Researchers from MTU's Sustainable Infrastructure Research and Innovation Group (SIRIG) will take part in a groundbreaking, multi-million euro project that aims to reduce dependency on fossil-based fertiliser imports through the increased use of Recycling Derived Fertilisers (RDFs). The ReNu2Cycle project will examine impacts on availability, ecological footprint, supply chain and price stability via the use of recycled Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium fertiliser from municipal, industrial, agricultural, food, business waste and other agricultural sources. The project is funded through the Interreg North-West Europe programme with a total project value of €4.9 million, with €3.0 million sourced from the European Regional Development Fund. MTU's role in this ambitious project encompasses stakeholder and sustainability engagement, developing a comprehensive life cycle assessment, and creating an inventory of recycling-derived fertilisers, as well as an array of other research activities in collaboration with ReNu2Cycle's project partners. This will build on the achievements of the ReNu2Farm project (2017 to 2023), which provided basic & regional quantified fertiliser demand research. The project will look to adapt regional best practices for North West Europe (NWE) through the innovative use of living lab concepts across all aspects of the project's research, ensuring long-term co-innovation & implementation support will be stimulated and encouraged. Future RDF use will be maximised by creating innovative fertiliser blends & business solutions for producers' portfolios, including sustainability assessment. RDFs will be blended, prototyped & demonstrated on farms within the project's regions using the Living Lab methodology to assess their suitability for NWE-wide adoption by farmers. All results will be capitalised in one transregional nutrient supply-demand strategy and regional action plans to empower individuals, regions, and countries to grow the bioeconomy and maximise the use of recycled fertilisers. Resource owners, fertiliser producers, traders & farming communities will benefit from this strategy and the latest EU policies allow a harmonised RDF market trade in NWE, contributing further to NWE food supply security. Within Ireland, Munster Technological University is joined by South East Technological University, University of Limerick and Teagasc along with project partners from across the NWE region within the education, research and governance sectors. Dr Niamh Power, who is leading ReNu2Cycle's research for Munster Technological University, said, "With more focus than ever on sustainable agriculture, recycling derived fertilisers can play their part in reducing the impact of the farming sector while contributing to food security. RDFs are the future."

This includes Cleveland, where a repeated call for a ceasefire was won in March. However, the market has found a genuine equilibrium - a price level where everyone seems happy.Looking to the refinery margin, Naphtha showed significant strength with the MOPJ crack for April exceeding -$5/bbl, while Mar/Apr in the NWE region remained robust at $20/mt. Gasnaphs saw a rise from $185 to $195/mt for April, which drew bids at the relatively cheaper levels. EBOB experienced a $2/bbl rally this week, returning to strength.The key global macro movers this week are gold and the S&P 500, which continue to make all-time highs. We should also be watching for a stronger US dollar - as European and UK data continue to weaken, while the U.S. economy remains resilient.In our "Googling Oil" segment, Greg, James and Vincent discuss further Ukraine attacks on Russian oil infrastructure ahead of Russia's presidential election this weekend. And East Liverpool nearby is home to a hazardous waste incinerator with a past dotted with lawsuits and air quality violations--and just last month was slated to burn soil contaminated by the derailment.rnrnWe now know that very train made its way through Cleveland and other major cities and communities that are also facing their own challenges with environmental hazards. As the nation begins to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, we're learning that the availability of child care, decisions regarding when to safely re-open schools, and the broader workforce are inextricably connected.rnrnWhile child care professionals were initially lauded as essential employees at the start of the pandemic, their prioritization declined as time passed. Statewide lockdowns, the closing of schools and in-person learning, and the dramatic increase in the number of parents working from home or not working at all resulted in the shuttering of many child care centers, some permanently. It is estimated that up to 40 percent of child care centers will never reopen after the pandemic subsides.rnrnThis situation has and will continue to disproportionately affect women. With schools closed and limited options for safe and affordable child care available, women have dropped out of the workforce. According to the National Women's Law Center, women have accounted for 55 percent of the net 9.8 million jobs lost since February 2020. The lack of high-quality, affordable early care and education has been a barrier to women's employment and advancement for decades. Now, if current trends are left unaddressed, we risk exacerbating existing inequalities and reversing decades of progress toward the creation of an inclusive economy for women and people of color.rnrnWe're at a critical point in our state - and our nation's - history. Touted by everyone from Tony Robbins to Oprah as being a necessary part of a high-functioning life, setting an intention and then doing what it takes to reach it is a necessary skill that everyone believes is important. But how many of us actually set goals that take us where we want to go and then arrive there?nnOne study says that as few as eight percent of people set goals that they later achieve. The study focused on New Year's resolutions, but it nevertheless paints a shocking picture of how we as a society tend to flippantly set goals without ever having a true intention of fulfilling those dreams and plans. nnSo, what did the elite eight percent do to set themselves apart from their peers? nn1. They Began with The Big Picture in MindnnPeople that consistently achieve their goals spend time considering what steps are necessary to get across the finish line. That means looking at all the little, tedious steps (https://www.wendaful.com/2017/12/breaking-down-goals/) needed to get from A to Z and then plotting those steps – like a graph – across the timeline they have set up. They literally eliminated all of the guesswork, and in doing so they removed a majority of the barriers to success.nn2. They Got Hyper-SpecificnnSetting a vague goal is a sure-fire way to kill your progress before it even begins. The less specific we are when setting a goal, the more wiggle room we give our subconscious self later on when we are running low on discipline and mental toughness. Instead of saying, “I want to increase revenue this year” say “In the first quarter of 2021 I will increase revenue by 12% by running targeted social media ads.” The difference in these two statements is that one is action focused and the other is more of a general statement. One provides a clear plan, and the other is left open for a bland future interpretation of success.nn3. They Surrounded Themselves with Unwavering Support nnWe were created for community. We crave connection. It is no surprise, then, that statistically those in the study that surrounded themselves with accountability were so much more likely to succeed. When you have people in your corner cheering you on, you will be able to find the strength to push on, even when you feel tired and discouraged.nn4. They Used External Stimuli to Boost Their FocusnnThis is an interesting principle, but one that merits exploration. We as humans are visual, auditory creatures that depend on our senses to get us through the day. From vision boards to company slogans plastered across a wall, we like to be reminded of our purpose and intentions. It's like a rallying cry at a football game, or a benediction offered up before a trying task. We are what we repeatedly remind ourselves of and surround ourselves with. There is a reason top athletes are taught to visualize success as part of mental toughness programs. Doing so has been proven to eliminate distractions and increase the probability of a successful outcome.nn5. They Refused to MultitasknnWe are truly better when we focus on one thing at a time. Sure, we may not always fail when we multitask, but we also aren't overly efficient, either. When it comes to effective goal setting, you can set yourself up for success by carving out time each day to focus only on the activities to achieve your goal. Focus is a learned response, so if we want to achieve the professional, personal and social goals we imagine, we have to first learn how to focus on what we want.nnWe now live in a frenetic, activity-filled, multi-tasking, instant gratification society, so it is easy to get lost in the distractions that bombard us from every angle. nnHow many times have you found yourself on the phone talking to a client, while reading your emails, hitting the “Reply” button and then typing out a response? Where is your focus while you are completing a number of individual tasks at the same time?nnFocus requires that we learn to differentiate between the “urgent” and the “important” tasks. Urgent tasks are distractions that cause us, subconsciously, to put off or delay the important projects. And it's the important tasks that lead us to our objectives and goals.nnResponding to urgent emails, answering the phone, or checking your text messages can all be categorized as urgent tasks. Sample Script for a Financial Advisor - “You may have seen the email l sent with my thoughts about how the Coronavirus events could impact your money. The purpose of my call is to see how you're feeling and answer any questions you may have.” Listen with empathy. Be prepared to respond to market, economy, and Coronavirus questions. Ask follow-up questions and listen with empathy. If the 'door opens' to have another phone conversation or a face-to-face meeting that may lead to being of service and doing more business, step through it. If not, feel good about being of service to your clients. Well done.nn2.tCALL every prospect, friend, and family member in your database to have the same conversation. This means that you sent the same message your clients received to your prospects, friends, and family members. To clients, you will appear reliable, dependable, capable, and steady. To your employees, you will appear congruous and constant. Consistency makes up a huge part of what causes a business to be successful, and achieving consistency will bring you a step closer to realizing this success on your own terms. nnWe are going to explore 4 tips that can help you to become even more consistent each and every day. Some of these tips might seem like no-brainers; however, following them faithfully can have a dramatic impact on the outcome of any project that you might be working on, be it large or small. nn1… Create and Execute a Game PlannHaving a set plan is absolutely essential to staying consistent. Without a firmly established success road map, you could very easily veer off course. This could cause variation in any part of your business, even if you are trying as hard as you can to avoid it. In truth, it is really hard to stay focused and regular when you do not have a plan to work from that can help you realize how to get to where you ultimately want to be. To help you consistently execute your plan, you need to make sure you utilize your calendar, so you can stay focused on exactly what needs to be done every day.nnDoes your business have policies and procedures for all of its work-related tasks? Do your employees have access to these procedures? How do you know that your employees have this information, and it is accurate? The failure to have a plan in place is a common-enough occurrence among businesses, but you would be amazed at how many businesses forget about putting together a plan for informing everyone involved, as keeping such information current is important! nn2… Encourage Open CommunicationnHave you ever had a team member who asked you a lot of questions or the same questions over and over? Believe it or not, some people naturally get aggravated when they are asked questions, even if they pertain to the important aspects of running the business. But unless this habit is broken and overcome, this kind of communications breakdown could result in setbacks that will hurt you and your company's success. nnIf you often find yourself annoyed when asked for answers that you feel should be common knowledge, then you really need to take a second look at the situation. Try to be open to any questions that make their way to your ears, and make sure that everyone else, whether they are directly involved or not, knows the answer as well. This is a great time to ensure that the answer to questions is being recorded in a procedures manual that everyone has access to so you don't need to repeat it in the future. Dealing with the disruption is one thing, getting back on track can be another.nnHere we go with the 4 tips for sticking to your goals and getting back on track. nnTip #1: Focus on the Reward - Not the WorknWise sages advise us to “be in the moment,” but let's face it - you don't always feel like running that last mile. You're human; sometimes you lose your motivation in the middle of having to “do the work.”nnIf you're losing your motivation, switch your focus on the reward. Focus on the good feelings of having accomplished your goal and how much easier it will be the next time because you will have broken through another limiting belief.nn“We only learn our limits by going beyond them.” ~UnknownnnTip #2: The Have-To's Sometimes Turn into the Want-To'snThe work involved with achieving goals can feel like a “have-to” in the beginning, but they often turn into a “want-to” by the end of the process. They become a positive habit - a healthy way of being - while the work part eventually melts away.nnThis happens because it's not always about the end result - it's about the person you become as a result of the process.nnWhen you learn a new way of living - a way of living that better represents and supports your true potential - things that used to be a “have-to” transform into a “want-to.”nn“Conquer your bad habits or they will conquer you.” ~Charles A. JaffennTip #3: It's Who You Become in the ProcessnThe person you woke up as today may not be the same person you wake up as tomorrow - or the day after that - or next week - or ten years from now.nnWhile it's impossible to predict exactly who you'll be in the future, it's a safe bet that you will not be the exact same person. nnLife is a process of constant change and transformation. Each day we learn more about ourselves, which results in greater clarity of our true desires. The path between where we are and where we want to be becomes more clear and focused, creating a deep and focused desire to see the process through. nnSetting goals - and the work involved with achieving them - is not so much about the end result, as much as a deep, and often indefinable, desire to fulfill our greatest potential. To grow - to expand - to become all that we can be.nnThe person you end up becoming by the end of a journey (the process of goal setting and achieving is most definitely a journey!) is not the same person who started the journey. Achieving goals teaches you that you had what it took to achieve something you maybe weren't sure you could, in the beginning.nnThe process teaches you that you had more than you thought: more guts, more stamina, more determination, more commitment, more skill. The process shifts your perceptions, increases your self-esteem, confidence, and uplevels your mindset - all of which changes how you feel about the ‘work.'nn“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important asnwhat you become by achieving your goals." ~Zig ZiglarnnTip #4: Do You Want To Start Over Again?nWhen you realize that each decision could carry a consequence, you can begin to make better decisions. If you spend energy and time doing the work, it doesn't take too much “undoing” or “starting again” before you discover you do not want to do something twice or three times if you only have to do it once.nnWe see this time and time again in people who unconsciously (sometimes consciously) sabotage their hard work.
