine Corps Association Foundation, retired Col Tim Mundy, to the scuttlebutt. With Father's Day coming up this weekend, we thought it would be fun to bring someone who is the son of, and father of, a Marine. We mention in the conversation how “Hallmark holidays” are not really our bag, but having the opportunity to talk to someone like Col Mundy about the dynamics of both growing up in a Marine family and raising kids in a Marine household seemed really interesting. We've wanted to get Tim on the show for some time, so this was the perfect excuse. For those who aren't familiar with the Mundy name, Tim's dad, Gen Carl Mundy, was the 30th Commandant of the Marine Corps, serving in that role from 1991 to 1995. Before you roll your eyes, thinking of course we would interview a Commandant's kid, it was really beautiful to hear Tim's story of growing up with a father who would become Commandant, serving as an infantry officer during his dad's tenure as Commandant, and the lessons his dad imparted upon him as he became a father in uniform. This was a great opportunity to hear some of the more human sides of Marine “celebrity” and how, at the end of the day, whether you're the Commandant or a PFC, the relationship between a father and son knows no rank. Enjoy! The post #248: Son, Father, Marine with Col Tim Mundy (Ret.) first appeared on Marine Corps Association.

With Father's Day just around the corner, we're reaching back into our library to bring you one of the most moving conversations we've had at this table — and one that has stayed with us long after the microphones turned off.At 72 years old, Marine combat veteran Rand R. Timmerman did something most people half his age will never attempt. He hiked the entire 2,100-mile Appalachian Trail. But this wasn't just an adventure — it was a mission of love.Rand's brother Ron, a 71-year-old Army veteran, was drowning in grief after losing his wife. Rand himself was in recovery from alcoholism. What began as a physical challenge became a spiritual passage — one that transformed both brothers in ways neither of them anticipated. In this deeply moving conversation, Rand shares the humor, danger, heartbreak, and healing that unfolded mile after mile. From critters and storms to moments of grace and unexpected human kindness, this is a story about resilience, brotherhood, and the extraordinary power of nature — and love — to restore the soul.As we head into Father's Day weekend, we couldn't think of a more fitting story to share. It's about showing up. About choosing someone else's healing alongside your own. About what it means to be a brother, a veteran, and a human being walking forward — one step at a time. Game-Theory Coaching vs Kid DevelopmentHost Deven Morgan kicks things off with quick housekeeping—new discount code, what's on tap—and then reads a heartfelt email from a parent whose son thrived at a recent Driveline Youth Camp. The note sets the stage for a deep dive into why the Academy launched youth-only programs and how age-appropriate “snapshot → train → retest” cycles build confidence instead of anxiety. From there Deven zooms out to the bigger youth-baseball ecosystem:Game-theory coaching vs. kid development – He dismantles the “just throw strikes / walks are triples” mantra and argues that victories built on walking weak hitters stunt real growth.Power on pint-sized fields – A look at bunting, barrel control, and how tiny 60-foot diamonds shape strategy—and too often push 1.6–1.8 million kids out of the sport every year.Chasing exit velocity the right way – Practical progressions for bat-speed gains without turning BP into injury roulette. The middle third morphs into a full-on pitch-count reckoning: Deven recounts recent tournaments where 10- to 12-year-olds logged 153, 128, even 167 pitches in a single weekend because “there are no rules.” He calls on tournament operators to adopt universal pitch-smart limits and reminds coaches that “plastic rings aren't worth real elbows.”The episode closes on a personal note. With Father's Day fresh in mind, Deven reflects on the mentors who shaped him, celebrates the messy joy of parenting through sport, and signs off with a simple challenge: tell the people you love that you love them—every chance you get.Timestamps00:00 Introduction & housekeeping02:00 Parent email — Youth Camp success story04:24 Why we launched Driveline Youth Camps09:06 Game-theory coaching vs kid development14:16 The “Just Throw Strikes” fallacy18:21 Pro-level approach: bunting, power, and contact23:00 Let hitters hit — pitching-strategy talk30:13 Training for power vs field dimensions34:26 Why 1.6 million kids quit baseball each year40:17 Chasing exit velocity the right way50:12 Equipping players & over-use awareness55:25 Tournament pitch-count horror stories58:39 Plastic rings, real elbows — over-use culture exposed01:04:57 Trophies vs memories — a coach's reality check01:07:35 Father's Day reflection & sign-offLinksDriveline Youth Development Campshttps://www.drivelinebaseball.com/academy-youth-baseball-camps/Start training with Driveline now with Academy Flex:https://www.drivelinebaseball.com/academy-flex/Develop bat speed with our Youth Power Bat for just $99!https://www.drivelinebaseball.com/product/youth-power-trainer/Skills That Scale: The Complete Youth Baseball Training Manual is out now!https://www.drivelinebaseball.com/product/skills-that-scale-training-manual/Train bat speed and barrel accuracy with our Youth Underload Smash bat - just $79!https://www.drivelinebaseball.com/product/youth-underload-smash-bat/⬇️ Host ⬇️Deven Morganhttps://twitter.com/devenmorgan

What makes a Porsche feel unlike any other car on the road? That's the question we explore with automotive author Randy Leffingwell as he joins us to discuss his definitive work, "Porsche 911: Every Model Since 1964." In this fascinating conversation, Randy shares how his lifelong passion for these iconic German sports cars began with his uncle's Porsche Speedster and eventually led to unprecedented access to Porsche's archives, testing facilities, and engineering teams.Randy takes us behind the scenes of Porsche's legendary development process at their Vysok facility, where cars are subjected to punishing tests until components fail—only to be strengthened and tested again. We learn about the infamous "ruttel stroker" track that simulates earthquake-damaged cobblestone streets and features a jump that launches vehicles into the air. This relentless pursuit of perfection helps explain why Porsche's handling and performance characteristics feel so distinctive compared to other manufacturers. The conversation reveals how the controversial decision to create the Cayenne SUV saved both the company and the 911 model during a financial crisis when Porsche was at risk of being sold to competitors like Mercedes or General Motors. Though purists initially balked at the idea of a Porsche SUV, its spectacular success generated the resources needed to continue developing the sports cars that define the brand's heritage. For Porsche enthusiasts and automotive history buffs alike, this episode provides rare insights into the engineering philosophy and business decisions that have shaped one of the world's most respected automotive manufacturers. I have some sad news to share with you today on the podcast. Sadly, my dad passed away on May 22, 2025.   My dad was such a pivotal part of my family. He was an amazing husband to my mom. He was such a loving father and a supportive and involved grandfather. This loss is deep.  It is interesting because your mom and dad are there when you take your first breath. But it is so heartbreaking to be there when they take their last. I am going to be taking some time off to grieve the loss of my dad. I remember when I lost Jeannie back in 2016 and my divorce in 2014, something that really helped me was to read--- read God's Word and read books that pointed me back to God's Word. I need that again this summer. I need time to input and allow myself time to sit in the pain and grieve—take time to process the hard emotions. I want to thank you in advance for giving me space to do that this summer. I don't know how long it will be, but I know it is my best yes. I believe God is going to use that time, so I can pour back into you when I return. I cannot wait to see what God wants me to learn in the midst of the pain. So, I thought today would be very honoring to share one of the episodes where my dad was a guest back in 2020.  I know you are going to learn so much from his wisdom!   My dad's episode back in 2020: With Father's Day just around the corner, I am excited to have my dad, John Brownlee, as a guest on the Depth podcast this week.  I asked him to share some of his words of wisdom and best advice as he is a father to 4 girls and a grandfather to 7 grandchildren. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but I love that my dad shares some of our funny memories and crazy dinner activities as well as encourages other dads to make their kids a priority. I am so thankful that my dad was an intentional father to me and my sisters. I recommend listening to this episode alongside your spouse or if you are a single mom like me, there are still lots parenting nuggets in this episode for you as well!  I believe parenting is the most rewarding and challenging job all at the same time, so I hope this episode encourages you along your parenting journey! I promise you do not want to miss this episode.   My dad was on the podcast again in December 2024- so special to have him on a second time.
