In this episode, we speak with Anders Forslund, Co-founder and CEO of Heart Aerospace, who shares the radical transformation his electric aircraft company has undergone in the past year — relocating from Sweden to Los Angeles and fundamentally changing how aerospace companies operate in the 21st century.Forslund discusses:Why Heart moved its operations to the US despite strong European roots, driven by the need to access customers, suppliers, and investors in the world's largest aerospace market. How the industry's talent crisis stems from decades without clean sheet aircraft development, and why bringing in top performers from SpaceX, Tesla, and other mission-driven technology companies is essential for attracting the right talent. Why all aerospace companies are actually software companies, given that most aircraft delays and crashes today stem from software issues rather than structural failures, and how this demands in-house control of software. Why companies should actively take on uncertainty rather than minimise it, viewing adaptability as more crucial than strength or intelligence in today's rapidly changing world. How the loss of regional connectivity serves as the “canary in the coal mine” for broader industry problems, and why this represents the natural entry point for introducing new technology and training the next generation of aerospace talent.Forslund also reveals his seven-rule framework for modern aerospace product development and explains why focusing on building rather than predicting the future is the key to success. If you LOVED this episode, you'll also love the conversation we had with Daniel Rosen Jacobson, Co-Founder & Co-CEO of Elysian Aircraft, who discusses the startup's unique approach to electric aviation.

Aviation accounts for around 2-3% of global emissions, and is showing no sign of decreasing. There has been a lot of focus on replacement fuels, but no real paradigm shift in the industry. Anders Forslund has a plan to change that. Anders is the CEO of Heart Aerospace, the Swedish airplane developers who've recently established an R&D facility in California to develop their 30 seater hybrid-electric plane. Later this year, their all-electric prototype will take to the skies in its first test flight. While there are a number of companies innovating in the aerospace sector, including Joby Aviation, featured in Episode 156 of Cleaning Up, Heart is targeting larger planes and longer routes. They already have orders to buy hundreds of planes, most notably from United Airlines, and have received early investment from Bill Gates' Breakthrough Energy Ventures. This episode was recorded at the Heart Aerospace facilities in El Sugundo, Los Angeles. Leadership Circle:Cleaning Up is supported by the Leadership Circle, and its founding members: Actis, Alcazar Energy, EcoPragma Capital, EDP of Portugal, Eurelectric, the Gilardini Foundation, KKR, National Grid, Octopus Energy, Quadrature Climate Foundation, SDCL and Wärtsilä. Tim Forslund works on the circular economy at the Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra. As a key part of his work at Sitra, Tim has analysed how circular economy strategies can help tackle biodiversity loss, including through the circular bioeconomy. We'll be talking about Sitra's latest handbook for businesses, CIRCULAR SOLUTIONS FOR NATURE, which helps companies aiming to integrate circular business models into their operations so they can address biodiversity loss. Sitra's handbook includes a primer on the interconnections between circularity and nature, and sets out a three-step approach for action: 1. identifying critical biodiversity impacts in the value chain; 2. using circular solutions to tackle these impacts; 3. designing the circular transformation journey. Sitra is a public fund, think tank and future house. The circular economy has been a central part of Sitra's work for more than 10 years. In 2016, it led the work for the world's first national circular economy roadmap, and in 2017, it started the World Circular Economy Forum. CIRCULAR SOLUTIONS FOR NATURE is the third of Sitra's handbooks for business, following on from its publications on technology and the chemical industry.

As you've seen, Season 3 is dedicated to my father, Mike Jacox, who passed away late in 2021. I Love and miss you, Dad. Thank you, #CatchSitkaSportFishing and #ACMEHomes, for your continued support!!!Today, we sat down with John Forslund, the primary play-by-play announcer for the Seattle Kraken, but has also done national games for ESPN, NHL Versus, TNT, and NBC Sports. For over 30 years, John has been calling hockey games professionally, but his love of the game from the announcer's perspective started much younger. John grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts, and decided early on that he wanted to be a hockey play-by-play announcer. “I started doing the games off the television from age 12 to 17,” he says. “My dad was my color man. He and his dad would turn the sound down, and they would do any game that came on. His father's friends would come over and watch the Bruins play at night, and little Johnny would sit on the floor and call the game. Today, we learn about John, the dad who is the father to three young adults and the husband to Natalie who he loves dearly. We also will hear about how he lost his best friend, his father, in 1985 while giving him CPR. John's parents were alike but different; they were positive, but they pushed him. John is the ultimate professional at his craft and puts a lot of onus on practice and being prepared, lessons that he will teach his own children. By working hard, he always learned that you will get something back. Additionally, he taught his kids the simplistic advice of always treating others how they want to be treated. To learn more about John, you can follow him on Twitter at @johnForslund. You also can catch all of his great work on Root Sports, where he is one of the best announcers I've ever listened to!!!Catch Sitka Sport Fishing At Catch Sitka, Issam and team provide an amazing fishing experience with Halibut, Salmon and more!Established in 2006, Acme Homes WA One of the most value-based home builders in the state of Washington!
