He talked about how often he talks golf and why to his general sports audience and the stories he needs to sell his passion for it. Nobilo also weighed in on the ups and downs to McIlroy's win at Augusta and talked about what is prime age now in the professional game and how we got there.

Thank you for coming back for Part 2 of Season 12, Episode 19, a special Masters preview edition. In this segment, we continue our Masters preview with two guys who competed in 8 Masters tournaments starting with one of the finest golf analysts in the history of broadcasting and a 14-time winner around the world, Frank Nobilo. Frank will be on the CBS Sports broadcast team this weekend, providing commentary on four key holes. He's competed in The Masters four times himself, with a standout 4th-place finish in 1996. We dive into how he approached playing Augusta National, especially the challenges of navigating Amen Corner. Frank also shares some great insights into the tournament's history, and the patience required to succeed at Augusta. Plus, like my other guests this week, he offers his predictions for who will be atop the leaderboard on Sunday—and throws in an intriguing dark horse to watch. Then we wrap things up with two-time PGA Tour winner John Inman. John and his brother Joe both played in The Masters multiple times, and John tells a hilarious story about Joe's suggestion to drop a ball into Rae's Creek while crossing the Hogan Bridge—and the surprising reason behind it. We also hear about John's experience staying in the Crow's Nest as an amateur, what it was like staying on-site during tournament week, and the time Tom Watson caught him and a fellow amateur watching a movie in the Champions Locker Room. John gives his perspective on the tricky Par 3 fourth hole and the always-demanding 12th. He's a fantastic storyteller, and I think you'll really enjoy our conversation. There's a ton of great stuff in store for you this week on Next on the Tee. Thank you for being here and pressing play.

A huge week in golf, plenty of great things to discuss, and some sad news with the passing of Chi-Chi Rodríguez, a true legend of the game. Nick and Mark chat about his wonderful legacy, and we hear where the 'sword dance' came from, a great story. To the Olympics. We loved it. And whilst Nick and Mark have mixed feelings about golf in the Olympics, the gold medal win from Lydia Ko was undeniably special. We chat about Lydia and the win, and how Hannah Green nearly was in play for a bronze. Is the format right for the Olympics? Nick and Mark think it isn't and discuss. And if golf is in the Olympics, why is it not in the Paralympics? We all think it should be. And we discuss Raygun. Oh dear.Nick has some stats that he has read in Australian Golf Digest, they're stats from the 'average' player on tour and are fascinating. Mark starts banging on about rakes again. We decide to settle once and for all whether we should do Mark's idea of a bonus pod on rakes with a poll. Fingers crossed you vote no. After the turn, Nick gets in the rake mood and tells a story about rakes.Top 5 today from Nick and inspired by Lydia Ko, the Top 5 New Zealand golfers of all time. Leads to a very funny story from Mark about Frank Nobilo. We call a member of the pod Wolfpack, Fox, who has a great story to share with Nick and Mark - it's a cracker. Then Fox goes and ruins it by complimenting Mark on his recent jokes. Come on Fox, you're better than that.A big PING global results from Nick, plenty of feedback this week, and a cracking 'Lydia Ko' inspired masterclass from Mark.We end the show talking about a charity golf day in Grafton, raising money for 'Our Kids' who support local hospitals in the region. In Part 2 of this week's show, I'm joined by 1983 PGA Champion and 2-time Players Champion Hal Sutton and former PGA Tour Player who is now one of the all-time great Golf Analysts, Frank Nobilo. Hal has designed a new course outside of Houston, Texas called Darmor. It is sure to be named the Top New Private Course of 2024/2025. We start off getting an update on how it's progressing. I then get Hal's thoughts on Scottie Scheffler's win in The Masters and his impressive play in the extremely windy conditions in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. He also shares his thoughts on what he saw from Ludvig Aberg playing in his first major plus Tiger's performance as well. We then look ahead to the PGA Championship at Valhalla and a look back at Hal's win in the PGA Championship in 1983. Hal talks about having his idol, Jack Nicklaus, make a charge in the final round and what it was like having Jack waiting for him on 18 as Hal closed out that victory. Frank Nobilo was a part of the CBS broadcast team for The Masters. We talk about why Augusta National always brings out the best in past champions. He shares his insights on the play of Sscheffler, Aberg, and Tiger. Then I get Frank's thoughts on why golf's ratings are down 20+% this year. We conclude by looking back at the 1994 US Open at Oakmont. Frank was in the field that year and in the press room when Arnold Palmer finished his final US Open round. Frank talks about the emotional scene of watching Mr. Palmer address the press and his fans.

We get into those questions and much more with my guests: Hall of Fame Instructor Jim McLean, former Tour Player and all-time great Analyst Frank Nobilo, the Starter at 23 US Opens Ron Read, and PGA Tour Advance Rules Official Stephen Cox. Jim McLean has been inducted into 4 Hall of Fames. His list of awards and accolades as an Instructor are too numerous to list. I get Jim's thoughts on how we can build confidence in ourselves and our game's, how to raise our play to tournament level, and the one thing we can do today to lower our scores this weekend. Frank Nobilo won 14 times around the world, he finished in the Top 10 of all 4 majors, and is now an all-time great Analyst. We discuss why PGA Tour players are overpaid, what could happen if the PIF/PGA Tour partnership doesn't go through plus, we go back to his T4 finish in the 1994 US Open at Oakmont, and what it was like being on the course at Augusta National as Greg Norman was collapsing in 1996. Ron Reed worked for the USGA for over two decades and was the Starter at the US Open from 1986 to 2010. We hear his memories of announcing Arnold Palmer in Arnie's final US Open at Oakmont in 1994, who Ron thought was the most nervous player he ever saw standing on the first tee (his answer will surprise you), being there for Payne Stewart's triumph in 1999 and Phil's heartbreak in 2006. You'll also hear the heartwarming story of presenting Tom Watson's caddie Bruce Edwards with the flag from the 17th green from the 1982 US Open. We also get the story of the beaver who halted the 1990 US Amateur Public Links tournament. Follow Ron on Twitter @golfdinosaurrr and get his book, Starting the US Open, Shinnecock to Pebble Beach online at www.ronread.com or on Amazon. Stephen Cox has been a PGA Tour Rules Official since 1997. We hear about some of the unpopular rulings he's had to give out over the years and the players who didn't agree with him. We learn about the job the Rules Officials do which goes way beyond riding around in a golf cart handing out penalties. They are responsible for course setup and playing conditions and sometimes they are working on those things a year in advance of the tournament. We also discuss the rule he thinks the USGA & R&A need to take another look at. You can follow Stephen and his peers plus send them your rules questions on Twitter @pgatourrules.

It's whiparound Wednesday, and Andy is confronting the possibility that he might have made a mistake adding a second dog to the house. Brendan begins with the Netflix Cup, an assault on the senses in a place that excels at that, Las Vegas. What was that? Who was it for? Was it good at all? They react as they watch and the Cup drags on. Then they bounce around on all manner of golf tidbits, from disputing a 100-hole “hike” at a par-3 course, the Tour's absurd new pace of play policy which introduces a new acronym, Ale Tosti going to Japan, Atlanta Drive's full roster, and Mike Block making another ace with the cameras rolling. There's also ample time given to Frank Nobilo's comments that “golf is in a weird space” right now with the amount of money given to a pro sport that is "outrated by volleyball." It is out of whack, but are we too far gone and will it course correct. They close with a schedule for the week and some deep thoughts about the mis-numbering of birthdays.

World No 635 Kiwi Ben Campbell birdied the final two holes to edge major winner Cam Smith and claim the US$2 million ($1.7m) Hong Kong Open overnight. Campbell drained a 15ft birdie putt on the 18th hole to top playing partners Smith and Thailand's Phachara Khongwatmai who earlier caused a bizarre 20-minute delay. Campbell had not led at any stage of the tournament until his last putt to finish at 19 under par and beat Smith by one and Phacahara by two. For Campbell, who also birdied the 17th, it was his maiden win on the Asian Tour with his only other win in the professional game coming at the New Zealand PGA Championship in 2018. He won US$360,000. “It's good to finally get the monkey off the back and yeah, sort of just battling away all day,” said Campbell. “Sort of didn't get off to the greatest of starts and swing wasn't feeling that great. Sort of went back to a few close losses and wrote a few notes down in my yardage book last night, and really used them on those last four or five holes. “It was getting a bit tight in the swing and just from those past experiences managed to, I think, you know, put a couple of nice swings coming down the stretch which really helped.” The victory is also just reward for a player who has struggled with injuries and missed six months last year due to a back issue that required surgery. “Even probably four months ago I was sort of battling with the body. I've had quite a few operations, and bulged discs in the back and things like that, so had to change the swing quite a bit, especially in the last two or three years. So yeah, great to put that behind me now and the monkey's off the back which is good.” The most recent Kiwi winner of the Hong Kong Open was Frank Nobilo in 1997, while the only other was Walter Godfrey in 1972. Smith and Phachara had started the day sharing the lead with Campbell one back. Phachara looked to be heading for the win when he birdied three in a row from 11 and led by one from Smith and two from Campbell with three to go. However, drama unfolded on the par-four 16th when he hooked his tee into the trees. He chose to try to hit his ball back into play from a treacherous lie but failed to get it out before just being able to advance his ball to the edge of the fairway with the next. Smith and Campbell appeared visibly irritated by Khongwatmai's actions, which led to a 20-minute delay. “He can't stand all over this, can he?” Campbell was heard saying to officials. Phachara ended up making a costly double. He also birdied the next hole before his disappointing finish on 18. “Today my putting was not so good like the last three days, but I played well since the beginning until the 16th hole,” said Phachara. “I was in a very difficult situation at that moment that I couldn't do anything. Also, there were broken trees, which was an obstacle, so I couldn't step backwards to drop the ball. I had to keep trying to hit it. However, I'm satisfied with my overall performance that I can make under par for today.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

He's best known by an entire generation for his TV commentary, but Frank Nobilo was a formidable player in his day. Struck down by injury long before his prime, the New Zealander has built a second — and almost as impressive — career in the commentary booth. A deep thinker with a naturally analytical mind, Nobilo gives great insight into every facet of the game in this candid and detailed chat with John Huggan. From his early days on the European Tour to his relationship with former Golf Channel colleague Brandel Chamblee, Nobilo is equal parts forthright and reflective about the game he clearly still loves.
