Hour 4 in full
Today on the podcast, Erica Hurt and David Dye join Bradley to discuss powerful phrases for dealing with workplace conflict and their new book. As owners, it's important to understand that workplace conflict is a growing problem—everywhere. The workforce has been through unprecedented change in the last few years—for better and worse. We've heard all about employee stress, disengagement, quiet quitting, and mass resignations. Has all the rapid change led to more conflict in the workplace? Is conflict wearing us all down? At what cost?Workplace culture and communication experts, Karin Hurt and David Dye of Let's Grow Leaders, surveyed 5000+ full-time workers in over 45 countries and in all 50 United States. It turns out conflict is becoming more of an issue everywhere you go. 70% of participants report the same or more conflict over the last few years.Karin and David's latest book, “Powerful Phrases for Dealing With Workplace Conflict: What to Say Next to Destress the Workday, Build Collaboration, and Calm Difficult Customers” is an essential guide to master any workplace conflict with confidence and ease —for less drama and better outcomes at work.In many workplaces today, conflict is an escalating issue. The shift to remote work and hybrid teams has left many people longing for deeper human connection. On top of this, add a younger generation clamoring for more feedback and impatient for change, steady advances in technology that can feel threatening to job security, or people reexamining priorities and quietly quitting. Take the increase in anxiety, stress, and depression—mix in the loss of human relationships—and you get less tolerance and understanding. Ultimately, this all leads to more, and more destructive, workplace conflict.Pre-Order your copy of their book at https://letsgrowleaders.com/conflict-phrases-book/ Thanks to our sponsors:Club Capital provides monthly accounting, tax, and CFO services for insurance agency owners. "Is this a sales call"?☎️ If you're making outbound sales calls, you've no doubt heard this from your prospects at one point or another. It can often be a really curly one to answer for a lot of people. The first thing you think of is…Do you lie or tell the truth? You might be tempted to try and rationalise a lie... If you're a B2B seller, you can't actually take their money on the phone, so it's not like you can sell them something. So you might be tempted to say ‘No' I can't sell you anything it's not a sales call.…but then you'd be kind of lying, wouldn't you? Because it is a sales call, really isn't it? It's a call about starting the sales process. – so yeah, it's a sales call. What would likely happen if you said – “Well yeah it's a sales call”?They're just going to say – “Get off the phone”, …Or “I don't take cold calls and hang up.Like many things in sales the real answer is 'it depends'Get my run down on what you could do.Catch all versions of me here.https://linktr.ee/markmcinnes LinkedIn profileVIP sales mailerTactical Pipeline GrowthBOSS Podcast1 on 1 Consulting

Larry and Sarah Nannery didn't know that Sarah was autistic when they first met and fell in love. They knew their brains worked differently and sometimes that was frustrating, but very often it was also incredibly interesting. They had their miscommunications, but they made figured them out. And then after about seven years of marriage Sarah got a formal diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. I found Larry and Sarah through their book, What to Say Next, where they break down how they communicate as a Neurodiverse couple. This is a love story about learning how your partner's brain works, how every single person's brain is different and unique, and there are lessons in here for all of us. Today I talked to Sarah and Larry Nannery about their new book What to Say Next: Successful Communication in Work, Life, and Love with Autism Spectrum Disorder (Tiller Press, 2021). What's it like to live a life where there's a time delay as you process what others are saying, what it might mean, and how you feel in response? Sarah Nannery knows that experience intimately, gaining in ability over the years to navigate everything from office politics to her personal life more adeptly given her ASD Brain. As a “neurotypical brain” person, her husband Larry Nannery adds his “two-cents” perspective here in terms of observing and helping Sarah and himself navigate their experiences together. Highlights of this conversation include: what internalization means to Sarah in coping with being “bottled up inside” more than perhaps most people, and how one makes a “conversational sandwich” as a way of handling small talk when it looms large as a challenge. Sarah Nannery is the director of development for Autism Initiatives at Drexel University. Larry Nannery is a technology consultant who focuses on organizational change and life-coaching. Dan Hill, PhD, is the author of nine books and leads Sensory Logic, Inc. (https://www.sensorylogic.com). His new book is Blah, Blah, Blah: A Snarky Guide to Office Lingo. I'm pretty sure that this has happened to all of us. We're standing in front of an audience giving a speech and we've just said something clever or meaningful. We pause and get ready to go on to our next point when all of sudden we realize that we have absolutely no idea what we want to say next. This is probably the worst possible feeling that a speaker can have. What can we do now to save the situation? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jim-anderson1/support
During this episode, Sarah and Larry Nannery share the lessons they have learned during their 10 year Neurodiverse Love relationship. Their motto is "Better Together" and it is clear that they personify this motto. Sarah sought a diagnosis after she became a parent and realized that managing all of her new responsibilities was more then she was prepared for, and at 31 she received a formal ASD diagnosis. She has now taken some of the lessons she has learned on her journey and partnered with Larry to write "What to Say--Successful Communication in Work, Life, and Love with Autism Spectrum Disorder". Throughout their relationship, both Sarah and Larry have worked hard to become a better version of themselves, individually and as a couple,. After hearing a piece of their story, it is clear that that may be one of the most important factors in a successful neurodiverse relationship. They both share great insight about the ways in which they address their social and emotional differences, as well as the ways in which they think about and process their family life and their relationship. Larry shared how he believes that we are all different in some way and we should focus on our unique traits and strengths, so that we can learn who we are and how those traits are presenting in all the relationships we are in. In addition, we had a great discussion about parenting and family life and how important self-care, structure and knowing what the plan is are for Sarah. Several things that were said during the podcast showed the genuine compassion, love and respect that Sarah and Larry have for each other. Sarah shared that when she is on emotional or sensory overload she knows that she can come home and "Larry will take care of her" and those words were such a wonderful expression of the trust and safety that their relationship provides. In addition, when Sarah was talking about the challenges of parenting, Larry stopped and said "Sarah you are a wonderful mother" and although we couldn't see Sarah's face, she probably had a big smile when he said that. This is a part of what makes their neurodiverse love so special. Sarah and Larry share the way in which Neurodiverse Love can thrive and how each partner in the relationship can feel safe to be themselves and be supported and understood. We know you will really enjoy meeting Sarah and Larry:-) You can follow Sarah on Instagram or Twitter @sarahnannery or you can check out her website at sarahnannery.com We also hope you will buy their new book. It provides excellent insight and strategies on how to communicate effectively in all types of relationships. When Sarah Nannery got her first job at a small nonprofit, she thought she knew exactly what it would take to advance. But soon she realized that even with hard work and conscientiousness, she was missing key meanings and messages embedded in her colleagues' everyday requests, feedback, and praise. She had long realized her brain operated differently than others, but now she knew for sure: she had Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). With help from her neurotypical partner--now husband--Larry, mostly in frantic IM chats, Sarah rose to Director of Development at one of the world's largest nonprofits. Together they have tackled challenges in how Sarah navigates personal and professional relationships, how they navigate marriage and parenthood, all of which are differently challenging for someone with ASD. But she wonders, at times, how life would be different if she'd had to figure it all out herself. So, in What to Say Next, she offers advice, empathy, and straightforward strategies from her own tool-kit--not only for others who see the world differently, but for their families, partners and colleagues. In What to Say Next: Successful Communication in Work, Life, and Love—with Autism Spectrum Disorder (Simon and Schuster, 2021), Sarah breaks down everyday situations--the chat in the break room, the last-minute meeting, the unexpected run-in--in granular detail, explaining not only how to understand the goals of others, but also how to frame your own. Larry adds his thoughts from a neurotypical perspective, sharing what was going on in his brain and how he learned to listen and enlighten, while supporting and maintaining Sarah's voice. At a time when more and more people are being diagnosed with ASD--especially women and girls--this book tells important truths about what it takes to make it in a neurotypical world, and still be true to yourself. Their first event was coming up and though they were practicing their talk ahead of the big day, they were concerned about this happening... On the day itself, as they are delivering their talk. We'd love to shape our circles with real conversations all the time. We'll experience moments like that all along the way, but to live there it takes trust, and to shape your circle with trust you need conversational consistency.
Persistence is to success as excuses are to failure. Never, never give up - there is always a way. Jim Rohn said, “If you want something, you will find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse.” And he should know. A college drop-out, and in a rut, in debt and unable to see his way out by his mid-twenties, Jim set out to achieve more. And he did. His persistence paid off and by age 31, he was a millionaire. If you want more, you WILL find a way, because there always IS a way. With persistence and consistent action, you will make it happen. If you don't believe me, keep listening. Did you know that Thomas Edison had over 10,000 failed attempts to create the light bulb before he was successful? His persistence was as valuable as his invention. 10,000 failed attempts and look what he created! Even if you're not out to change the world, what could you create with an unresolved persistence? Allyson Felix made it to the Olympics in just over one year. With an intense training schedule of five to six hours per day, her persistence paid off. By the end of her training season in 2003, she had broken many records, including one set by Olympic Gold Medalist, Marion Jones. At the 2004 Olympics, she won the Silver Medal by running a 22.18 in the 200-meter race. Amazingly, she did all of this while being a high-school senior and a freshman college student. Persistence always pays off - and sometimes big time! It's a known fact that more business deals are inked when one of the parties is persistent. Now, being persistent is not the same as being pushy; rather, it is voicing your ideal fit and expertise to someone that may not be aware of the benefits they will receive working with you. They will appreciate your persistence and the benefits - but you have to make them known. You've probably heard of Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen, and their best-selling book series, Chicken Soup for the Soul. Did you know they marketed the original books to over 130 publishers, over a two-year period before a struggling publisher agreed to publish it. That's two years of phone calls, foot-peddling and persistence that started a best-selling book series. The authors knew the value of the book, it came down to making it known to the right publisher. Once the publisher saw the value, they knew what the benefits would be. Their first book went on to sell 8 million copies in 39 languages. And to date, the series has sold more than 100 million copies in over 45 languages. At one point, JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter book series was on welfare and so broke that she wrote her story on pub napkins. She could have easily given up on writing, but she was persistent in her passion. She finished the first Harry Potter novel, found a literary agent and went to work marketing her book. Today, she is one of the wealthiest women in the world, with a net worth of about $1 billion dollars. There are thousands of examples of ordinary people achieving extraordinary goals; these are just a few examples of how persistence paid off. Achieving your goals requires you to take consistent action, be persistent, and maintain a resolve to simply not give up. Let's explore 5 steps you can take today, to get you closer to achieving your goals. 1. Take Measurable Actions - Every Day! Persistence takes action. Take at least 3 actions every day that support goal achievement. If you need funding for your venture, then get on the phone and find an investor. If you want to lose weight, then eat well and exercise. If you want a new job, then take steps to make yourself a prime job candidate for the right company. Consistent action and persistence pays off. 2. Keep Showing Up If you believe in what you're doing, just keep showing up. You never know when your break-through opportunity will appear, so bring your best to every situation. When the right opportunity appears, you'll be ready! 3. Remain Objective About Your Obstacles Don't get emotional about the obstacles in front of you. Remember, there is always a way, and your success is inevitable. You just have to figure out how to move over, around or under your challenges. 4. Learn to Say “Next!” Don't take rejections personally; they are nothing more than the natural process of weeding out the sub-prime opportunities. You're on the road to success and want to put your energies toward something that will be ideal for all parties involved - including you. The right opportunity will be met with an enthusiastic “Yes"! 5. Track Your Progress It's easier to be persistent when you can see how far you've come. Track your progress and achievements so you can see how much closer you're getting with every step forward. You want to know what specific activities you are doing to get the results you are getting or not getting. Tracking your daily activity will help you know this so you can course correct more easily, if you need to, and achieve your goals on an accelerated pace. Check out my free webinars to see samples of what this might look like for you, if you don't already have something (https://www.accountabilitycoach.com/free-articles/free-webinars/). If you don't currently have a way to track your progress with referrals and opportunities, download the free referral tracking spreadsheet so you can easily tell where everyone is in your pipeline. Get the sample tracking by going to https://www.accountabilitycoach.com/referral-tracking-workbook/. The road to success isn't always easy - but it isn't always hard. There may be times when you have to talk yourself through periods of self-doubt, and there will definitely be times when you defy the odds. Never, never give up because there is always a way to achieve your goals and experience the life you truly desire. Kevin Bruce, Financial Advisor, shared this story about persistence paying off for him. “An example that persistence pays off… I sent a book to a friend of a client on February 1. I have called them regularly and never received any feedback, return phone call, etc. Yesterday, on their 40+ call (I stopped counting), I received a very warm answer from the wife, scheduled the Phone Consultation to talk about the book I sent them for August 22 (which was 3 years after I sent the book), and got a call from the husband a few minutes later excited with some questions. Never would've expected it, but glad I kept calling!” Every action of every day between now and your goal achievement counts. Take action, bring your best, find solutions to your obstacles, and say “Next!” to your rejections. Feel good about how far you've come and be persistent until you achieve your goals! B.C. FORBES, Founder of Forbes Magazine, said: “History has demonstrated that the most notable winners usually encountered heartbreaking obstacles before they triumphed. They won because they refused to become discouraged by their defeats.” I hope you take the same approach. And he did. Persistence is to success as excuses are to failure. Never, never give up - there is always a way. Jim Rohn said, “If you want something, you will find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.” And he should know. Even if you’re not out to change the world, what could you create with an unresolved persistence? You’ve probably heard of Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen, and their best-selling book series, Chicken Soup for the Soul. Let’s explore 5 steps you can take today, to get you closer to achieving your goals. 2. Keep Showing Up If you believe in what you’re doing, just keep showing up. You never know when your break-through opportunity will appear, so bring your best to every situation. When the right opportunity appears, you’ll be ready! 3. Remain Objective About Your Obstacles Don’t get emotional about the obstacles in front of you. Remember, there is always a way, and your success is inevitable. You just have to figure out how to move over, around or under your challenges. 4. Learn to Say “Next!” Don’t take rejections personally; they are nothing more than the natural process of weeding out the sub-prime opportunities. You’re on the road to success and want to put your energies toward something that will be ideal for all parties involved - including you. The right opportunity will be met with an enthusiastic “Yes"! 5. Track Your Progress It’s easier to be persistent when you can see how far you’ve come. Track your progress and achievements so you can see how much closer you’re getting with every step forward. You want to know what specific activities you are doing to get the results you are getting or not getting. Tracking your daily activity will help you know this so you can course correct more easily, if you need to, and achieve your goals on an accelerated pace. Check out my free webinars to see samples of what this might look like for you, if you don’t already have something (https://www.accountabilitycoach.com/free-articles/free-webinars/). If you don’t currently have a way to track your progress with referrals and opportunities, download the free referral tracking spreadsheet so you can easily tell where everyone is in your pipeline. Get the sample tracking by going to https://www.accountabilitycoach.com/referral-tracking-workbook/. The road to success isn’t always easy - but it isn’t always hard. Feel good about how far you’ve come and be persistent until you achieve your goals! B.C. FORBES, Founder of Forbes Magazine, said: “History has demonstrated that the most notable winners usually encountered heartbreaking obstacles before they triumphed. They won because they refused to become discouraged by their defeats.” I hope you take the same approach. One of the biggest moments that changed my perspective on where I was taking my career was this mindset. Often we ask what we've done in the last year. But, what do you want to say you've accomplished? As leaders we are always trying to grow, but the grind of daily tasks can get in our way to thinking about the future. Don't just use your email as a todo list, use this weekend to think about 2020. Close your eyes and imagine you're with several of your closest friends, family and coworkers at Thanksgiving next year. Someone asks you, "What was your proudest accomplishment in 2020?" What do you say? When God gives vision, and direction, and reveals precious things to us, what we say next could determine the course of our lives. By Pastor Shawn Lyons.
With persistence and consistent action you will make it happen. Here are 5 steps you can take today, to get you closer to achieving your goals. 1. Take Measurable Actions - Every Day! Persistence takes action. Take at least 3 actions every day that support goal achievement. If you need funding for your venture, then get on the phone and find an investor. If you want to lose weight, then eat well and exercise. The road to success isn't always easy - but it isn't always hard. There may be times when you have to talk yourself through periods of self-doubt, and there will definitely be times when you defy the odds. Never, never give up because there is always a way to achieve your goals and experience the life you truly desire. Every action of every day between now and your goal achievement counts. Take action, bring your best, find solutions to your obstacles, and say “Next!” to your rejections. Feel good about how far you've come and be persistent until you achieve your goals! If you do get value from these Podcasts, please take a minute to leave me a short review. It is very much appreciated. Biggest Takeaways: David Drucker and Kit Lowell are two very distinct, well-developed characters Julie Buxbaum’s portrayal of a teen boy with autism is realistic and, at times, gut-wrenching Her portrayal of a grieving teen girl is also authentic and compelling The involvement and advocacy of the parents in the book is inspiring and affirming The characters’ relationships with their parents is complex and believable – from Kit facing her mother’s flaws, to David’s mother sitting next to him and rocking alongside him as he processed a trauma There are stand-up-and-cheer moments and crying moments Ish Girl Notes: After the bleakness of watching all thirteen episodes of 13 Reasons Why for Episode 19, this book was a welcome counterbalance. It’s optimism, the growth of the characters, the relationship that develops between Kit and David, the support that both characters receive from adults – these were all positive themes in the book. Biggest Takeaways: 13 Reasons Why, a popular Netflix series, resonates deeply with today’s teens. The issues it tackles (listed below) are portrayed with a gritty, visceral realism that is potentially triggering for some viewers. Wednesday 9th May 2018. TESLA ADDS NEW INTERIOR FINISH OPTION TO S & X For those buying a new Model S or Model X, and you'd be forgiven for thinking Tesla only make a Model 3 if you're reading the headlines, there are some tweaks showing up in the configurator. CNET reports: "A new update that applies to every Model S and X interior is the addition of a darker finish on interior accent trim pieces. There's also a new "Oak Décor" finish available in conjunction with the "Cream Premium" interior. The automaker told Electrek that the interior changes will be implemented starting today, and vehicles currently in the preproduction process will be included in the shift." Electrek adds: "the Cream Premium and Black textile option (last two) are now being made unavailable for the Model S and Model X performance models." TESLA MODEL X SWEEPS AAA’S TOP GREEN VEHICLE AWARDS FOR 2018 Meanwhile, staying with those Teslas, AAA’s Top Green Vehicle Awards for 2018 has gone to the Model X in three categories. Teslarati report: "The all-electric SUV won the awards for Best Overall Green Car, Best Green Car Over $50,000, and Best Green SUV/Minivan. The Tesla Model S 75D earned AAA’s award for Best Large Car." MODEL 3 NOW AUTO-DIMS And not to leave out the baby brother Model 3, there's a new firmware update to look out for. It's v8.1 and - round of applause - it's auto dimming lights. The option on the screen reads OFF, PARKING, ON or AUTO and then beneath that, AUTO HIGH BEAM. So it will adjust the lights according to its surroundings and ensure you don't dazzle oncoming drivers. There's also a toggle button on the screen to shift from streaming, to radio, to phone. Add that to the heated seats recently activated, and Automatic Emergency Braking. MERCEDES EQC SPOTTED "The Mercedes-Benz EQ C has been caught waiting at a stoplight, which provided a great view of the upcoming electric crossover" according to an article by Motor 1. It comes from a minute long video posted on Youtube, and the car is in full camo. I must admit I did a double take because I would expect the SUV style of electric car to follow a common design language of having a short stubby front, or cab-forward as Jaguar’s design head honcho Ian Callum calls it, to maximise cabin space. However the shots which are supposed to be the EQC look make it look like a really long bonnet, or hood. AUDI TARGETS 800,000 EV SALES BY 2025 As major car makers look to the next 5 to 7 years, for building platforms and supply chains, Audi wants to sell 800,000 full electrics and hybrids per year, by 2025. Reuters say: "Audi declined to provide details about how many fully battery electric, and how many hybrid cars it will sell by 2025. Last year, it sold about 16,000 semi-electric vehicles and it still lacks a fully electric model in its lineup. The Ingolstadt, Germany-based brand, which delivered 1.88 million cars globally in 2017 currently offers three plug-in hybrid vehicles. In August, Audi will launch the e-tron sport utility vehicle, its first all-electric model." JAGUAR TO SUPPLY 200 ELECTRIC VEHICLES FOR CHAUFFEUR SERVICE AT HEATHROW AIRPORT 200 chauffeur-driven Jaguar I-PACE's will ferry passengers to and from the airport and, in the process, instantly create the largest chauffeur-driven fleet of electric vehicles in the UK. Heathrow already has one of the largest corporate electric vehicle fleets in the UK, and the highest density of charging infrastructure in Europe. HIGH POWER CHARGING IN ALL FORMS WITH PROTERRA Maker of buses Proterra is getting in on the act of fast charging, with new solutions compliant with the latest standards up to 500kW, all buses using the CCS plug for charging. Some of the buses here in the UK use overhead charging too, in this case I think Proterra are talking about overhead conductive charging. 1 IN 5 AMERICANS SAY THEY'LL BUY AN ELECTRIC CAR "One in five Americans say they are likely to buy an electric car for their next new vehicle, according to a survey from AAA. That's up from 15% who said they were likely to buy an electric car last year." say CNN. The biggest reasons given were environment, then lower costs, and access to carpool lanes. And that's interesting because there was a survey earlier this year which surveyed existing EV drivers, and the Environment came further down the list of reasons they were driving them, with costs and performance at the top of the list. ELECTRIC HIGHWAY FOR ITALY Italy is making a shift towards electrification, and the power company ENEL plans on installing 4,000 charging points across the country by 2022, 1,200 of which will be fast chargers. From Milan in the North down to Rome, drivers have chargers every 60mins of driving. Alberto Piglia, head of Enel's e-mobility unit, explained to CNN's Supercharged. "We know electric users like myself are mainly urban users, but we also want to move around for the weekends or travel around, so we've started to build infrastructure all around the country. Since last September people can go from Rome to Milan because we installed 30 charging points around the motorway. But we haven't stopped there because we are continuing to put infrastructure (so that) people are able to move around Italy" CNN continue: "Enel is investing between €100 million ($122 million) and €300 million ($366 million) in the project" MARGOT ROBBIE IN NISSAN FILM And finally the Aussie actress Margot Robbie is the star of a new film for Nissan and the LEAF. Nissan said "[Margot] has composed an open letter to encourage people to make more sustainable energy choices. Margot, who performed the surfing sequence herself, is seen enjoying the early morning waves as she talks of creating a “better world for ourselves and everyone who comes after us”. Talking about the film, Margot said: “I hope I can play a small role in inspiring people across the globe to explore alternative forms of energy and make the switch to drive a better future for everyone. The point is, we can all make a difference and we don’t need to wait for others to do it for us.” Gareth Dunsmore, Electric Vehicle Director, Nissan Europe said: “Our LEAF and e-NV200 models are not only cleaner drives, they become mobile energy units too – the used batteries from these vehicles are put to good use as part of our xStorage energy storage solution which provides power to homes and even football stadiums across the world.” I’d love to spread the word about electric cars so, if you can, share this somebody who might be interested.
