Originally Published May 06,2022. In this episode of "How to Live a Fantastic Life," Dr. Allen Lycka chats with Eileen Smith, a somatic experience practitioner, about overcoming trauma. Eileen explains that trauma isn't just an event but the trapped energy in our bodies when we lose our sense of safety. She emphasizes that healing involves reconnecting with physical sensations to release this energy.   Eileen discusses how trauma can manifest as anxiety, digestive issues, and disconnection. Through somatic therapy, she helps clients gradually move out of survival mode, advocating for a slow, intentional healing process. The episode also touches on the importance of self-care, embracing discomfort, and making conscious choices to enhance life.   Ilene Smith helps people who feel stuck in life, often due to unresolved or hidden trauma. This can show up as issues like addiction, abuse, grief, divorce, or eating disorders. With the challenges of the past two years, many might be struggling more than ever.   As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, Ilene guides others in recognizing and releasing the energy from unresolved trauma, helping them move forward in all areas of life. How often does Biblical fiction go back in time... before time? Not often in my experience, but Jill Eileen Smith's Daughter of Eden takes a bold step to imagine the creation of the angels... of even Michael the Archangel!  Listen in while we chat about Eden, Eve, her children, and the war between those banished from heaven and those who remained to protect those made in God's image.   Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. What Kinds of Lessons Can We Learn from the First People? When Jill Eileen Smith said her book started at the fall--the original fall--instead of in the Garden of Eden, I knew this would be a book I had to read. I mean, come on! If you listen to the audiobook sample, it shares the creation of Michael and his first reaction to seeing the King of Kings! I loved it, and it made me even more eager to read Daughter of Eden. Jill says she wanted to show the internal battle that must have raged within Eve as she regretted the terrible decision to give in to Satan's lies instead of trusting the Lord's goodness and care for her. Can you imagine that lifetime of regret?   But also, Jill talks about how they had to learn to do everything. What plants to grow to create fibers. How to spin those fibers into thread. How to weave that thread into cloth. And they had to do it with everything... pottery, butchering, gardening, medicinal plants perhaps?  There's so much to learn and yes, they had hundreds of years to learn it, but did they? They needed those things immediately! Daughter of Eden by Jill Eileen Smith The first time she opens her eyes, Eve gazes on One whose beauty nearly blinds her, whose breath is in her lungs. Her Creator takes her hand and gives her to one like her and yet different. Together, she and Adam experience pure joy as they explore Eden. But her favorite moments are when the Creator comes to walk with them, day after day. Until everything changes. With one act of disobedience, Eve finds that her world is no longer a friendly place. With remorse in her heart, she must face the unknown future--the births, the deaths, the sacrifices, the loss of the one home she has ever known. Perhaps worst of all is the loss of trust, not only with her Creator but with the man who shares her life. How will they ever survive out of Eden? Bestselling biblical fiction author Jill Eileen Smith imagines the life of the first woman to ever live, unspooling a story of love, loss, and the promise of redemption. Today I'm bringing you a conversation with Jill Eileen Smith about her newest book, The Prince and the Prodigal. The novel focuses on Old Testament Joseph and his brother Judah. Jill and I talked about the story of Joseph (the prince) and Judah (the prodigal), why she chose to focus on Judah, her passion for sharing the truth of the Bible and Jesus, and the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation. Here's a description of The Prince and the Prodigal from the publisher (Revell): In The Prince and the Prodigal, Smith weaves together the lives of two brothers, Joseph and Judah, who overcome jealousy and betrayal in order to obtain reconciliation that only God could bring about. Seventeen-year-old Joseph is the favored son of the patriarch Jacob. His older brothers are deeply resentful of Joseph's status in the family and look for opportunities to get rid of him. When they encounter some slave traders, they take advantage of this opportunity and sell Joseph. Although it appears that their troubles are behind them, they are really just beginning—not only for Joseph but also for his brother Judah. Joseph's early life in Egypt is fraught with accusations and imprisonment. But a twist of fate moves Joseph through the ranks from slave to trusted servant and ultimately to second-in-command behind Pharaoh. Meanwhile, Judah is running from his past and is haunted by the betrayal that changed all of their lives and the grief that has been brought upon their father. When a famine brings the brothers together, they are faced with a stunning role reversal. Now Joseph is the one in charge and Judah and his brothers must beg for mercy. Hatred, pride, and favoritism have cost this family greatly. Will forgiveness or vengeance win the day? Six things you'll learn from this Joys of Binge Reading episode: Jill's long road to publication'No secrets' - except hard work and practiceThe fascination of women's Biblical storiesWhy Jill has focused on Old Testament dramaRich material from the Kings and their many wives Who Jill is reading now Where to find Jill Eileen Smith:  Website: www.jilleileensmith.com Facebook: @JillEileenSmith Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/JillEileenSmith/ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest/JillEileenSmith/ Feedburner: http://feeds.feedburner.com/Journal-JillEileenSmith  Twitter: @JillEileenSmith What follows is a "near as" transcript of our conversation, not word for word but pretty close to it, with links to important mentions. But now, here's Jill.  Jenny Wheeler: Hello there Jill, and welcome to the show. It's great to have you with us. Jill Eileen Smith: Thank you for inviting me. It's really nice to meet you. Introducing author Jill Smith Jenny Wheeler: We're doing this as a special Easter podcast episode, because you've made your career out of telling Bible stories for a contemporary audience, haven't you, and particularly the women of the Bible. How did you get started on that? Jill Eileen Smith - bringing Biblical women alive. Jill Eileen Smith: I actually started writing about the men of the Bible. It began with a Bible study on King David, and I wanted to write a book about his life when the study ended. And I did. I wrote two volumes, but I didn't know how to write back then and after years of rejection and finding out that male characters for a lead in a book don't sell, I was asked by one editor to consider rewriting it from the point of view of Michal. I turned her down, but I didn't know anything about writing at that time. Twenty years later, I had finally written about Michal and Abigail and The Wives of King David, and it sold to Revell. I've been writing about old Testament women ever since, except for a few men. I do have The Heart of a King which is about Solomon, and I have a new one coming out in a year that will be about Joseph and Judah, but most of them are about the women. Jenny Wheeler: For those who perhaps aren't so familiar with the Bible stories, tell us a little of Michal's story, because it is rather a touching one, isn't it? King's daughter who lost everything Jill Eileen Smith: Michal had a rough life. To write her story you have to understand King Saul and David and her brother, Jonathan. I had to study the whole era around them and what was going on in her life, from being a princess with her father a king to married to David. David was not royalty at the time and became a fugitive, and so she wasn't back in his life, there was a separation for a really long time. She lost every family member. She had a rough life, so studying her was pretty fascinating. Michal - King Saul's daughter, Kind David's wife and a sad story - Jill Eileen Smith Jenny Wheeler: Also, King Saul married her off to someone else during the years when David was his enemy, and then she was forced to return to David when he came back, so it was very difficult, wasn't it? Jill Eileen Smith: It was, yes. Jenny Wheeler: Do you enjoy focusing on the women? When I was reading Miriam's Song, which is the most recent one out, I felt that a lot of the women in the Bible had quite a hard road to hoe,

We all eat, but we don't all eat well. How can we do so? In particular, what dietary choices are best for an individual's physical wellness? And how much do individuals' unique characteristics determine what choices are best for them? And what choices are best for the environment? Why are calories and "food miles" overrated as metrics? How can governments help consumers make good food choices, especially if they live in food deserts? I discuss such questions with genetic epidemiologist Tim Spector. Jill's focus has been on Old Testament women of the Bible and, wow, does she have her research work cut out for her! We talk about how to research from multiple sources, and how to fill in the blanks when written history doesn't give you many details. Jill is particularly encouraging when it comes to writing a story "everyone" has already done, like the story of Esther in the Bible. Her latest book is (https://amzn.to/38p7Gmu) , her take on the story of Esther, including some known historical figures of the day. This week’s episode is with the fantastic Jill Eileen Smith. Jill has written a number of Biblical Fiction books as well as one non-fiction work based on stories of women in scripture. Listen. This is one. wise. woman. The way she speaks about the Word of God and its role in her life, and the way she shares insight into the  history of God and His people is just incredible. This conversation is a bit like stepping into an Old Testament master class and it is AWESOME. If you’ve never read the Bible before, or if you’ve never really thought the Old Testament was for you, I hope you’ll give this episode a listen. I think you’ll find some hidden treasure just for you.  When I get the chance to hear men and women, just like Jill, who have studied the Bible indepthly, talk about the people that lived their lives within its pages, and the God who weaves it all together, it makes me so hungry to know more about the Bible. That’s the biggest reason I really enjoy Biblical fiction is because it takes stories I may know or may have never even heard and brings them to life in a way that ignites a sense of curiosity in me to dive deeper into the Word. Her newest book, Star of Persia: Esther’s Story, is the perfect picture of how to do just that.  The book of Esther is such a unique book of the Bible, ripe with details, but absent of one notable detail: the name of God. God’s name is NEVER mentioned throughout this epic tale, but as Beth Moore says “His name is all over it.” Jill does such a beautiful job diving into this familiar tale and bringing history and the activity of God and his people to life! Star of Persia just released this week so be sure and grab a copy! And just a little heads up… Jill’s book and drawing our eyes to the story of Esther is PERFECTLY timed as the celebration that is found at the end of the story, Purim, is just around the corner! We have something really special planned to celebrate and dive in to this story a little bit deeper, so be sure you’re subscribed and following along!  Find ways to get Jill’s book, listen to the conversation and subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts at the link in bio! Wedding Wisdom Podcast w/ Doug Winters

In this podcast, Episode 17, we travel up a bit to Bridgewater, CT and the home of the lovely and expert event planner Eileen Smith. Our insightful conversation focused on everything having to do with her true specialty….outdoor and tent weddings as opposed to using a more traditional venue.  She talks about some of the best experiences one can have at an outdoor event.  The best part? As we agreed, when you’re celebrating outside, quite literally, the sky’s the limit.  Eileen even tells how she was able to design an elaborate “sub-floored” tent on a “literal ski-slope” to accommodate one of her clients. Anyone thinking about a “tent” wedding, should savor every delicious nugget of advice Eileen offers after a decade of experience planning all kinds of “al fresco” parties in the great outdoors.  And as Spring becomes official today, the timing couldn’t be any better.  Join us for ideas, inspiration and lots of details.
